What Band / Artist's actually sound good live in concert?
Eg, Linkin Park are gold, but they sound like absoulte crap live (still worth seeing)
Guns'n'Roses sound great live in concert.

Any thoughts?

Shania Twain sounds fairly decent live.
Tim McGraw puts on one of the best shows I have seen and he sounds spectacular! He has to seeing as his wife (Faith Hill) sounds like a monotonic robot.

Muse, Radiohead, David Fonseca, Rita Red Shoes, Portishead.
Linkin park based on my experience only on a good day... But they try hard and is worth it at least once.

Muse were aweful in 2006, but amazing in 2007. Radiohead are pure gold live.
My other favourites are Queens Of The Stone Age, The Hotel Cafe Tour, Hermano and some others.
But everyone should see japanese band Mono. I couldn't close my mouth for the whole lenght of the show. I was literally blown away.

Bruce Springsteen is great, David Bowie puts on an amazing show, Van Halen kinda sucks(a bunch of trying to be hip old guys with no energy), Metallica is pretty godd (and I'm NOT a fan, but they put on a good show).

STARS sounds better live than on their albums as do The New Pornographers and the Flamming Lips are incredible live.

Foreigner/Lou Gramm.

Nothing, I mean nothing sounds better than a concert hall filled with people screaming-singing Jukebox Hero at the top of their lungs and still being drowned out by Lou Gramm's oldschool voice. Same goes for all Foreigner-related songs, but JBH is definitely my favourite song of all time.

Rush. Only concert I've been to, and they sound awesome. Exactly like the albums, only with a few concessions to make it easier on Geddy Lee's throat.

I could've seen Metallica two times and both shows were so packed with people that the sound actually travelled too slow for the pictures on the stagescreens, so I went out.
Never seen Springstreen or Bowie unfortunatelly, but Mark Knopfler was pretty good. Not as good as his old band probably but pretty good.
I hate Guns & Roses ever since they threw one of my favourite bands, the Eagles Of Death Metal, off stage and called them Pigeons Of Shit Metal. Pricks.

You call that awesome?

Ween is the best live band I've ever seen. No warm-up band, no BS. They went on stage, played for 3 hours, went off for a couple of minutes, and usually do one encore song.

Freaking. Awesome.

Yes, Rush is awesome live. Their chemistry live is amazing. Also, Foo Fighters and Our Lady Peace Rock live.

Ween is one of my favourite bands ever, but they rarely play in europe.

The Tragically Hip, Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Rush, and Bowie all have my votes for 'sounding good live'.

Tool are awesome live... In fact they're one of the best bands I've ever seen... as are Dredg. Their live album (Live at the Fillmore) is actually spot on and sounds more like a studio album (I've seen them live aswell and they're awesome) than anything.

I hate to say it, but I have to disagree. I saw Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance in concert and I thought they were amazing. Linkin Park sounded almost exactly like their CD's and the show itself was intense. My Chemical Romance I thought would have sucked by they were amazing too!

Other bands I've seen that were surprisingly good:

Wyclef: even though I like his music, I was worried about a concert...but it turned out to be amazing.
Garth Brooks:I had never really listened to his music but got a free ticket. 3 1/2 hours later I was hooked.
Reel Big Fish: Again, wasn't really a big fan but had a great time.

The Prodigy and Faithless are bloody amazing live. They sound awesome and their stage presence is fantastic. I also recomment the Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World and the Red Hot Chili Peppers (however the Chilis have been known to have off days, especially if Anthonys voice isn't on the level)

Gogol Bordello.

If you only ever go to see one gypsy ska punk show in your life, make it theirs. You'll feel like your head was bashed in by a brick of pure joy.

Pink Floyd. They sound amazing either way!

When it comes to Linkin Park. I thought High Voltage sounded so much better live than the actual song.

Iron Maiden as to be the Greatest Live act..ever. Not only is the music phenomenal but the stage setup is a pure work of art.

Rush is also pretty good live

yeah wEEn rules live, long live the boognish, last time i saw them they played for a good 3 hours, i was sick and had a comfy couch to sit on, so i could just sit there and listen to them play, the semi-delirium actually made them sound better

it's a double edged sword, sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes bad

it's when they deviate too far from the album sound it's bad, that means they are over produced, garbage is a great example of it, great on album, REALLY crappy live, guess that happens when you have a band full of producers

Menomena are a good band live, if your one of the few that got hooked on their music anyway.

Stole my contribution!
Saw them a few weeks back, my brains done blew out the back of my head. For as old as that guy is the only thing he wasn't doing was backflips.

The Black Keys. No competition to that in my opinion. Just 2 guys on a stage doing their thing. Though I have to admit, when they play one of their slower songs, you sometimes just want Dan to play some more awesome guitar riffs again, and Pat pounding those drums. I've yet to see them since the release of their newest cd, and that one is more up-tempo, so I can't wait to see them again this november ^^

The Prodigy, The Living End, Muse are my three best bands to have seen live. Perhaps my most surprising great gig was Enter Shikari at Leeds last year. Those guys were awesome.

Though I've always thought their CDs were pretty 'meh', I have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Kasabian live.

Nine Inch Nails - Highly cheorographed mayhem (at least the last few tours)
Tool - Visually amazing to go along with the high standard of audio that they set for themselves
Ramms+ein - As a poster earlier said "Fire"
Korn - Fun, because they had a ton of fun (before second gituarist left, greatest hits tour)
Mushroom Head - For a small, and I mean small, venue, they did really well. Sound was good and had good interaction with the fans.

Bands I've seen in Festivals that didn't have they own visuals, but had good sound (for a festival):
Soulfly
Mudvayne
Taproot
Reveille
Pantera (granted they didn't use visuals at all)

KMFDM is pretty awesome in concert, although I've only been to one of their more recent concerts.

Reel Big Fish sounds spectacular live. their live album should be entitled something like, "Our live album is better than your regular album."

Muse and Enter Shikari are face-meltingly brilliant live. Face. Meltingly. Brilliant.
