I first noticed Furburt through the forum management tools. When people start posting very often, very quickly, it sends me an alert ... and Furburt triggered it. The alert is usually triggered by a spammer or a troll, but it turns out that he was just seriously skilled at posting feverishly. The sheer number of posts, visibility, and amount of fans in this community made Furburt an ideal candidate for the Community Member Spotlight!

Here is a quick Q & A to learn more about this member of our community[1]! To find out more or to become his friend, visit his Profile here:

What first brought you to The Escapist?

A magical unicorn came into my room on that fateful May 13th, and pointed towards my computer, which magically loaded up The Escapist ... It was then, I knew my true calling.

Nah, it was Zero Punctuation. Me mate Zak showed it to me, I lurked the forums for a bit, saw that it wasn't like my previous forum experience (Erm ... Youtube and 4chan ... Yeah ... ) and joined up.

And I never regretted it!

What is your favorite thing about The Escapist?

It's the only internet site where I've ever met a friend, a true friend that I could hold on the same level as a real life one.

Plus, I get to ramble on about things I know nothing about without feeling ashamed!

If The Escapist suddenly disappeared, what is the first thing you would do?

Find Virgil's home number, and constantly nag him to get it working.[2]

Or, alternatively, find another forum and concoct some elaborate script that makes all the members of there have the member names of here!

Why yes, I am obsessive.

A zombie is attacking you and you were caught off-guard. You are startled, start running and notice a bag of marshmallows. What do you do?

Goddamn zombies, pretending they're fictional to fool me ...

Well, I'd get the marshmallows, and use the gelatin quickly harvested from them to trap the zombie!

I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

What is your favorite movie and why?

It constantly switches between Aliens and Evil Dead 2. At the moment, it's Aliens.

I just find it to be an almost perfect movie. It's a great action film, a great sci-fi, and a great body-horror film. It's all my favorite genre's rolled up into one!

Plus, it's quote-tastic (Damn you spellchecker, that is a word! I demand it!), it's superbly well directed by James Cameron, and it's got some of the most tense scenes ever made.

And it's got Vasquez. Oh, Vasquez.

What is your favorite type of music, band, and how did you first discover it/them?

My favorite type of music covers a few spectrums. My general preferred stuff is stoner metal/rock (heavy, groovy, bands like Electric Wizard, Kyuss or Sleep), certain types of Industrial (Godflesh, Einsturzende Neubaten, Foetus) and Noise Rock (Big Black, Swans, Gang Of Four).

I'm getting too into this.

Anyway, out of those bands, my favorite is probably Godflesh, but my first, and the most significant, was probably Big Black. Basically, before I discovered good old Big Black, I was basically listening to any old indie stuff off the charts. Razorlight, Arctic Monkeys, that sort of thing. Not because I liked it, but because it was cool and I wanted to be cool and all that kind of crap.
However, one day I was shown the song Precious Thing by Big Black, and it just ... blew my mind. I was free!

What do you do for a living? Do you find it interesting?

I smuggle llamas over the Andes. Risky business, but the pay's good.

Or in the real world, I'm in education! I'm currently doing my end of school exams, which are going okay, and soon I'll be a college student! Assuming I pass.

What I'm going to do after that, I don't know. Suggestions?

If you could change one thing about The Escapist, what would it be?

Well, not so much about the site itself, but there are some members of the community ... I don't know, it seems like there's a few people, and only a few, mind, who make it their mission to insult and talk down to people constantly, and I got a lot of that in secondary school (high school for you folks cross the Atlantic), so it makes me a bit angry.

Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Do you like bacon?

I don't actually eat meat, so ... yeah.

I did taste bacon a few times. Can't say I liked it much. Then again, I've tried most meat types. Urgh.

... Is that an angry mob I hear?

If someone gave you a million US Dollars, tax free, and you were required to spend it instead of investing, what would you spend it on?

Many thanks to Furburt for letting me shine the spotlight on him!

[3] Wait, what? You are going to buy a million US dollars worth of bacon even though you don't eat meat? Perhaps it is a trick, or a plan to do something with the bacon to make it worse for bacon lovers? My mind is blown, perhaps someone else can tell me Furburt's reasoning.
