try Les claypool (he can do guitar playing but on slap bass) or Stanley Clarke, who well could run circles around most guitarists without breaking a sweat a couple things you can't slap guitar like you can a bass, i'm not talking about hammer-ons either cause you can do that with a bass also bass is the plague that makes your booty move, no bass means no dancing |

But I'm sure if I actually tried to I would get impatient and frustrated and end up wasting money on a guitar that just lays there. So I bow to you good folks who actually can play and return to my GH... |

I have played the violin offically more than half of my life (I'm 20 and have been playing 12 years.) and yes it is hard. The difficulty is from the ears you have to develop to learn to play it. Unlike a piano, or fretted guitar, fretted bass, etc. a violin (and any stringed instrument in its family) can hit every note in its range as well as every note in between. You have no frets and have to learn through physical memory as well as hearing where your finger goes exactly, sliding it a fraction puts you too sharp or too flat. Also theres not really any such thing as violin tabs, so you will have to learn to read sheets at least proficently. I have also been learning the piano, and I am finding it hard. I am so used to having my hands complement each other that I keep syncing them without thinking. |

Paperboy Posts: 11 Joined: 29 Apr 2008 | I've been playing guitar now for round 7 years. Best thing I've ever done with my life. I have had so many great times jamming with mates, gigging in different places and generally meeting like minded folk. At such gigs I've had my guitar stole twice and blew my amp out more times than i can count but have always had help from other guys when i needed it. I would recommend that everyone in the world learned an instrument and started a band the next day. What a world that would be. |

No! Then the people that did play instruments would lose all the chicks to guys that could play and looked good! |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 743 Joined: 9 Jan 2008 | I used to play the guitar a lot. Now I stopped and can play the mouth harp to a proffesional level. Guitar sounds brilliant and you can make some very nice tunes, but I just felt I didn't wish to continue, I think this may have come down to my guitar teacher. What a hippy prick. Maybe I should dust down the old boy for one last trip. |

Self teaching man, it's the way to go. Sure you might miss on some of the nuances of your instrument but you pick them up as you go along. Plus you only have to play stuff that you enjoy playing. |

That guitar is made by a company called Eko. I couldn't tell you anymore about it really because there is almost no markings on it. |

True, I might try this. |
Paperboy Posts: 44 Joined: 28 Jan 2008 | I play the theremin. completely self-built, self-tuned and self-taught. Though I still can't play anything with a moderatly fast stacatto, people say it's pretty good. I don't play much though, as it needs to be retuned for every room you're in, and how close it is to the TV and such. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 62 Joined: 24 Dec 2007 | I played the trumpet in middle/high school band, I play electric guitar now and I tried to learn drums(to impress a girl) but I never really got into it. And I'm now hoping to learn to play the piano. Also I have the most AWESOME guitar EVER. It's the epitome of guitaritude. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 4 Joined: 9 May 2008 | I play trumpet, saxophone(alto, mainly), trombone, french horn, flute, clarinet, ocarina, piano, bass guitar(prefer 5-string over 4, have both acoustic and electric), guitar(have multiple electrics and one craptacular acoustic), mandolin, steel drum... Pretty much anything I pick up, I can play. Kinda cool, being in a ska band, cause I get to play whatever instrument I feel like at the time. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 10 Joined: 1 May 2008 | I've been playing the drums on and off since highschool and I'm teaching myself guitar...it's a pain to learn to play left handed on a right handed electric. I'd like to eventually learn how to play the paino and bass guitar as well. Cheers Shieldsy |

I love playing the piano, I'll never know why. You can't showboat like with a guitar or drums. A real piano, IE one that's not electric, only has one sound to it. A real piano can't be plugged into an amp (I think) And I think it's the best damn instrument I've ever played in my life. They'd better make a "Piano Hero" or something like that. I would rock. Been playing for 10 years now, but I am a little rusty. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 737 Joined: 31 Jan 2008 | 2 and bit years of bass.. Mr Mcgee - Im gonna be honest.. I hate the thunderbird. I owned one last year as my 2nd bass and yeah.. Hate. I cant get over the neck dive, as soon as I took my hands of the thing the neck went right down and the strap came off... Then theres the tone issue.. You can have low and muddy or low and muddy. Its an allright tone if your Kings of Leon but if you want to play a bunch of diffrent styles then its useless. I've got a fender jazz now which is defently the most comfy, best looking and tone aweosme bass I've played. Dispite the handycap that is the thunderbird you played pretty well! Maybe like.. Bend your left wrist so your thumb is touching the back of the fretboard.. That will give you a much bigger span then if your all cramped up (somthing I learnt from my teacher =P) Im gonna be a rock star one day (phht..) =) |

Aw man... I'm so jealous that you've got a fender jazz. My first bass was a fender jazz imitation. How much did it cost you? Those things are damn expensive. I bought my thunderbird a while ago and since I'm self taught I actually know bugger all about issues of tone. Though I think you can get a decent variety of sounds out of it - http://youtube.com/watch?v=dLGtmBagbuM I should be a lot better than I actually am, since I've been playing for 7 years now. The neck plunge is a bit of a bugger, but I make the sacrifice because I love the way it looks. Plus it's fine if you just keep your hands on it. |

Muckraker Posts: 294 Joined: 9 May 2008 | I play electric guitar in band; I suck, hate playing full chords and no way can play bar chords, but one thing I've learned is that simple music can still be good music. Just look at 'Smoke on the Water'...really simple riff that's legendary! |

I play guitar, own an acoustic an a fender strat lonestar. I also play a little piano from when I was younger, but not that good at it. I like playing classic rock and blues, like jimi hendrix, stevie ray vaughn, bb king, etc. also like modern rock and stuff like sublime, so i'm a bit all over the place.
