How is Shadowrun 4th? I'm tempted but the rules complexity I hear about scares me.
And how is AFMBE? Rules heavy or light? Easy to make one-shot "everyone dies"? Easy to convert to, say, aliens or mutants? Are there any aids for small town/city/mall building? |

My favorite is 'kill Mr Lucky' Who Dunnit? you did, or want to, its quite hard... because Dr Lucky is aptly named. the old boy wont go down! but, be patient and eventually you can beat your friends to beat the old man. Man, i love those games.... "the great brain heist" |

Yep. Played with my friends when we were in college. Broke into the grounds of our school and played in the woods. My friend Chris had the distinct advantage of wearing camo so he kinda won all of them. Maybe if I hadn't been fumbling around in a bush with Hellene I might have bothered more. Arh crazy days... |

Seriously though the only gaming I do is video games, other than that it's usually sports (basketball and tennis to be specific). But I haven't played cards or board games since the late 80's, you can thank Nintendo for that. |

To be honest, and I do this with any P&P game system, I dumb the rules down as much as possible so they can be understood even by the biggest noob, because finding other people to play with can be a pain. The books just basicly sit there as inspiration, that's it. I try to get them into the idea of using one's imagination to create a character, then I tell them the setting, they decide what to do, it it involves another player I might do a bit of rule enforcement but otherwise, I basicly just fudge it to try to figure out what will be the most fun for those playing. Yeah, I know, its not exactly the way it was meant to be used, but desperate times call for desperate measures, so I try to make it really, really accessible to new players - like telling an imaginary story to a child and they participate. So to answer your question, the rules are different than D&D but no more or less complex when you delve into the books. My favourite thing about the P&P is writing stories for the setting that are flexible and drawing up dungeons for crawls - like this one I designed for new players, where they basicly fall in with the wrong crowd, get dropped off at the bottom of a mine shaft almost butt naked, and then the not very nice patrons of the tavern above the mine watch how the events unfold for the unfortunate adventurer(s) through magic crystal balls of a sorts, making bets on how long they will survive. Oddly enough, there is a long forgotten secret to the mine that the evil entertainment tavern is unaware of, and should the adventurer(s) discover its secret, there is a very good chance they could not only escape the abandoned mine but go on to kick the whole evil town's ass, should they so choose and given the crap the local establishments just put them through, probably will. |

I hope you're ok with me stealing that plot idea. |

Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 25 Feb 2008 | I love playing zombie tag, a version of the classic schoolyard tag, with my friends. ... or I, y'know, read a book. edit: I loved playing 'THE FLOOR IS LAVA!' when I was a child. I used to dismantle all of the couches in the room (we have a lot of couches) and use them as bridges or stepping stones or pile them really high and see how long I could sit on top of them without them toppling over and sending me to my doom. |

I wouldn't mind at all, the devil's in the details, so in all likely hood, your version of the survival horror for some evil bastages entertainment will be completely different than mine. |

Im not just jumping on the bandwagon here DE are fast, at everything, the build quick, the move quick and they kill quick, they can put down any army in under 10 minutes if used properly, and when teamed as an auxiliary force with a Space marines or Sisters player, scourges and hellions act as the ultimate support troops, acting as sword shield and scalpel. DE will cut down an inexperienced player every time, and have the ability to compete with he big boys when an 8 player game gets protracted, i mean, Dais of destruction can dark scythe to kill any non commander infantry in the game one hit, and then with rekindle rage, do it again. also, jetbikes are the pwn in coolness as well as awesome |

I wiped my ass with my friends' faces last time I played Risk with them at like 4 AM when we ran out of steam. I'm also fair at Tic-Tac-Toe, Chess, and Checkers because I'm very fond of strategic maneuvers. |

Magic: The Gathering was huge in elementary school. A few board games - Scattergories, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, Apples to Apples, Scene It! Beer Pong, King's Cup Ball n' Cup, Hoop and Stick |

Granted, it helps when you have two tables at your disposal, which not everyone does, but if ever there were a game of pure luck*, pinball would be it. *Take it from one who knows: Geometry, physics, skill. None of these are in any way helpful in a properly built pinball machine. Luck is the only thing that matters. |

Favorite game of all time has to be Zombies! which is a table-top board game that incorporates elements of classic D & D into, of all things, Sorry. Yes, that little cutesy game with the funny colored pieces and the little tiles. I highly recommend it for a laidback saturday night with friends and mediocre chinese takeout.
