James was a smart, talented and loving man. He will be missed.

I am certainly not the first would-be wit to compare the internet to the Wild West, and I am under no illusion that I will be the last. I will, however, continue to perpetrate this analogy because the comparison is so apt as to seem ready-made.

Each week we ask a question of our staff and featured writers to learn a little bit about them and gain some insight into where they are coming from.

This week's question is:

Word association time. In one word, give me your impression of Microsoft.

Numerous Christian groups have taken issue to some of the themes in Left Behind, notably the way the lines between Good and Evil are drawn.

What's most interesting, though, is the way Left Behind Games CEO Troy Lyndon chose to respond to charges that the game misinterprets scripture.

Look at the credits for your current favorite game. Chances are you'll see a lot of programmers on that list, and they aren't just hired to rearrange things. The technology for most games (from the minutia of programming the game enemies' Artificial Intelligence, to the foundation of how each pixel of art is displayed) is built entirely from the ground up; often a years-long process. If you think this is wasteful and unnecessary, you're not alone, but just try and convince designers that they're wasting their time (and yours) reinventing the wheel with each and every game. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Last week, "just hours before" the launch of the PS3 (according to a news report). Two armed men walked into a Gamestop store and stole four Ps3s and four Xbox 360s. The employees of the store described the two men as wearing hoods, and said that one was Hispanic, the other "dark skinned."

Console launch years are the best and the worst of times for being a game writer. On the one hand, you've got a veritable cornucopia of material from which to work. On the other, it's all mainly hyperbolic speculation and hysterical meandering perpetuated by petulant children clamoring for The Shiny.

Hang on. I'm going to tell you how I really feel.

In one of those favorable twists of fate, I happened to be doing a Q&A with Stardock about their public spat with StarForce as Allen Varney was writing Starforce Must Die.

I'm certain there's something going on here. Who else prides themselves on their banality, perfecting it even - down to a science? That's right, the CIA. And now, apparently, they've discovered a way to make us forget we've even seen them.

Each week we ask a question of our staff and featured writers to learn a little bit about them and gain some insight into where they are coming from.

This week's question is:

Let's look beyond game journalism for a minute. In recent months, Bob Woodward, one of the men who uncovered Nixon's involvement in the Watergate scandal, has been accused of getting starry-eyed after being given direct access to President Bush and his administration. Critics say the first two books he published on the Bush administration read more like Woodward didn't attempt to dig beyond the administration's rhetoric, simply taking their word at face value. What's your opinion on the criticism, and do you think Woodward has lost a step?

Amidst the numerous Wii sales on eBay, someone's selling the image of the Wii logo in a pancake.

So, to recount: Abraham Lincoln water stain, the Virgin Mary in Toast and now the Wii in Bisquick.

Also, in case you were wondering, the Wii is moving for around $280-350 plus shipping a day after its North American release. What a difference 600,000 extra consoles makes.

Whether you wanted to play the PS3 or not, if you wanted one this Friday, you more than likely had to give up your Wednesday and Thursday to stand in line, just like everyone else.

Well, maybe not everyone else.

I spoke with a gentleman named Charlie who picked up two PS3s by working a contact on the inside of a major gaming retailer.

In case you haven't noticed, there are a couple of new game consoles shipping this week.

Rumors of Ziff Davis's reorganization efforts have apparently not been exaggerated. If you managed to grab a copy of Official Playstation Magazine this month (for the demo disc of Guitar Hero II), hang onto it; it may become collectible.
