So do you think that the evil number of the beast is 666? Well you would be wrong if you said yes. In fact due to some minutes of interned scouring and bible reading(yeah I read the entire bible in minutes) I have made a discovery in fact it is 669! I'm not too sure how everyone got 666 must have been in the translations. Anyway what is your thoughts on my amazing discovery? Am I lying to you? No.

Aha! Fun topic.

In biblical numerology the numer 6 represents chaos and if a numer is written three times it has a much higher relevance. 7 on the other hand means order and represents God.

The bible passage you are thinking of (cant be bothed to look it up) would be in Revelations and the number 666 is written on lots of evil things. But Revelations is a very very vauge book filled with symbolism that doesnt make alot of sense anymore.

it's a superstition, nothing more. if i live at 666 fake street, not only am i going to have a hard time getting anything in the mail(lol) but i very much doubt my life will be thrown into turmoil haha. it's like throwing salt over your shoulder, if someone had never heard of it before, it seems very ridiculous(sp)

The number is believed by some scholars to be a reference to the Roman Emperor Nero. "Nero," written in Aramic, is valued at 666 in Hebrew gematria.

"SIX SIX SIX, THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST

HELL AND FIRE, WERE SPAWNED TO BE RELEASED!!!!"

Whether or not it's actually the devil's number, it spawned one of the best songs in all of human history.

My favorite theory on this was the VISA thing (VI in roman numerals = 6, S is sigma in greek which is 6, and A in Babylonian is 6, or so I have read). I liked it mainly because it talked about how unless you had "the mark" you couldn't buy or sell.

And also I like the idea that credit cards will damn us all.

I must apologize, but I'm unfamiliar with what you refer to you when you say QI. If you would elaborate, I would greatly appreciate it.

You may indeed be right. I'm not familiar enough with the issue to formulate a debate on the matter, but I do believe that the 666=Nero theory (or the 616=Nero theory, whatever the case may be) is hardly universal among theology scholars.

But that's the dimensional co-ordinates of Marvel-Earth! Does this mean Stan Lee is the antichrist?

*cough* I think Remag has it right. Bear in mind that Nero's horrifying mass murder of, well, anyone he didn't like and Christians in particular was going on at the time Revelations was being written. Well, the book was supposedly completed sometime around 90 A.D. and Nero's legacy was very much still in living memory.

Quite Interesting one of the most Interesting quizzes that have come to this planet through the television that is our centre of knowledge, mentioned this. They asked what the number of the beast was and Alan Davies who got it wrong (as always) got a bunch of negative points for answering 666.

Their story was that it was originally 616 but was then afterwards translated wrongly into 666 by a man who thought it would be 'simpler'.

It's pure superstition, of course, so I kind-of cringe when I heard the Europarlement has nobody sitting in chair 666 - though that may be a silly story.

And interestingly enough the fear of 666, which by definition is a phobia as it has no real ground, is called 'Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia'. People who are afraid of long words should never go to a psychiatrist when unnerved with the number 666.

There is nothing wrong with religion by its self, but there is a huge problem with the people who interpret it, most religions are based on the ideal that people should treat others with respect.

and don't think for a minute that I am a God-boy, I don't think that religion is needed in the modern society, it restricts progress way to much

well said, most ppl don't understand the words in the bible or it's phrases that have fallen out of use, the qur'an and the torrah are written in the same language that is still spoken today, english has evolved a LOT since the king james version

look at the phrase "raised someone from amongst the dead" or "cast the person out amongst the dead", those are things jesus did AND had nothing to do with actual dead people.

funny story that happened to me in college:

prof was talking about religion and said "all religions carry the same msg, does anyone know what it is?"
i said "yes it's 'you practice vice you will be punished, practice virtue you will be rewarded' "
a girl turned around with a snarky face going "no christianity it's the golden rule, do unto other's as you'd have done unto you"
i retort with "yes i just said that, what do you think the golden rule means? if you treat someone bad you will be punished, if you treat them well you will be rewarded"

I couldn't agree more, mate. Were living in a world in which we can build supercomputers, sattelites and whatnot, Do we honestly need an ancient book full of symbolism to tell us that killing is bad? Hell no...

And god, does it piss me off whenever some high'n'mighty christian is wailing about how stem cell research and abortion is horrible. It's about fucking choice for Jesus' sake! If you don't wanna donate a fetus, don't! It's that simple!

Sorry about ranting, there.

R.S. tests obviously aren't testing you enough. If religion is unproven, is atheism proven? Religion doesn't cause wars, people use religion as an excuse to go to war. I'm not religious myself but I think that everyone should at least try and understand that there's nothing wrong with religion (unless it advocates, in its current form, morally wrong things) but with people.

actually if you want to have some fun, learn the bible and what the phrases mean in it, then use that info against bible thumpers cause most don't know their own bible. it's funnier cause it's their own holy book you're using. learning a bit of hebrew helps too

mormons often find themselves "busy" after a couple mins of me questioning them and making a few points.

I agree, questioning people who think that the whole bible should be followed to the letter about, for example, whether they wear 'shirts with mixed fibres' is fun, but don't forget this: In Luke's gospel at least, one of Jesus' biggest complaints about the Jewish leadership is that they follow the rules set out by the Torah blindly, without considering why they are there in the first place. I think alot of religious people pick and choose what to follow and what not to; that's not being indecisive, that's being sensible and thinking independently.

my personal fav is asking them if God is a god of love or hate? they will always answer love, then ask them if they would ask someone to kill their child to prove their love for you? you'll get a look of horror and say "well your god of love asked Abraham to kill his son to prove he loved him"

or ask them if they think the bible should be followed word for word, if they say yes, and they have a daughter, ask them how much he wants for his daughter cause you want to buy her. yes selling your daughter into slavery is ok according to the bible :)

the bible is a book of parable that was designed to show ppl how to live a good life and treat one another and also a bit about our past. yes a lot of the events DID happen in the bible they are just seen and told thru the eyes of those who didn't understand what they were seeing. it is still useful today BUT only the life lessons should be gleaned from it and some historical stuff if you know how to pick it out

You idiots; you're reading it wrong. It's not 666, it's 18.

For that is when you become an adult and hell opens it's doors to you.
