As The Escapist seems to go up the rare path of which slowly gaining popularity while not selling out its main purpose yet (not letting you off the hook yet), I would like to say congratuations on the new look. Always a step forward, keep it up. Btw did any of yall get my suggestion for forum signatures?

Personaly I think the new front page doesn't look nearly as good as it used to, but it allows more acces to videos and that probably attracts more viewers then your newsfeed.

I also feel partial to the old media player, but it seems that you switched for buisness reasons and I dont really have any direct complaints about the new one once I get used to it. Well, except one minor thing you can probably tweak. I like the ability to rewatch a video after I have seen it once and this new player should have a restart button.

No restart? Oh.

I noticed the same problem with LoadingReadyRun's video software provider/host, Revver. Clicking Replay just starts the loading process again, instead of relying on precached data.

With regards the topic... Eh. It's not too different from the old style.

Also... Why does the forum occasionally switch between 24 hour and 12 hour? It's very odd and disconcerting.

It's actually a script that converts all the times to your local time zone. So sometimes you might see it before it has made the times "your time". Otherwise, you're just seeing everything as it was entered in GMT.

Our forums do actually have signatures, but they're turned off on The Escapist by editorial request. I wouldn't expect it to change.

VideoEgg is shutting down their video hosting service, so the change is out of all of our hands. Trust me, we would much rather not have had to change things either, or at least not with a looming deadline. We'll be tweaking the video player and the page layouts though.

You can add me to the requests not to turn it on.

On the new layout: I'm not sure what your resolution data looks like (who's running what), but personally, the new Video section pushes the News & Columns completely off the screen for me. And in my typical setup, I can't even see the label on the first video, just the pic. 1024*768 may be the minority, but very rarely on any site do I need to scroll, just to find primary content. But, please, whatever you do, don't lose the main issue display area. Especially not for the sake of idiots like me running pitiful resolutions.

*sigh* It's all been downhill since they got rid of the magazine style layout. [/old fart]

i know this isn't the place to post suggestions, but could you up the max Avatar size by about 10 pixels? the really sweet ones are just out of reach...

i posted here to see if anyone else finds my thoughts interesting

Why not take the avatar you want and shrink it by 10 pixels?

It looks a bit... cluttered. And although its great you're focusing on the videos and all that; there's more articles than videos, surely?

Ah, it did seem very sudden.
It's not quite as responsive as before, but it's shaping up.

I don't know if suggestions are being taken, let alone in this thread, but here I go anyway.
It'll probably be a huge amount of work, so I won't blame anyone if it doesn't get done, but how about going in the BBC website sort of direction, and making the 'panels' on the front page movable. So for example I could switch 'Featured Editorials' with 'News and Columns', if I preferred to see 'News and Columns' over 'Featured Editorials'.
But I agree, keep the 5 articles and the recently posted where they are. I like them there.
