Gone Gonzo Posts: 3791 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | No fighting? Hentai is all I know... My girlfriend loves Inuyasha, Blood, Death Note, and a bunch more... I got my ex-wife into Hellsing really hardcore. And I love Bleach with a passion. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3791 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | Oh, My friend loves Fruits Basket! That one has a great story line with some funny quotes... I actually sing "High school girls, High School Girls, All for me, High School Girls.." |

Escapist friends, my girlfriend. Baby-girl, my friends. |
Beat Writer Posts: 186 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | Fushugi Yugi/Mysterious Play is definetely a popular one with female fans. Anything by Rumiko Takahashi she might also enjoy such as Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura, Maison Ikkoku, and InuYasha (shut up). |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1146 Joined: 5 May 2008 | Evening. And I have to agree with General Ma Chao. Fushigi Yugi is an awesome series. Though I was slightly dissappointed with how it ended. |

Yep, it's by Mahiro Maeda who was also involved in Evangelion, Escaflowne, and Samurai Champloo, among others. I love it, I think it is one of the best anime around. I just ordered the box set and you will hear the squeeing for miles when it finally arrives.
Your girlfriend has good taste. Wolf's Rain is great, and the closing theme song makes me tear up. |

*bows her head slightly* Thanks. I liked the opening song though. Stray But one of my favorite songs was from Inuyasha. It was the closing song to, I believe, the third or fourth season. Every Heart |

Also, the massive gay and lesbian undertones might be a bit much. I'll second Full Metal Panic. It has fighting, but it's really more about the character arcs for Sousuke and Kaname. If you can grab an English dub of "My Dear Marie", which is a three-episode OVA, but is fantastically funny, as well as heartfelt. Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok for both one of the best representations of Norse mythology in anime, and a really good show. D.N Angel might be good for her. Not much fighting at all, and it's big on characters and humor. Very romantic comedy. Magikano too. It's a classic harem/magical girl show, but with some of the funniest lines I've ever heard. Revolutionary Girl Utena might be a bit cerebral for her (or me, or anyone else for that matter), but she might like it. Fushigi Yuugi is very much like a proto-Inuyasha with less violence and more on the romantic side (also, it eventually ends, which is always a plus). Aside from those, Miyazaki is fantastic, especially Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Spirited Away. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1146 Joined: 5 May 2008 | I wasn't to fond of Howl's Moving Castle, but Spirited Away gained my approval. Haku's dragon form was well designed. There is another by Miyazaki, if I remember correctly, and it's about a young woman who lives in a world that when an animal is shot and is "poisoned" by the lead, it turns into a savage monster. I do recall that it was focused a lot on Wolves. The name escapes me though. For the life of me I can't remember what it's called. And I wanted to buy the movie at one point. That is rather hard when you cant remember the name. |

Muckraker Posts: 324 Joined: 15 Dec 2007 | Genshiken is a well writte anime, but for the complete story you need the manga. i would like to recomend rurori kenshin but theres fighting, but hey there are good charaters, good plot, episodes that are like small adventures without much action, and the main characters never try to kill someone, if i remember well chobits is also a nice anime but im not sure if your girlfriend would like it, because of some characters |

Anyone who 'exclusivly' only watch a certain anime studio who hasn't produced any really DECENT ANIME EVER IN HISTORY should really open their minds to new stuff. Get Chobits, Elfen Lied and Genocyber. Here is opening to the both animes I recommend: http://youtube.com/watch?v=qI5Tj7HEg3s http://youtube.com/watch?v=xtfbvc-S2gQ http://youtube.com/watch?v=9O6p7o_y32k http://youtube.com/watch?v=dHW4bnuiTuo http://youtube.com/watch?v=MXWOk9my78s |

