Sure, they've been spoofed a million times, but they heralded in the era of 70's realism and left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape that is both difficult and foolish to ignore. |

The lighting and cinematography was sheer brilliance (escpecially on Brando/ eyes weren't lit giving him a more dark secret appeal), the script was great and I for one got into the charcaters. I agree with the PotC. The first one was fun and adventurous, the rest just lost it. My list: Film: It's a toss up between Lord The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring or Fight Club. LotR: FotR was completely batshit insane the way it was assembled. (End of crappy film school) Failing that, Fight Club is a perfect film. Perfectly shot, directed, acted, edited, scripted. Actor: Robert Duvall for his roles in The Godfather, The Apostle and Apocalypse Now. "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning" Actress: Carmen Electra... I kid, I kid! The best Actress is the Australian girl, Lisa McCune. Scene: John Carpenter's The Thing, the blood test scene. Never before did I jump and shit myself. Director: Stanley Kubrick all the way!
Watch Godfather 2, Raging Bull and Taxi Driver and that'll change your mind about him. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2016 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | best movie/actor/actress/scene and director Movie - I'm kinda partial to Iron Man right now, but once it wears off I'd have to say a tie between Alien and American Beauty. Actor - Live Action I'd say Sir Ian McKellen, voice talent would be Keith David hands down. Actress - Live Action would be Mila Jovovich, voice talent is definitely Lisa Ortiz. Scene - The movie Orgasmo (Trey Parker, Matt Stone) where Asian rapper and sushi-bar owner "G-Fresh" is roughed up by some thugs for not selling the restaurant... Intentionally badly done, and thats why I love it... The part where they throw G-Fresh against the wall (and its obviously a dummy) and the head bends at an angle that would be fatal, then G-Fresh gets up with just a small cut on his forehead... Priceless. Director - (So tempted to say Uwe Bole just for kicks) Ridley Scott for sure. |

I think I will go with Smokin Aces because of the Gut wrenching ending or The Fellowship of the Ring because of the Way it still impreses me. However I think no one can say they have a fvourite movie. Actor: James Earl Jones for the Voice of Darth vader, if voices can't be allowed I will say Sean Bean Actress: Cate Blanchett Scene: Really hard to say. The one that is coming to mind at the moment is the End of Smokin Aces. Still I am pretty sure that many more could make this selective list of mine. Director: For pulling off The Lord of The Rings I see no other answer but Peter Jackson. Even if you didn't like the films you can't say that making a Lord of The Rings movie good is a hard job to do. |

that's the thing he CAN be a good actor but there's been a few movies he's been HORRIBLE in so that's why i kinda have this debate about him. he's done some great movies and had some great roles but he's also had way more bad roles than good. like take pacino as a comparisson, even if the movie is bad (devil's advocate) he's brilliant in the movie and usually pulls gives it a bit of class. i'd say brando was in there too but he had this bad habit of "calling it in" too many times and also being a bit of a prima donna |

Paperboy Posts: 49 Joined: 9 May 2008 | Quite a mix of predictable (given the web site we're on) choices and really bizzare ones on this question. I've never even heard of a few of the movies mentioned. I've seen a lot of movies so it's hard to narrow it down to one best of each category (especially when new movies keep coming out) but here goes: My votes are: Best Actor: Sean Connery (He has the ability to show genuine looking emotions; can do, and pretty much has done, every genre of movie; give great performances in great, ok and even terrible movies (The "new" version of The Avengers anyone?); has played many iconic characters yet manages to continue career without being typecast into the same kind of role as his best known one (James Bond); etc.) Best Actress: Gracie Allen (I know most people haven't seen a movie with her in it in years but you should see the ones she was in. She could be hilarious, sexy, serious, strong, vulnerable etc all in the same movie. It's a tough call since so many actresses look and act similar, especially these days, that it's hard to separate them out.) Scene: The scene in Return of the Jedi when Darth Vader saves Luke from the Emperor. (That's really a tough one, but that scene is one of the most memorable for me. Besides, it is the pivotal moment in the whole Star Wars series when Anakin is redeemed from the Dark Side. I mean the seduction, fall and eventual redeption of Anakin Skywalker is really what the whole series of films is about.) Director: Mel Gibson (Bet you thought I would say George Lucas huh? No, Gibson deserves way more praise than he gets. Especially for Passion of the Christ. It took a lot of guts for him to make that movie. I practicly blackballed him in Hollywood and he had to use his own money to make it since the studios were too wimpy to take the risk. Any director or producer who will put his neck on the line to make a movie like that is great in my opinion.) I have lots of "honorable mentions" for each category, but I won't bore you with those. I know I picked some of the same things as others did but these are my honest opinions which I guess you are after. |

Exactly what I believe I thank you but the hate has nothing to do with the study, if Godfather wasn't disqualified there wouldn't be much point in making this Goodfellas better than Godfather yes, Taxi Driver even better though :) |

Anonymous Source Posts: 9 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | Film: Fight Club Actor: Kevin Spacey - Just because he has the most amazing face. He's been slipping in his choice of films recently but his pre-2000 work like L.A. Confidential, American Beauty, and The Usual Suspects is phenomenal. Actress: Cate Blanchett - I loved The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Scene: "We're gonna need a bigger boat" - enough said - the fact that you know which scene I mean by that quote alone just exemplifies my point. Director: Steven Spielberg (yes yes yes I know it's not a very interesting or exciting choice but who else could have made a ugly, bald, grey alien seem lovable and cute?) Monsters: Spielberg's T.Rex. Ah, oo or maybe his shark. I don't know. No I'm gonna go with the dinosaur. In a fight, both could kick Scott's Alien's arse any day though. Villain: Hans Gruber (but Alan Rickman is always the best baddie - see the 1991 Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - "I'll cut his heart out with a spoon!") Hero: Marge Gunderson from Fargo. |

My thanks to those who have veiwed this post, currently at my college I have to create a movie magazine to pass the course.... one part is to have a "vote" as it were to find out the best movie/actor/actress/scene and director ever *cough* Martin Scorsese....
So if you will...without any arguing please "vote" for the above 5 categories (those who argue/question peoples choices will be disqualified)
EDIT: Very well, due to the amount of complaints I have recieved due to the disallowment of The Godfather , my decision is over turned as allow I regret this next sentence, PotC is also available to vote for.... also due to the fact the amount of varied films that have been chosen I actually doubt anyone would of thought of the godfather....If you wish to change your choices do it now....
I have also decided to disqualify myself as I was acting almost Facist and I apologise yet again!
