Hmm...

I recently saw a movie I really liked. I forget the title though. It was about the ultimate bank robbery and all the robbers dressed everyone as either painters or as graffiti artists. Could have gone either way.

I can't decide. Edward Scissor Hands was funny with a dark touch to it, but that's the only one I can really think of. Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away were also good...

Probably a tie between all of those.

AHH! I FORGOT STARWARS! A part of my Nerd pride just vaporized as if it were a bad explosion in the original star trek series.

Oh wait, now it's back.

It's a tie between Legend of the Drunken Master and Full Metal Jacket. Both of them are just so goddamn great from beginning to end. There are some movies that I need to be in a certain mood to watch, but I can watch either one of these at any given time no matter what else is going on.

The bank robbery movie with people in painter's gear you're thinking of is Inside Man. Really good film.

Excellent choice sir! My wife and I have it on DVD, which made for interesting viewing. Whenever I watched it on TV, the translations for Corey Feldman's dialogue were edited out, so that section never made any sense.

I flit between Don't Look Now and Dr Strangelove

Today it's Don't Look Now - an absolute masterpiece from every conceivable angle, it's composition is so flawless it would probably work as silent movie.

Pure genius.

Somehow it doesn't seem fair to include Star Wars in mine, since I really couldn't be sure whether I was voting for watching the film itself, or the memory of watching the film.

The Shortlist:

The Life of Brian
Magnolia
Mulholland Drive
2001: A Space Odyssey
Silence of the Lambs
Clerks

And the award goes to...

Mulholland Drive. I watched it for the first time four or five years ago, and once it was finished, I just thought, 'I don't get that at all'. Then about half an hour later, I decided I wanted to see it again, and did so. I've never done that with a film before, let alone one that is two-and-a-half hours long. Several viewings later, I think I get most of it now, but there are still some gaps. There's something special about a film that lets you do the thinking.

Heheh, that's funny. For some reason, I thought Mulholland Drive was, like, some stupid chick flick or something. But I just looked it up on imdb and it looks good, I'll have to check it out.

some of my fave movies:
(aside from all the givens, SW, LOTR, etc.)
Boondock Saints
The Departed
No Country for Old Men
Office Space
Grandma's Boy
Beerfest

Goodfellas.

God I love that film, yet I found the Godfather very tedious which was strange.

Desperado, El Mariachi and Iron Man. The first two I've loved for a long time, just the concept is fantastic and original. Iron Man on the other hand I grew up with (the comics) and when they made a movie this faithful, well it was only natural.

I'll have to say Eternal Sunshine too. I'm really looking forward to Kaufmanns new film "Synecdoche, NY". Other than that I'm a gigantic fan of Twin Peaks.

Oh and there's Fight Club of course. One of Palahniuks other novels, "Choke", has been adapted too recently. Due to release in september.

Umm, For comedy i would go with Shaun of the Dead

Action: Saving private Ryan, a brilliant movie

Not much of a horror fun, but if pressed I would go for The Shining

Drama: Torn between road to perdition and the Shawshank redemption

Also, goodfellas was an excellent movie, and another two of my favourites are layer cake and The prestige, both excellent

Pfft. Step up and pick one. Fence sitters.

Lots of movies I like, lots of movies are probably better, but I think I have to go with The Princess Bride, because at heart I'm a sap - it resonates with me somehow.

Mine is Snatch. The greatest movie of all time, I have seen it close to 20 times now and it's still not old.
