yeah we definitely should. if i get your idea correct you want a forum so we can vent about various problems like problems with the escapist or in our lives or games or whatnot. the only thing is it would attract trolls i think. so maybe if we had a cap on who could post. maybe you have to be around for a certain amount of time, or have to have a certain amount of posts or whatnot.

No I don't think we need it. We have a forum to communicate to each other, what do we need Ventrillo for?

it would be cool though cause we could get to know each other a little more personally rather than just recognizing a name or avatar here and there. i always like to make new freinds :-)

Maybe, but vent is a program for use in conjunction with MMO's and other videogames isn't it? I thought the main reason people go on vent is to organize guilds and take part in raids etc. While we could go on vent, what could we talk about that we couldn't talk about here? And if you do want to know someone personally then you could ask for their email, MSn etc.

Most of us have our screennames or Xbox Live tags on our profile, so if you want to make friends, use those (I know I added WlknContrdiction on Live but as he lives in a timezone completely opposite mine I don't see him much lol). Which also brings us to the "different time zones" issue. I think a voice chat thing is a little less private, you know? Like, I can't sit up in my room and have a voice chat about some of the things we discus on these boards because I have a really old house and my parents would hear everything, lol. I think it would also cost money and who would pay for it?

I'm a bit hesitant 'bout this voice chat thing. I mean, as Blaze said, I don't want my parents to hear some of the things said on these threads. Also, if we have voice chat, won't it mean that the loudest is the point that gets across, where as with words, everyone is on equal footing. (I literally mean that the ones who yell and scream have a possibility of ignoring those who speak softer and such)

My biggest concern is that if we got voice chat, then why would we type? That, and my privacy, both from my parents, and from you guys/gals.

I'm supportive, as long as nobody minds the horror of my voice, akin to taking an angry, wet cat and crushing it through a meat-grinder whilst dancing through a field of xylophones.

I like the idea. Mods can move troll's threads to the right forum that way. :)

It seems like a decent enough idea, though I'm not sure what we'd do with it and I don't want my voice to throw off all preconceptions you could've formed about me being mature.

Feh. It's a good idea, but you shouldn't let me on it. I'd hijack it for gaming antics. And yes, hiring a vent server costs money. So I think that's pretty much that out the window. Although I believe it is possible to set up a computer to work as a dedicated server, I doubt anyone is willing to put a comp aside for comms purposes.

it seems very meh. It would be nice bit I wouldn't really use it that much.

I see it as somewhat of a novelty. I agree with the above poster saying that with words, we are all on the same level, and anyone with the audacity to type all in caps could be ignored/banned. Although, on Vent, we'd be able to mute those whom will not follow the rules. If anything, it's somewhat pointless.

Then again, you did think of something on the car ride home; why don't you tell us what exactly you were thinking about when you conjured this up?

I'm against the voice server, but a forum to honk off at the world, there could be promise in that idea.

There's no point to having one. If you wanted to set up some IRC channel for, like, WoW Escapists or Call of Duty 4 Escapists, that would probably work a lot better than just a general channel here.

I find that with typing, it's more private (parent-wise), and I have more time to think about what I'm writing, so I can (hopefully) avoid saying something that would probably make the universe explode. And it wouldn't be awesome.

I imagine your voice to sound like Liam Neeson. Not that I think it does, but that I think it should.

I don't really like the idea of voice chat.

However, an internet chatroom would be nice, ala IRC or something. It'd be nice to have different flowing conversations outside of the normal forum format with you folks.

You realise that most people actually type like this elsewhere... What, it's just me?

I used to host a TS server once upon a time, and could do so again if there was enough interest in it.

Of course, I reserve the right to IP ban anyone acting like a smacktard.

Unless it's me.

How would you be excluded?

Oh..not really for it. I suffer from foot-in-mouth syndrome far more often when I talk than when I type. I like my backspace and edit buttons!

Don't have a computer mic yet, but I'm not against the idea. I will miss the edit button though...

Those worried about parents, use headphones, also you don't necessarily have to use it, so those worried about personal privacy didn't have to come on. I'm new here, so it would help me get to know people, I've just been using this site for news and occasionally reading forum posts for a few months now. My question would just be, who would pay for it? You can get a 25 person server for about 10$ a month, so it's not serious loss to anyone's pocket, but perhaps donations or some such could help pay for it.
Also, for those that claim they suffer from lack of oratory skills, is this not the best place to learn? Anonymity still exists on vent, all you hear is a voice, and through a VOIP program, so it is slightly distorted. I currently use a vent for a guild, and just to do whatever with friends online, such as play roleplaying games.