Yes! Thanks! I knew it had to do with a Princess, but I couldn't remember her name! Thanks J-e-f-f-e-r-s. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1788 Joined: 7 Feb 2008 | Well I can go off of some of the stuff my Girlfriend is fond of... Habaine Renmei (sp?): A cute, sweet, cerebral and kind of sad fantasy mystery about people who wake up in a new world, full of strange rules with angel wings and halo's. It gets kind of dark later though. Full Metal Alchemist: It has some thematic similarities with Miyazaki's work and has an excellent plot, though it's a bit on the angsty side sometimes. Tokyo Godfathers: An interesting comedy/adventure/drama about three homeless people and a baby. Paprika: Same director as above, full of humor, pretty imagery, some action and remarkably good techno music. This guy also did Paranoia Agent, which has been recommended by many above. Gadguard: My Girlfriend loved it, cool, jazzy and full of personality. Also superhero/giant robots and a good story. Cowboy Bebop: This one sort of transcends anime and appeals to everyone. Loads of action and comedy, a bit of drama, and it easily has the best soundtrack in Anime. Rahxephon: Sort of like Neon Genesis Evangelion except about Music instead of Religion and the characters are a LOT more likable. Animated/Created by Bones, the studio behind FMA, Wolfs Rain and Eureka 7. Eureka 7: Cute, Romantic, Action Packed with an ending that'll make you happy. It also has some truly excellent characters and great mecha action from the Macross School of Direction (as opposed to Gundam or Getter Robo). Slayers: Girls like Slayers... this seems to be a universal law in anime. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 627 Joined: 12 Apr 2008 | I would recommend: Midori Days: A guy wakes up to find his left hand has transformed into one of his classmates Tokyo Godfathers: Just a nice story, with a transvestite... Fruits Basket: Met only two girls who don't like this one Saikano, The Ultimate Weapon: High school romance between a weaponized cyborg and a boy... And even though its the complete opposite, Karas part 1 & 2, a total of 150 minutes of epic action and 20 minutes of actual plot. Very high Budget as well! |
Press Junketeer Posts: 436 Joined: 10 Sep 2007 | Air, Kanon, or Clannad are nice, even if they may as well use the exact same set of characters. I'd say Air's got the most interesting story, Kanon's longer, and is generally better, but the girls in Clannad don't look like bug-eyed monsters.
"Undertones"? Pfff. They're not nearly subtle enough to be called "undertones". You may as well say that Strawberry Panic had "lesbian undertones". That said, CCS is a great series. Maybe show it to her when she's more acclimatised with anime in general. |
Paperboy Posts: 15 Joined: 18 Mar 2008 | I would suggest Revolutionary Girl Utena, use the movie version though. I will also second Azumanga Daioh, this is a must watch series. The Appleseed series is good. Armitage is similar, & good one with a strong female lead. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 401 Joined: 8 May 2008 | The Rose of Versailles its animation is a bit dated but apparently the story is quite strong. I just say hold her down and make her watch Berserk and Basilisk for starters. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 124 Joined: 22 Sep 2007 | Cowboy Bebop and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya come to mind. |
Beat Writer Posts: 146 Joined: 25 Sep 2007 | School Rumble, ROD TV, Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro, Great Teacher Onizuka, Boogiepop Phantom, Full Metal Panic, Mahoromatic and Martian Successor Nadesicco are all great. Some are old series' too so you should be able to find them on the cheap :) |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 3187 Joined: 24 Apr 2008 | 'Uber lookit 76' it doesn't exist just like your girlfriend. couldn't resist, no harm intended, i do know some anime that chicks tend to like, but what is the girl in question like? 'female' does leave a huge range of stuff, any narrowing factors? |
Press Junketeer Posts: 493 Joined: 9 Oct 2007 | There is actually a whole section of anime that is dedicated to women called shojo. However, in the West, anime seems to be dominated by male-oriented titles and manga is pretty much dominated by female-oriented titles. If you want something you can both watch... Full Metal Panic |

*folds her arms and laughs* So Inuyasha rules. I've sat through enough DBZ to last me a while. I'm wanting them to bring out a final season of Inuyasha. I want to see Naraku get his ass handed to him. Or if Sesshomaru get's drawn into Naraku's body and THEN Inuyasha beats Naraku silly. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1146 Joined: 5 May 2008 | I've found another Anime that I believe other GF's would like. It's called E'S Otherwise. It's different but i think that's why I like it so much. |
Paperboy Posts: 28 Joined: 23 May 2008 | Death note |
Beat Writer Posts: 129 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | Agreed that Berserk is great, though may be too violent for her tastes. I think 'Golden Boy' is hilarious. It's silly and the main character is a creepy perv, but it's pretty funny and watchable. |

hmm there are a few shonen-ai/yaoi out there that are in fact violent, Viewfinder, Boys next Door, but those have yet to see the light of animation... though I was surprised to see Viewfinder in the states Try these Kaikan Phrase, Nana, XXXHolic, Key the metal Idol, Serial Experiments Lain, Black Heaven, Dead Leaves, Peach Girl, Loveless, He is my Master, Outlaw Star. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 100 Joined: 21 Jan 2008 | I think this depends a lot on what kind of interests your girlfriend has. Honestly my GF and I watch loads of anime together, but alone i've watched nearly a thousand hours i'd say. I'll list some of the more notable one's that seem to span specific interests. "none of the following are hentai" above all just remember her tastes. What she likes to read is a good indicator of what she'll like to watch. oh yeah DON'T WATCH DUBS most of them are pretty bad, if you can, stick to subs and you will be pleased. A few notably good dubs are Cowboy Bebop, Big O, and FLCL. "if you want more anime just message me or something, there's no way i can remember everything i've watched at once" |
Press Junketeer Posts: 430 Joined: 18 May 2008 | A few of the girls I know like death note... Oh, and although I don't know if it's available on DVD, Tactics kinda fits your description. It came on Mondays on the SciFi channel, and though I only got the last bit of the show, I thought it was pretty cool. Japanese exorcism, ghosts, goblins, and humor to boot. |

Ouran High School Host Club is pretty sweet. It's a screwball romantic comedy, according to the wikipedia article.
