Do you like videogames? Fancy yourself a writer? Have an interest in heavy metal, martial arts or gourmet cooking? Then have we got an opportunity for you ...

Every six months, The Escapist's editors take part in a time-honored ritual: We lock ourselves in a conference room with only a whiteboard, a couple bottles of scotch and our ideas of what makes a great issue of The Escapist's weekly magazine. Insults are hurled, punches thrown and tears shed until finally, days later, we emerge with the document that will guide The Escapist into another quarter of journalistic excellence: our latest editorial calendar.

Of course, this calendar is just the blueprint - it's up to our stable of talented, witty and generally good-looking contributors to provide the raw materials. And thankfully, there's always room for that stable to grow. Even if you've never been published before, it's easy to contribute to The Escapist. Just follow these five easy steps:

  1. Take a look at the latest editorial calendar, which you can find here. Make note of any upcoming topics that pique your interest.
  2. Submit a 100-to-300-word pitch (or, if you're feeling inspired, multiple pitches) to editor@escapistmag.com. The Escapist responds to all queries.
  3. Wait.
  4. Wait a little longer.
  5. You've got mail! If we liked your pitch, we'll give you a word count and a due date. If we liked your general idea but were iffy on the details, we may ask you to refine your focus. And if we didn't like your pitch - well, there's always the next issue.

We've just posted our first editorial calendar of 2010 for your consumption, digestion and creative excretion, so there's no better time to submit a pitch, especially if you're interested in espionage (Issue 241, "The Spy Who Fragged Me"), cheating (Issue 243, "Meant to be Broken?") or videogame storytelling (Issue 236, "Once Upon a Time"). So what are you waiting for? Send us your ideas, and make the leap from "person who thinks a lot about videogames" to "person who thinks a lot about videogames ... professionally."
