I make an alright roast. I love roast potatoes so was a must to learn first. And I can make a pretty good Chicken, Leek and Mushroom pie. That obviously goes well with roast potatoes!

Hmm... cooking is a lot like organic chemistry practicals; I can usually scrape through well enough to get something vaguely resembling what I was supposed to be making...

I'm quite adept at cooking, baking being my favorite by far, but I'm such a picky eater I rarely get to make anything elaborate because I won't eat it m'self. If I could get my kitchen cleaned up enough I'd want to make a couple batches of cheese scones and soft pretzels...

Damnit, now I want soft dough pretzels!

I had to start cooking for myself a few months ago (at my own request. If it depended on my mother I would carry a truckload of food and heat it up in the microwave).

However since I never really learned how to cook I don't really know how to do a lot of stuff. For the most part, and since I'm a scientist at heart, I make it up as I go along and try to get something resembling what I want. It works well enough.

I can whip up the odd gammon steak or garlic prawns. Working in a pub does have some uses.

Now I've just got to work on my Nigella Lawson style moans of delight.

Ah, Nigella...

I can throw a great dinner party, and I did cook in a restaurant for a little bit, and I can tell you, they are no more alike than figure skating and hockey. I think this is one reason why so many restaurants fail - some hobby cook decides they want to try going pro without any understanding of the difference. They come out ready to pull a triple lutz and then get body-checked into the wall.

Yes, I love to cook. Just a shame I mostly live on my own, because when I cook just for my self I really can't be bothered with it. However, when my girl or someone else comes over for dinner I really love to make them a meal.

Going vegetarian actually improved my cooking skills. Because my choices got more limited, I got forced to be more creative. My favorite ingredient is garlic. Almost anything can be made taste better with some garlic.

No obligatory joke answer? Madness. Point is, I'm a horrid at preparing food. It does help that my toaster oven has it in for me though. How does 'low' mean blackened?

Toasters are peculiar lil demons. Low-High/Light-Dark is influenced by its mood, the weather, and the positions of Beavis or Butthead around Uranus. I find it easier to cook toast with a lighter than to trust in one of those damn things.

Yes, and I am freaking brilliant! My mates used to give me crap in High School for being a wizard in the kitchen; but the women who have been in my life love it, so who's laughing now bitches!

Fellow vegetarian here, and I have to say I agree. Before I made the switch I was a capable cook. After making the switch and then being thrown into University I've found my friends popping over rather too regularly to have dinner with me.

It's so easy to murder flavour with garlic though (as awesome as it is), the biggest shift I have found is taking my time. Anybody can fry an onion, but it takes more skill to get it perfectly caramelised in balsamic vinegar.

I used to have this bitchin cake recipe (the cake is a lie)... The thing was 1/3rd sugar and used real butter, tasted so damn good I'd go through the entire cake in one day. I'd die for more of that cake but I lost the recipe when I moved to Alberta... Probably for the best, or I'd have 100lbs more on my love handles.

I cook pretty well, but I don't do it often because, as a single male, I rarely eat enough to make it worth while...

I'm so glad to know that my toaster isn't the only possessed one out there. I can cook pretty well, but that stupid toaster's just a toss up. I have a hard time believing I can prepare a complete meal from salad to entree to dessert yet fail at toast.

I want to add myself to the list of people whose skills improved when they went vegetarian. I was a decent cook before, but since becoming a vegetarian I've become a maestro in the kitchen. I think a lot of it has to do with meat being easy to prepare. Steak, burgers, and chicken are tasty even if all you add is heat. Tofu, aubergine, and even the best imitation meat products all take some effort and imagination to get good results.

I love baking too. Breads, pastries, and an assortment of cakes and cookies.

My greatest creation of all time was a green tea, maple-glazed creme brulee. Man was it good.

Chef in training at a pretty prestigious school...but it gets tiring sometimes. I'd rather someone else cook for me once in a while. Not to mention I am extremely critical of my own meals.

I've got to say I'm one hell of a cook. Give me a stove and an Oven that actually works, as in heats to the temp you set it on, and I can make awesome meals. I'm really good with steaks and Pies. And I'm not to shabby with a grill either. How would you like your steak? Rare, Medium Rare, or well done?

Been living on beans on toast for the past 18 months. Them and microwave lasagne's.

My spaghetti bol. is legend but I'm guessing the skills will have slipped somewhat as it has been so long since I cooked it.

Home taught though, mummy dearest and all that.

Steak and Pies are my Favorites (and Roasts)! Rare please, keep the flavour in.
@Gitsnik, try adding Marmite to your beans on toast for that extra kick.

You better make sure the bowl is metal...

Anyways, I myself am an alright cook. Though I mostly survive of packet and pot noodles, I can cook my own tacos, tortillas, sandwiches, and pretty much just some other miscellaneous items. Pretty mush everyone in my family loves my grilled cheese samichs...

I can make pretty much anything you want tbh. I have to look at a recipe the first time, but after that I'm usually good to go and can make alterations to make it better or more of the way I like it. Also, if I go into a restaurant and like something, I can usually pick out what is in it and duplicate it.

Now I'm hungry...time to go cook!

I'm pretty good, I always kinda wanted to be a chef when I got to this point in my life so I've taken some classes, read a lot and watched a lot of cooking shows. Though I realized I could never handle the kind of cooking environment that comes with being a chef. I'd rather just cook professional type meals at my own pace for the people I love. I know if I'd actually gone into that profession I'd have come to hate it.
