All that happens to me is my nose starts to run when I'm tired and in extreme cases the edges of my field of vision get darker. My head gets a bit swimmy and if I've taken painkillers within the last 6 hours (and I usually have) then I get a really strange rush from them, even though there should be no real effect left.

Oh, and I fidget, ache a lot and can't bring myself to talk.

surfaces start to feel more and more soft and inviting the longer I stay awake.

As someone who has managed to stay awake for 63 hours (record time. Trying to beat it) I know what its like to stay up, TOO, long.

For instance;

When I stayed up for said 63 hours, I managed to stay completely energetic, And I had become to that of a God at gaming, Yet I still could not beat my friend at SSBM. Damn him. and while in town with friends, They were all different, I saw the hair different, the facial expressions different, to the point of while I was on some swings in the park, I thought, that there was a pick-up item in mid air, and proceeded to jump, infront of all my friends, for said item, only to land 8 foot from height into my face and split my lip and cause my nose to bleed.

Hallucinations Are not at all fun. I've seen little blue men attacking my feet while I try to finally get some sleep. I've seen pink.. things.. Is the only thing they can be described as. And as I have drawn a large anime male on my wall, I saw it as moving, something I deemed never to believe as true again. Sure, staying awake for 63 hours was fun in the long run. But I became paranoid to the point I broke 3 of my friends fingers when he patted me on the shoulder, and Also stabbed a knife into my pillow thinking something was hiding under it.

I am naturally a shakey person, but when staying up, I find busying myself, say with drawing, running, excersizing helps, but afterwards, my hands shake like that of a vibrating iPod accesory that is un-needed yet millions have been bought.

Well at first I start making stupid decisions, but get much better at activities requiring fast reflexes(i.e. Racing or fps games). Also I get euphoric when tired. Then I get really hyperactive and can't fall asleep, even if I try to. Also when sleeping after a long game session I have really vivid dreams revolving around that game and playing it. And at one time, when I was really, really tired I started hearing voices, not saying anything I could understand, just the voices of some people I know babbling nonsense. I got really freaked that time.

Generally if you go without sleep for constant long periods you will develop illnesses later in life. For example narcolepsy which gives you the inability to sleep properly. Anyway I'll leave a wikipeadia page for you guys to read... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_disorder ...

Funnily enough, this month's PC Gamer (UK) has an article about this. They had a staff member try and stay up for 48 hours. He didn't make it all the way through and felt wretched towards the end.

Apparently staying up for 17 hours is scientifically proven to be equivalent to 1 unit of alcohol. Do the maths for longer.

I just get tetchy and feel bad until I get sleep.

My distance perception goes screwy, and everything goes faster. Things feel weird, too. Once, after a particularly long time without sleep, I saw green triangles cascading down my eyes, and heard a painfully loud beep. Freaked me out.

I start getting all the symptoms of a common cold. Nose runs, headache, cough, etc. And the longer I go without sleep, the worse it gets. Also, cold medicine has no effect on it whatsoever.

its funny. every time i do it while on an MMO, for an example. when i was playing FF11 and i was up for 37 hours straight. near the end before i passed out on my keyboard (during a group) i kept on thinking my guy was riding a bicycle and was a clown. ahah

I begin to get paranoid, see and talk to people who are not there. become violent to said people. see hand prints and faces start to press out of the computer screen. see the patterns on the wall start to move and rearrange. see monsters peeking out of the closet which no longer has a door because i shot it to kill said monster(side note my friends have not stayed over since). i also start to laugh at things that i never would have before. become insanely hungry and thirsty. and finally do a complete sweep of my house before saying i need to go to bed before i start shooting things again.

You know that feeling when you are on an elevator and it just starts or stops? That little "whoops!" feeling? I feel like that continuously until I get some sleep. I also start dreaming while I'm awake. Apparently the dreams are perfectly happy to kick in whether my eyes are shut or not. I also get very noticeable muscle spasms which my friends find very amusing.

I do the elevator thing EVERY TIME I GO TO SLEEP. Not even after a long period of staying up. Just me, drifting off to sleep, then my body somehow thinking my bed's not there. My body's so used to it, I don't even jerk myself out of it. lol

I generally don't stay up for days at a time. If I get too tired, I go to bed. Or crash on a couch, or the floor... for someone who's such a light sleeper that she wakes up when someone leaves or enters the room, I can sleep pretty much anywhere as long as I have a blanket. Or a coat. Or a towel.... SOMETHING over me. lol If I stay up too late my allergies will kick in and my asthma will get worse because all of my meds are wearing off.

I enter a hightened level of gaming when i dont have enough sleep (i dont remember much after but my friends said they were wearing there ass's for hats by the time i went to sleep.) and i can prove this because awile ago my friend brought a game that i had never played before over to my house and he had already beten so about 3h later at 4A.M. we stoped playing because it was just a slaughter instead of a duel.

also i think my extra skill comes from paranoia I think everyone is trying to kill me (and in the games i play they are) so i am more aleart.

I try and watch DVD commentaries.

If I've seen 'em once, they cease to interest me, so I tend to nod off.

Don't help if you're with a boring cunt with a million & one topics.

