There are many figures we pay respect to. The passed on, (Rest in Peace, Grandpa) everyday citizens, teachers, bosses...
Who are those whom you respect the most?

Out of Humans, I highly regard those in Emergency Response services, mostly Ambulances and Firetrucks.. I have extremely high respect to those who drive down the streets with flashing lights and loud nosies, knowing that their jobs mean trying as hard as humanly possible to save lives. Heck, the entirety of being a Firefighter is a friggen Escort Mission!

I hold respest for the SAS mostly because they don't get much respect from anyone else.

I too respect the Emergency Services, mostly Fire Fighters. It takes a lot of guts to walk into a burning building.

Besides the obvious, I too salute the SAS...and I'm American. Go away, national pride.

Pretty much those that sacrifice something big for someone else, or help/give without taking/getting something material in return. . Oh, and the SAS are awesome.

Military. Be it Army Navy, or Air Force.
You may wonder why the Marines aren't on the list. That's because they're just part of the Navy.
Yes we rub their face in it all the time.

Royal Flying Doctor Service.

In our country, this service goes to all the remote places that don't have access to health care facilities like hospitals and administer first aid, if that doesn't help, they fly them to the nearest town.

While the marines work with the navy on their ships and the like. They are technically seperate branches but I don't want to start an argument with you.

For me though I would say Armed forces THEN Emergency services. I wouldn't put Firefighters at the top of my list though because police are just all around disrespected and their job is depressing because almost nobody is happy to see them. And in my town all firefighters do is follow the police like the bullies best friend that agrees with then repeats everything the bully says.

i would have to say the average joe doing the dirty jobs. they do the jobs everyone else wouldnt touch. and they do it to keep OUR lives confortable. without these men and women we would live in a hell hole. i would also like to say any man or woman in the armed services. it takes guts no matter who you are to put on a uniform and walk into bullets

i like how all you guys diss the cops but for me the most respected is the police or in my country the RCMP or mounties...whatever you want to call them because they still do theyre job even with all the disrespect and hate towards and the world would be alot different without em

Yeah, I really respect the police. I mean, sure there are stupid laws they have to enforce and some of them can be dickwads, but when it comes down to it, everyday they're out there risking their life so that those who rape, murder or steal from others can be brought to justice.

This lady I know. She's pretty much the best person living.
Also, most directors.
And anyone who displays a lot of patience, generally.
And people who wear tuxedos.

Firefighters arn't even paid money here in Austria, they get my extra respect for doing the job.

I pay respect to my teachers for putting up with us.

This thread is way too serious to bring up my crack elitie team of Mole-person hunters.

To say the least, I respect anyone who goes out of their own way to help somebody else.

Great series (I especially liked El Pollo Diablo ;), but personally it feels like Richard has become a Mary Sue in the later books.

Anyway, I hate to be a "me too" I have to say I have great respect for those who nurture and protect life.

I met Ron Jeremy... and he's an ass.

I was 17, heading to a friend's concert at a club in Toledo. They were playing, Ron Jeremy was there for publicity I guess. I buy my ticket and wait for my friend. Mr. Jeremy approaches.
RJ: "Hey, you guys should sign up for the wet t-shirt contest."
Me: "Uh, no thanks."
RJ: "Oh come on, it'll be fun."
Me: "Really, no thanks."
RJ: "Give me one good reason you shouldn't."
Me: "I'm seventeen."
Long pause.
RJ: "You should still enter the wet t-shirt contest."

The argument didn't end until my friend from the band came up to steal me away from the conversation. Ugh.

Anyways, I have a lot of respect for teachers. Especially the teachers from my high school. They deal with a lot of really stupid kids on an every day basis and must have the patience of a saint, because I know I'd turn violent after the end of one day of dealing with those kids.

My mom. Not just because of the obvious, but also because she teaches "special" kids for a living. And by "special", I mean 15-16 and still can't read.

I respect:

Cops: Dealing with the most annoying parts of society ALL DAY EVERY DAY. "Cops are assholes!" Yeah whatever, you would be too if you were one.

Firefighters (in cities): I respect urban firefighters more than their suburban counterparts. Why? Because they're in the shit every day. Suburban firefighters pretty much use their job to pick up skanks in bars before heading off to another rousing day of watching TV and having chili cook offs at the firehouse.

EMTs: GO GO GO GOTTA SAVE PEOPLE. Its noble, and cool.

Teachers: My mom is a high school english teacher. She goes out of her way every day to help kids and works 15 hour days routinely. The amount of crap teachers put up with is fucking amazing.

Teachers and Police, most people reckon hate them just for doing their job. They deserve respect for doing their jobs when the people they help don't realise they are getting helped.

I respect those in our armed forces. I have a brother currently stationed in Iraq, and a brother in the Marines. (I trained for the Corps. but was injured and sent home) Other then them...I'd have to say that I respect the firefighters. Each time they save a life, they risk their own.

I respect the altruistic, the courageous and the gentle. A person's profession actually has very little to do with the matter. Usually people work only because they have to make money and/or because they want respect or authority. Sometimes people seek some sort of personal validation through their professions, but usually it only leads to frustration, because reality is very good at spoiling our fun and making us look like a bunch of fools.

I respect animal rescue workers, and the people who go to schools and teach children how to respect animals such as snakes, spiders, and other "creepy crawlies" and educate whatever fears they may have of them away. Paramedics, police, firefighters, nurses, doctors.
