So does anyone play this?

Im talking about the cyberpunk-ish pen n paper roll playing game (not the FPS on the 360 and stuff =P)

Me and my gaming group are just starting to get into it. One guy has singed up to the GameMaster role and we'll be starting to play next week. It'll be rough cos we only have E-books we got from the net (im buying a real book this week sometime)

I have to say this game looks and sounds really really REEAAALY awesome. =D

Anyone else play it?

No I don't. How does it work? Is it similar to D&D?

It doesnt use the D20 system or clas... No its really nothing like it

Everything is used with D6s, there are no classes (its all skill bassed) and its in a totaly diffrent setting (duh)

Combat works like - I look at my ability (agility is used to shoot stuff) and I look at my skill (say pistols) I then add those two together, thats how many D6s you have. Everything above a 5 is a hit. Then the defender adds his armor and reaction and rolls that many D6s. Who ever has the most hits wins. There are a few more factors (light, cover, if your running and stuff) to add in but thats the bare basics.

The group is looking like - Me being a light fighter kinda.. (think Spike from Cowboy Bebop), we got a sniper, a driver/mechanic and a hacker (The matrix plays a pretty big roll in Shadowrun). Thats only about half of the group so it'll be cool to see what we all play.

It'll be fun =D

Do you have another hacker? If not count me in as that one.

Wait, can I have both? A (at least 3/4)cyborg hacker with a split personality I got off as a security thing on the net. It somehow got corrupted and turned insane.

That would be sweet.

I dont think anyone is hacking yet =D

Theres nothing stopping you from splitting your skills but you gotta split hacking and combat..Both are pretty skill heavy..

Like.. My guy can drive a car pretty allright but compared to someone who is built on driving stuff who can also drive planes, boats, space ships and walkers.. See what I mean?

Hmmm, I think I might stick with hacker then. Need to think of a story to go with it.

I've never played it, but I always thought it looked really cool. My friends aren't into pen & paper rpgs :(

I want to, but none of my friends have offered to DM a Shadowrun game, and there are already three games going right now, so I don't think another one will start for a while.

unless they have changed it greatly there are classes in shadowrun, they're just saying they aren't, much like saying WINE Is Not an Emulator (yes that's what the WINE acronym means).

unless they've changed it since i played it, there were certain skills and paths that meant you couldn't follow other ones, like mages could only use certain tech and were severely hampered their magical powers, other tech limited you in certain things you could do

the super nintendo shadowrun game was awesome

Shadowrun the P&P RPG is epic. I have a fortune in books from Second and Third editions, but never could find a group to play with :' (

My favorite class is street samurai. Smartlink2 system, induction pads in both hands, cybereyes, and a pair of custom pistols with Smartgun2 and security triggers (only work in my hands).

I tried running 4th edition Shadowrun a few months ago and much to my chagrin, it's a horrible mess. It's not a terrible setting, but the rules are clunky and difficult.

That's because FASA, creator of Shadowrun, Earthdawn, Crimson Skies and Battletech, is no longer in business. FASA was closed down due to bankruptcy after a pair of crippling lawsuits, Microsoft bought the rights to do electronic games of all the above, the pen/paper end of the company was divided between Fanpro and Wizards of the Coast.

As such, the current Shadowrun is Fanpro property, and not half as good as FASA's rules were. I never got into 4th ed because of this, likewise I dropped out of Battletech when it became "Classic Battletech" so they could rape the IP for that abomination Dark Ages.

Yep, I knew all that.