If I get any less than 8 hours of sleep a night, well, how to put this nicely? I'm called cold and irate when I get enough sleep...

If I dont sleep in a day or so, I get really pissy and most of the world would be wise to back away...slowly. If i stay up longer, then normally if I stop moving, I'll fall asleep on my feet. I guess it's funny when I do that, because if someone taps me on the shoulder to see if I'm still alive, I'll start to keel over and wake up stumbling. That's my cue to go to bed and stay there for 12 hours or more.

When i go for long periods without sleep (59 hours is my record), i become very paranoid and see things which arn't there. Also i can hear a high pitched noise if my TV is on but only when im tired.

When i stayed awake fo 59 hours it was during a War Game, (paintballing, hiking and camping) me and my friend stayed awake for the entire weekend with Energy drinks, Energy boosting gel stuff and Adrenalin tablets which my dad gave us. That was insane we won but were unable to stand for the photo of the winners with the prize, two very expensive paintball guns.

I become tired, obviously.

But if I'm writing something, my style becomes more assertive and kind of "show-offish" so to speak. I come up with bizarre metaphors and similes. I wake up the next morning rereading my essay and I say "Damn, what was I trying to do with that metaphor?'This fallen Humpty Dumpty'? Shit." Nonetheless I received a B+ for that essay due to punctuation errors. I guess staying up late opens me up a bit to my more creative side and I'm more willing to take a few more risks.

i stay up all night watching movies sometimes on weekends and then fall asleep the next day at the computer or TV
if its more than 24 hours without sleep for me i start to loose control of my mind... it gets harder to stay focused on stuff and you close your eyes for "5 mins" and wake up after 5 hours without knowing
i have been told if you dont dream you go crazy after 5 days or something (including the dreams that you dont remember)

I suffered from serious insomnia when I was a teenager and still do occasionally. However, my time of service in the army cured me from the worst of it. I remember when we were marching through the woods, in the winter, from sundown till sunrise, with only a few hours of sleep during the entire week previously, I had some nice hallucinations. When we stopped for a few minutes to wait for road to clear or something, I would fall asleep standing up and then wake up just in time to stop myself from falling down face first. I guess the hallucinations were due to my subconscious intruding on my conscious mind, because I did not get the usual dose of unconsciousness we get during sleep.

EDIT: After a year in the service, I have not had as much trouble falling asleep as before.

I went for three day without any sleep one time. That was not so bad actually, since I did not have anything really physically demanding to do at the time.

Yes the army is a decent cure for insomnia, however my sleep schedule is set to what can only be Australian time, which is odd I've never been there.

I become twitchy and I start thinking bizarre thoughts, most of which I can't remember. I also seem to feel more things, like the wind from cars or subtle differences in temperature and humidity, which I don't notice these things normally, the way I figure out if I'm uncomfortable or not is by determining if I am sweating or if my skin is getting goosebumps, or if my joints are not moving as fast as I am ordering them to. Then again my nervous system is screwy anyhow, I don't even have pressure points.

i regulrly stay up for days on end, i dont drink, dont drink coffee, or smoke or anything really except dr.pepper, my tooth rotting anti drug, normally 48 hours is a breeze. but once during a very hectic week during college finals i was up for 5 days and i swear to god that i was riding the bus home and it stopped at a ....stop next to a cemetery and i honestly "saw" grim reapers like the bad guy form the frightners weaving between the gravestones.

not done that since.

Larenxis:

Sometimes if I've been playing or watching a game for too long and it's the last thing I see before going to bed, I'll continue to see the tetris blocks falling, or the Rock Band notes coming, or the scenery going by like in racing games or what have you, when I close my eyes. It kind of sucks.

I get this all the time... particularly when I'm tired, most recently I've been playing Darkstar One, so I've been seeing spaceships shooting at me :P

When I am extremely tired (read awake for more than 30 hours) I start to get the strange feeling of not having weight, or not being properly attached to my limbs and closing my eyes makes it worse. Sometimes, with my eyes closed I feel like I'm not actually 'in my body', like my mind is a few feet from my body or something. Visual hallucinations with my eyes open are rare, but my judgement of distance gets screwed up, so things look much further away or closer than they actually are, followed by vertigo, because perspective is screwed up and the slightest movement makes it change again. That said, I've never been awake for more than 3 days in a row, so I can't say how bad it gets for me.

also everything becomes 80% funnier.

I'm really tired right now and I burst out laughing when I read that.

I become shaky and irritable, and I have little control over my emotions or thoughts, lashing out at any sign of hostility or going into a brooding state where my only thought is, "Everyone's out to get me". I also don't have a care in the world and will just say whatever's on my mind, regardless of what others think or care (but that's relatively normal for me). Basically, I become my alter-ego, Jerk Man.

Speaking of staying up late, I once stayed up for 25 hours in college weeks before I dropped out. It was the most unpleasant day of my life there; I was frustrated, woozy, depressed, and I was nearly praying to God to take my life so that I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore. I also became a loud-mouthed, stuttering, mumbling maniac. It was a hard time for me, but I somehow stuck through it.

To sum it all up, when I become tired my mind falls into a state of apathy.
