my friend and i have been having this debate about which is better for many months, i personally think that the mouse is better b/c you have more accuracy, and such. so what do y'all think?

Kinda vague... Better for what?

I think this threads been done before if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway, to answer the question: Controller. That's only because I'm used to owning a console.

Also, spelling isn't that hard to do. Take a little time out and get your grammer right. Capital letters people.

Mouse for pretty much everything except for flight sims, which you should buy a joy stick for.

Oh your so silly ;)

Like Sennet said: Better for what?

Controller hands down for fighting games, as well as those played within the third person perspective.

Otherwise I need the range and accuracy of a mouse.

Well, the mouse is better for things that involve precision acts. But, controllers are for things like Mortal Kombat, or anything like fighting. First person shooters are way better with a mouse than with a controller.

I chose mouse, and then I thought of the wii controller and I want to take it back. Blast you polls!

Given the stipulations of the poll - "other". I'm waiting for the virtual reality set-up that reads movement. Or one that reads my brainwaves.

..hey, you didn't say it had to exist yet!

As Purple said, controller because I'm used to it. Though, I don't mind using the mouse for FPS.

|I think it depends both on what game you're playing and what you're used to. I'm fairly sure that one of the reasons I traded Halo 3 after playing only 1.5 levels is that I found it very difficult to use the controller for an FPS.

That said, I completed both Bioshock, The Darkness and Condemned 2 with a controller, so there may be less in that than I thought.

keyboard + Mouse is better definitely for FPS and RTS
For starters the xbox controller waste 6 fingers which makes reaction times slower.
and my thumbs are short and stubby so i have to shift my hand to reach the top buttons.
Controllers are only work in adventure and fighting games.

I choose controller, but only because Keyboard are geared towards right-handers and to play properly I either have to cross over my arms or change all the controls.

Console games, not much choice so kind of pointless to ask.

PC games...
FPS - Mouse/Keyboard Combo
RTS - Mouse/...

To hell with it..., EVERYTHING except simulations, Mouse/Keyboard combo.
Simulations - Joystick.

I can never do any FPSing with a mouse. Perhaps its because I always have my mouse on an extremely high sensitivity...

I'm mostly an FPS player. mouse and keyboard above all else!

Depends on the game. Some games designed for the console still have shitty aiming with a contoller, while others work better with one... And you HAVE to have a joystick for flying games... Still love having X-Wing on my laptop...

Mouse wins hands down for FPS and RTS. Most other games tend not to need the accuracy.

Keyboard/mouse for FPS/RTS/RPG
Joypad for sims/fighting games
Wiimote for sports/driving games.

I used to play most of my games on PC (especially shooters) so I became really good at using the mouse. As time went on, I went to mainly MMO/TBS/RTS on the comp, so my killing skill decreased but I could still work it. THEN everyone in the world started playing Halo 2...then Halo 3...and CoD4, so now I'm stuck using a controller, even when I jump on Steam for TF2. Such a shame

Mouse/Keyboard for me. This may be due to the fact that I don't have a console and never played with a joystick.

Now for the last, 5 or so years, I've been a dedicated trackball user. Trackman Wheel specifically, I can only work with thumb-driven trackballs, not those top-ball finger models. I can do things in Battlefield that no mouse user can match, and my response times in RTS games is unparalleled. Recently, I purchased the Logitech MX Revolution, originally for non-game PC use (its extra buttons and scroll functions are priceless in Excel) but I'm starting to find I use it more and more in games. I still love my Trackman, but its so fucking BASIC. Two buttons and scroll wheel, thats it. Why won't anyone make a thumb-driven optical trackball with some bloody bells and whistles? Microsoft used to, but they pulled the model I loved (Optical Trackball Explorer).

Mouse for RTS, and either a controller or mouse for FPS im equally comfortable with both. For games like AC or PoP, controller for sure.

I'm gonna jump on PurpleRains bandwagon before it gets too crowded. Controller all the way.

Though I don't mind a mouse for RTS games, but that's only because the ones I like are all on PC.

Mouse and Keyboard all the way. Only negative aspect of them is that I find it somewhat hard to be in a relaxed position with them...

Force feedback codpiece.

And no, I'm not going to give a serious answer... it's like asking "What's better, a car or a truck or a boat?" Doesn't that depend on whether you're getting groceries, machine parts, or a trawl line?

depends on the game really, here's my breakdown

fighting - controller
rts/god game - mouse + keyboard
first person games (not just fps's) - mouse + keyboard
driving game - driving wheel if not controller
flight sim - joystick if not controller
third person - 6 in one half dozen in the other

i didn't vote cause there's not clarity on the application

always mouse, it gives me more control because i cn actually control the speed of turning really easy. at fps's that is. in rts's it's just almost required by law.

RTS, RPGs & inventry heavy games I prefer mouse + keyboard.

3rd person action games like GTA & sports games I prefer console controllers (or at least the controllers ive used)

But that said, im quite happy to play a game like Viva Pinata on console thouugh its interface feels more suited to PC. & theres pleanty of action games ive played on PC that I was perfectly comfortable with

Mouse and keyboard all the way.

The only time it isn't better is with the lazy console ports that play better with a controller because the devs were to lazy to make a decent pc control scheme.

Holy shit, Anarchemitis, I think you're onto something...

The problem is, where to put the ball, doesn't work in the center like that... I'd say left thumb because that's the traditional spot for movement controls, but thumb-operated trackballs are usually for the right thumb...

I gots it... But damned if I can draw it.
