Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 26 Sep 2007 | No, I completely forgot about Cowboy Bebop OMG! *points to avi image sarcastically* There are plenty better anime out there, but GITS, Cowboy and Trigun are great gateway drugs...I mean...shows into the wider range of anime besides what fucking 4Kids and Shonen Jump put out. Now go pick up a copy of Genshiken [comedy], Gankutsuou or Sai Kano [sci-fi action drama {+Romance for SaiKano}], Haibane [fantasy drama ], or King of Bandits Jing or Excel Saga [Action comedy]. And by pick up a copy I mean "Check out on Youtube". EDIT: And TeaParty, you can't really blame Akira for being like that. It's a feature film over a ton of books made in the EIGHTIES! For a retro anime movie, it's pretty good. Still, you are totally right, the books are obviously better than the movie, like in most cases. Oh, and if you can't get into anything outside of the CB realm, then watch Samurai Champloo and GunXSword. [GunXSword hasn't been translated yet, but there are a TON of great fansubs out there for it.] |

One day i'll get round to watching all the series. I Loooove Ghost in the Shell in all its incarnations. The oshii films are abit more philosophical than the series. Noticed some of the grievances people have about the series, it not being accessible if you only watch 1 or 2 episodes. In that case watch all of it!! The laughing man story of the first series is amazing as you see everything unravel. One i havent seen anyone mention is Ergo Proxy. It can be abit unevenly paced and confusing but its a good watch none-the-less. And an IG productions short everyone should watch when drunk is Dead Leaves! |

It had everything; awesome art, deep characters, action, the best music ever. And it never took itself too seriously. |

I think the reason why Champloo isn't so popular is that the english cast are soooooo crap. I mean I've watched the whole series in both english and japanese with subs and I found the english voice actors terrible. Mugen and Jin were barely distinguishable and Fuu just sounded weird. |

It plays out like a TV show (always the same ending, stay tuned for next week), every episode is a homage to a different musical genre and to top it off, it's animated. It has a somewhat shaky story and not all of its characters are developed enough (I always felt that Faye in particular was tacked on), but as an experiment in style and combining different types of media into one, it has no equal. |

What else, oh right, anyone here watched Azumanga Daioh? Addictive surrealist cotton candy if ever there was one :3 |

Terrible voice actors? 'Tis not so sir! As far as I know, Mugen was voiced by the one and only Steven Blum; the same talent that voiced Spike Spiegel. Personally, I was happy with the voice acting, or at the very least, I've seen much worse. |

Yup, Mr.Kimura. He luckily doesn't get too much screen time, but when he is on, he's freaking hilarious xD |

Cowboy Bebop is indeed a grand show. I'm also a big Ghost in the Shell fan, although it doesn't quite hold up to the original manga, in my opinion. Same with Akira... Do yourself a favor and read all six volumes of Akira. It's simply fantastic.
I suppose I need to watch more of the recommended anime shows out there. However, I did happen to watch all six episodes of FLCL, which I found to be amazing. It's one of those shows that you either love, or absolutely hate, tragically, so I've had difficulty introducing my friends to it... *sigh*
