I would. The Truman Show was a very eye-opening movie for me in terms of social existence and 3rd person.

That's the Jim Carrey movie, right? Very underrated.

Well, if you want to go down the Orwellian route, 1984 is about a man trapped in an oppressive regime where he and the rest of the general populace are monitored for any signs of disobedience. But you probably know that already. That's the most vaguely similar book I can think of anyway. Much, much, much darker though.

What's weird is, I was thinking about this last night, what if I was in my own kind of Truman show obviously not named the same (or is it?) or how do you know that your no "Truman" and this is all created to mess with your mind.... Now I'm paranoid again

And then you get into the Descartes argument, what if everything around me is nothing but an illusion created by an evil demon outside of my sensory perception?

Down such roads, madness lies...

Strafe Mcgee pretty much said everything else that I had planned to say, but IMHO, The Truman Show is a very underrated movie. One of my all-time faves.

Seeing as 1984 invented the "Orwellian" story, as it was written by George Orwell.

Just a piece of advice, NEVER get involved in philosophy! Just reading this thread got me back to when i was a teenager, who filled his mind with philosophy to escape my oh so horrible life. I once suffered from insomnia because of philosophy. Just thinking about the concept of death makes me cringe :(-

Personally I loved the movie. One of my faves.

A book like it though? Can't think of one offhand...

"Time out of joint" by Phillip K. Dick uses similar themes.

I wuv that movie ^^, I got the same kind of vibe from reading Catch-22, even though there aren't really any similarities between the two.

Fantastic movie. I was surprised that Carrey was able to pull off such a straight character so well, particularly following films like Batman Forever and Ace Ventura.
But he made it look easy, and made the character of Truman so empathisable (is that a word?) that it turned The Truman Show from a good film to a pretty awesome film.

2 of my fav movies. They both leave quite an impression if you're willing to think about the protagonists' situations.

There are a couple of video games that toy with the concept too, except you play the person controlling Truman's life.

Is it made by EA? Does it have to many expansionpacks?
