I for one am touched by the sensitive treatment that the OP gave the death of Mr Carlin. |

i still wonder if he got anyone to ruin anyone's childhood when they found out that mr conductor could make a sailor blush with some of his bits. that was one of his dreams. i still remember laughing really hard when i found out he was mr conductor on shiny time station, still wonder how he got the job doing that. |

May He who Christened the "Seven Words" rest in peace. A great comic and a great man: he will be missed. |

it would be the other way around, Bill got his shtick from George who in turn borrowed from Lenny Bruce |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2322 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | Oh fuck me, I saw the news, I saw the front page of MSN, and it was only "George Carlin's Legacy" - NO ONE BROUGHT UP HIS DEATH!!! Hey, "legacy" can mean a lot of things >_> What the fuck though!? I saw him on T.V., and the internet, and the reporters never mentioned anything about him dieing in the first place, I thought it was just some montage or "appreciation" of him cuz it was his birthday or something - hey you can't blame me, George is a big part of U.S. culture. and now I find out he's dead, seriously, what the hell? When Heath Ledger died it was in headlines everywhere saying "Heath Ledger found Died" - when James Brown dies, "James Brown Passed Away", when Carlin dies, the headlines are extremely vague. I'm not belittling heath or brown but, I would have expected something more informative. -_- man, the guy was a great comedian, I didn't like it when he got "preachy" and started losing his train of thought, and forgot that he had a routine where he would tell jokes and not try to convert me to atheism, but even in those wild rants there would still be some of the most quotable lines in the history of the english language. Losing Carlin just doesn't feel right though, he's such an icon, you may not have known the name but you've heard the voice, you recognize the face, and hell, he probably had a huge impact on the way you see the world, ESPECIALLY in the states! What am I going to do now? Watch Carlos Mencia? ;_; |

He was big in the States. I mostly rcognise him from movies he has been in. |
Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 8 Dec 2007 | The man was a modern day jester, using humor to tell the truths that people don't want to hear. He will be missed. |

Personally I think the coverage was more appropriate considering his take on death. The riff starts about a minute into the clip. |

I wonder if they are going to honor his funeral wish too, he said he wanted to be blown up on a pile of explosives or thrown out of a helicopter. |

just watch Ari Shaffir and George Lopez cause that's where carlos got his jokes from |

Yeah I realized that after my "initial freakout" (which was that post above)
I wouldn't be surprised if he got his wish or not. "Either side" is understandable lol - I see nothing wrong with any of his choices though >_> it's not like we can't give him some kind of memorial anyway after it anyway. I just hope we don't turn it into some kind of "sideshow attraction" - it's still a funeral, despite how "awesome" it is.
That's why I have such a hard time watching him, not only does he recycle his old stuff but most of it isn't even his... |
Paperboy Posts: 27 Joined: 28 May 2008 | The first time I saw George Carlin was when he was a part of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends. Is that weird?! By the time I was older and realized he was a comic and I heard his act, I was shocked. Shocked and laughing my ass off. |
