Rammstein is one of the most successful bands from Europe in America in the last couple year. User was banned for: Zero Punctuation: Mailbag Showdown. (Permanent) |

Basshunter is known by almost 90% of all the swedes cause all the stupid teenagers listen to him, its not nerd tech, its just another example of crappy techno/trance with absolutey NO meaning, he fucking sucks, and he is an embarrasment to every true gamer |

Most of them are quite known over here, but I don't quit on a band simply because they become known. Stupid crap about "selling out".... So long |

If you have ever seen little rock of horrors on the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy you have heard Voltaire's song BRAINS! it seems however that most people I meet have never heard of him. http://www.myspace.com/voltairenyc. his music is gothic folk, and I suggest you listen to when you're evil and zombie prostitute, 2 personal favorites of mine. |
Muckraker Posts: 230 Joined: 8 Nov 2007 | Basshunter? ARGH! Now I've got those songs in my head again. That's main stream in Holland. Same goes for Rammstein, Nightwish, Epica, Gathering, Maximo Park and a number of others mentioned here. Want vague? Ok, on to less vague but still rather obscure (some old stuff in here too): Edit: |

Copy Clerk Posts: 83 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | Alright, I can almost guarantee none of you have heard of Steel Train but, if you have, you're my new best friend. My friend is obsessed with Lost Prophets. They're far from unknown in the UK to my knowledge (they're Welsh), but only my friend and everyone he's tried unsuccessfully to turn onto them (myself included) has heard of them here. Now, I know this band is pretty big in the UK, and even some people in the US have heard of them, but I'm the only one in my home town who's heard of Oasis. On this last one, I'm hoping for a lot of "are you kidding me, they aren't unkown!" because I know they're big, but no-one here's heard of them. |
Muckraker Posts: 230 Joined: 8 Nov 2007 | orannis62: You know I had the same thing with King Crimson for the longest time, nobody seemed to know them. But the last few years more and more people pop up who start humming the 21st century schizoid man when I bring Crimso up. I'm also a fan of forgotten groups like Crimso, A-Ha (they're still active, Analogue is a great album), Sinaed 'O Connor (who stopped three times so nobody believes her anymore, she could do with some more raw work again), Sting (also still active), Dolores 'O Riordan (singer of the Cranberries gone solo), Alan Parsons (get that kid of yours out of the studio and get on with it!), etc. Chech: |

I know all these bands just about and they are all pretty popular on the indie scene in Melbourne Oh and I Killed The Prom Queen guy they are the second most popular hardcore band i know next to Parkway Drive in Australia.
Hey someone else knows him, and yea i only know because i am a bass player. Amazing skill but i don't really like his bass tone. I guess Victor Wooten would fit like that as well only known by bass players. |

I believe you speak of a band called Focus. The name of the song is Hocus Pocus. It threw me off for a while too. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpV5InLw52U Also: Procol Harem-psych-ish pop |

Any example of songs where that can be heard very clearly, and checked some songs of them sme time ago and I just didn't seem to notice it at all. Anyway, I consider myself to know very little of music, and I recognize half of the things written here. This kind of thread is where I usually mention They Might Be Giants and Jonathan Coulton, but I assume they are less unknown on this forum. So, I'll try to mention something that hopefully is less known. Anamanaguchi, they use some NES sound chip or something together with more usual instruments, I like it. Then there's 011881, and they are I don't know what, it's slow and seems simple, but I like it. |
Paperboy Posts: 12 Joined: 23 Jul 2008 | Yeah Yeah Yeahs? I freaking LOVE them! Pin is still the best song! -The Knife (weird synthy/indy/random brilliance!) I'm sure I can list more, but Im tired! *I'm not entirely sure on how well know these are in other countries, Plan B was quite popular in the UK but I think that's as far as it goes and I've only ever seen Chromeo on MTV2s 120 Minutes. |

Paperboy Posts: 27 Joined: 2 Jul 2008 | Anyone here know about Mandragora Scream? They're a Nuclear Blast artist from Italy. If someone's mentioned them already, I give you all permission to slap me. Hey, guys...please don't hate on Nightwish. They're one of my fave bands. And they're not as unheard of as some people think. I managed to turn my gf onto them and Within Temptation. She likes the latter best cuz they're Dutch, and so is she...in descent, anyway. I also agree about Sonata Arctica and Edguy being Power Metal. In addition, I loved Dragonforce before they were in Guitar Hero and everyone and their dog claimed to like them. Just thought I'd say that. |

What kind of music (or artists) you listen to? Cause I like to listen to a lot of weird stuff too, experimental stuff, but none of that unrecognizable noise; rythmyc and groovy experimental music is what I mean (The Residents, Faust, Raymond Scott, The Psychic Paramount, etc.). I also LOVE The Fall (they're not so unknown cause thay have a big fanbase that have been following them throughout their 30 year carrer) and I'm sure you've heard of Public Image Limited (Second Edition Is great, cool bass lines and drum beats, covered in a thick goo of sonic experimentation)...
