When God closes a door he opens a window or so the saying goes I don't know if the Aztecs said something about 2012 I do know that 2012 is the end of the Mayan sun calender (which goes on for 5000 years) 2012 is also when some scientists think the ice capes are going to melt so maybe the world as we know it will end but I do not think that all life will suddenly stop existing.

EDIT. I don't think a lot of people here know what the Mayan sun calender is to put it simply it's a calender like our yearly calender it resets it self but it does not cover our world but our sun which does apparently have it's own path I don't know it's some thing like that the Mayans were very clever and did do astronomy.
