Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb came from the 1958 novel Red Alert by Peter George. The book is a much more somber tale of the impending nuclear war, but Stanley Kubrick couldn't write it without turning it into an absurd comedy. So instead of combating the idea he embraced it and worked with professional absurdist Terry Southern to craft the script in all of it's absurd glory.
