I was by far the highest there. Maybe because I was in B (yeh, my school started having graded classes since Year 8)... And I'm short-sighted. I'm 2 in my left, and 3 in my right. At this rate, I'm proably getting to about 5 or 6 before I stop. It's just gaming is so addictive. - A procrastinator |

Is it something to do with they amount of time we spend looking at a screen. I think I would play for maybe18 hours a week, depending on the amount of homework I have. |

Muckraker Posts: 256 Joined: 13 Jan 2008 | I'm far sighted, always have been since about 10-ish, long before I played video games for any amount that could be classified as heavy. At first it was for 'as you need them', but due to laziness, I now have to wear them all the time. It's been over two years since I had to update my prescription though, so it seems my eyes have gotten as bad as they'll get. For now. |

Paperboy Posts: 49 Joined: 4 Mar 2008 | Yep i wear glasses, however glasses are pretty much prevalent in my whole family even though I'm the only heavy gamer so i would guess they're unrelated. |
Paperboy Posts: 26 Joined: 25 Apr 2008 | Damn... I'm a very heavy gamer and I can barely read anything thats over 3 metres away from me. I need some glasses soon. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1847 Joined: 13 Sep 2007 | I wear glasses, used to have perfect vision though. I blame staring at the sun as a kid, and I'm going to get laser eye surgery when I'm 18. Nearsighted. |

Muckraker Posts: 322 Joined: 18 Jan 2008 | Yeah, contacts here. I have near-sightedness. Started when I was 10 or 11, I think. It's only gotten worse with the years. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 536 Joined: 22 Mar 2008 | I just wanna point this out. As it stands, the current majority is Heavy, glasses, nearsighted. I forgot. I do have glasses. Started after gaming. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 493 Joined: 27 Mar 2008 | i am almost certain computers caused my shortsightedness. The only history in my family has been long sightedness and my yes were always great until i started using computer screens a lot. I am borderline heavy/light gamer. Also it was not a gradual thing. My vision got bad fast so i am guessing the stress of screens caused this. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4093 Joined: 14 Jan 2008 | i do play alot of game and im long sighted. However i have been since birth so i dont think that games really have anything to do with it. But hay why not vote anyway. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 416 Joined: 8 Oct 2007 | I have contacts or glasses, whichever mood strikes me. light gamer I guess...not sure what makes a heavy gamer or light gamer. If you go by hours played or what not...Oh I'm also nearsighted. hehe ^_^ |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 546 Joined: 22 Dec 2007 | It's not much of a surprise that heavy gaming causes short sightedness now is it? |
Brand Manager Posts: 883 Joined: 8 Oct 2007 | I don't need to wear glasses, but since my screen is so damn small, it helps. |
Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 9 Apr 2008 | Have needed glasses since before my gaming addiction set in, and family has a history of bad eyesight, I personally blame our ancestors for all that time spent outside in the sun playing.... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1910 Joined: 18 Sep 2007 | I'd classify myself as a heavy gamer, and so far no glasses/contacts/whatever. I do switch up between PC and console, though, which does make for a bit of a change in focal lengths and that may help keep the ol' eyeballs limber. -- Steve |

You have any data to back that up? Because I wasn't a heavy gamer as a kid, and my sight has been deteriorating fairly consistently up until I turned 20 or so. The optometrist tells me my sight's stabilizing now, or at least it's not getting so bad that I need a new perscription every 2 years, like I did as kid/teenager. Oh, and I think it's safe to say I gamed as frequently, if not more, in college than I did as in middle/high school. If anything, I stare at a computer screen much more now than I did back then. I find my eye condition to be dependant on several factors, not just how much I play games in one week. You might think I took that a little too seriously, but it's thinking like this that causes people to make incorrect associations. Like video games make us all violent people, for instance. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 620 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | I've worn glasses since I was about 10, when I was spotted in a routinue primary school eye-test, although it was fairly obvious in hindsight that I had a problem with my far-vision (After all, when it takes you 3 times longer to copy stuff down from the board because your having to run up and look at it before returning to your seat, there is something wrong, heh). Anywho, I did try lense's, but after few years, decided to stop wearing them as they were uncomfortable. As for gamer, I put Heavy, although my pattern of play varies lot as it goes though stages of activity. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 5089 Joined: 23 Dec 2007 | I don't think that gaming and glasses are really co-related. Although I could be very wrong, as following posts will likely show. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 120 Joined: 2 Apr 2008 | Heavy gamer, glasses, nearsighted, although i started wearing glasses before i became an heavy gamer. I actually have been getting better. When i got my drivers license i was required by law to wear glasses while driving, whereas now i don't. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2963 Joined: 3 Apr 2008 | maybe its something to do with the glasses that makes people a heavy game, has anyone though of that huh? and no i dotn have glasses, on the cusp of heavy 20/20 vision |

So, I'm going to ask about 2 statuses. Glasses and heavy gamer. I want to see if heavy gamers are more likely to have glasses or not.
(Heavy gamer >20 hours a week)
