x434343, your opinion is not right. It isn't wrong, either. It is just one among millions, and no more important than anyone else's. You may think they suck, but obviously some people don't because their first album, according to Amazon.com, has sold over 1.5 million copies.

I got nothing against the fray.. How to save a life is a pretty cool song

Why do you think that?

I like the Piano which really drives the song, the hook line is really catchy so its good to sing along too, the bassline is subtle but locks in with the drums pretty much 100%, the guitar is kinda weak but the focus is defently on the piano and lyrics (which are pretty strong) so it does the job really well, he has a pretty good voice and the drum beat is really solid.

I saw them live at V last year, and my god, they were terrible. The worst live band I have ever seen. The singer's voice was off-key, the drums sounded terrible, you couldn't hear the bass...

Sorry to say mate but Bass generally isn't distinguishable in live acts unless it's playing solo or has light percussion running over it.
When you're sitting at such a low frequency you'll always gets muddied out by the drummer//singer//guitars.

Orly?
I only ever bothered with 'The Sickness'.. There's way better metal bands to discuss than those dudes (sorry if i offend any Sickness fanboys)

I hate the Fray with a passion.

However, it's very difficult to straddle the line between lapping up every song the top ten churns out without finding yourself slowly turning into one of *those* people.

Y'know? The people who only name bands you've never heard of, and get snooty if you admit to having drunkenly danced to Britney Spears; who are pretty much guaranteed to spend most of their time on Last Fm trying to be the person who listens to obscure french electro band/dark gore metal flesh buster the most; who bemoans the state of current music and constantly reminds us how "great" the *insert decade here* were; who will willingly listen to Daphne and Celeste, but only IRONICALLY.

I wish music didn't have to be so polarising at times...

I kinda like the tune of 'How to Save a Life'; it's addictive to me. Does no one remember the PS3 song?

But, if you don't like, like inbetweendreams said, wait it out, and it'll leave. Me, I don't really watch TV, so I don't see it.

On a side note, Conqueror Kenny, is that the guy from 'Land of Confusion' as your avatar?

Edit: As this topic is now discussing Disturbed (how the hell did that happen?), I will throw in my 2 cents. I love Disturbed, and have heard quite a few of their songs. I ended up introducing the band to some of my friends, and they too love Disturbed now. I reckon it's a good band, but if someone doesn't agree, ah well. IMHO, their loss.

True, but i think fact of the matter is the majority of people who appreciate bass are people who play it, it's kinda sad because it's just as challenging as a guitar (have a look at some Flea slapbass Solos on DVD or some olskool Primus filmclips) which most people don't get because of the '4-string complex'.
i.e when i started playing bass, a fair few of my mates were dissin' me with the "errrr how hard can it be to play, it's only got 4 strings" comments amongst others.
They're all heavily into music (good music i might add) and they still hold similar beliefs that guitars are superior and//or more challenging just because they sit on more audible frequencies.

No one cares.
This thread isn't going to get rid of the Fray no matter how much you want it to.
So stop bashing random bands and go discuss something interesting.

I don't get what half the people see with "popular" music these days. I never listen to the radio. I can't stand The Fray and I have even less time for Fallout Boy. I heard them 10 years ago on this punk sampler CD I have and they were a talentless, third-rate punk band then. Now they are just a third-rate whatever they are band. While I admire their tenacity and their persistence in the face of overwhelming evidence that they actually do suck, I cannot comprehend how they shot from obscurity to become "media darlings".

Maybe it's Pete Wentz and his guyliner.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

Nope, young people like me aren't bothering either. But, I may be a somewhat rare example, as I end up listening to AM in the car (damn parents, controlling the radio).

Nah, I'm still pretty young (17, young? yeah) and I hardly ever listen to the radio.
I'm also one of 'those guys' who could probably name a load of bands that no one has ever heard of. Such as Robot Ninja Dinosaur Bastards (came across them the other day, gave them a listen purely for the name. Telling many people about them).

However, I'm not one of those people that instantly dislikes anything because it's mainstream or anything, and I'll give most music a chance.

The Fray failed me though...

Well, at the festival I was at, there were plenty of acts where the bass could be heard (Kasabian were nothing but bass). What I saw of the Fray was just sloppy. Their sound engineer at least deserves a good thumping.

That's the attitude I've tried to live by and it has worked out alright for me. Keep up the good work in supporting alternative or local music.

Really "how to save a life" is the only one I've heard(that or most of the songs ARE SO DAMN SAMEY)
But really it's also the case with most other bands and their songs today (won't go on to name them).
I for one follow yahtzee's method of "declaring everything shit unless it can prove otherwise"(See "SSBB" review)
The only bands I like now are those oldies(paedophilles some may be, THEY HAVE GOOD MUSIC!!)
