Anonymous Source Posts: 2 Joined: 10 May 2008 | I've heard (though never tried) that a little salt helps, as well as socks. Meh, they seem like they'd only make minor changes to me, but worth a try. Tylenol PM always helps... ;) |

Beat Writer Posts: 176 Joined: 21 Jun 2008 | Well, my bed is a couch in the living room so I play games and watch TV on it too. I really need to get a mattress... |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 740 Joined: 16 Apr 2008 | I find that taking a shower just before bed is what generally keeps me awake. The thing that gets me to sleep is a nice cool bedroom with heavy blankets in the bed. Drink a glass of water after brushing your teeth and lay in bed for a little while before trying to pass out. It's good to keep your mind entirely blank. Relax your feet. Relax your calves. Relax your thighs. Relax your waist. Abdomen. Chest. Arms. By this time, you should be capable of relaxing your brain. Just fall asleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...zzz |

Muckraker Posts: 337 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | Or do the opposite of what Duck said... and use some energy... Avoid caffeine after 12, avoid food for a bit before bed... I'd say maybe read a 'mild' book in bed for a half an hour or so before trying to pass out... Nothing too exciting that will keep you turning the page, just something interesting or a book you're trying to finish that's a killer during the day... Other then that, a lot of the above look really good!! Good luck!! |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 764 Joined: 13 Dec 2007 | Usually whenever I get insomnia, it comes from excitement (ie, something good is going to happen the next day and I stay up thinking about it), or nostalgia ("oh man, those were good days. I wish I could relive them."). Try getting up early the next day and not sleeping until night. That just might do the trick. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1240 Joined: 8 Apr 2008 | Don't "try" to sleep until you feel both physically and mentally tired. On the opposite end, if you do, don't convince yourself to stay up "a little longer" |

My reccomendation is to simply relax and think pleasant things, like kittens (that are not covered in spikes), animusic, the GO! Tema's music, how awesome it would be to have your own Combine Depot, and other things that make you feel all fuzzy inside. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 879 Joined: 1 Jun 2008 | My advice is to live with it. Just don't sleep. Too many people think of insomnia as a condition; it's not. It's a f#cking life style. Right now it's 5 in the morning where I am. I woke up at 3 in the morning. After going to sleep at 2:30 in the afternoon yesterday. I'll probably be up until 2 in the morning today. It keeps my enemies guessing. Alternately, if you work or have to be somewhere or just don't want to become a weird nocturnal subhuman abomination like myself (trust me, it's worth it) than I suggest valerium root. It works, its natural and it actually tastes pretty good. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 119 Joined: 24 Jun 2008 | Don't look at your clock when you're trying to get to sleep. Limit the amount of caffiene you drink or quit for best results. (You actually go through withdrawel during sleep if you're addicted enough) |
Paperboy Posts: 18 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | avoiding caffeine after 12 is the best recommendation so far. Or give it up entirely for a few days, you'll be knackered, which is kinda the idea i guess. |

Really? It's the exact opposite for me - a shower before bed, and I fall asleep before I know it. Different stroke for different folks... |

I see what you did there. Panamahahahaa |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1649 Joined: 29 Nov 2007 | B-12 vitamins, the nice pink ones. Down two of those and you'll be unconscious for six hours. Highly recommend not operating heavy machinery after you do it. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1051 Joined: 28 May 2008 | A spot of simple meditation can work wonders for just clearing your mind that might help if your insomnia is stress related or anything. You could of course just watch the first 45 minutes of "The Hulk". (Not the new one that was awesome lol) |

The words you are looking for are "exercise" and let people's mind run from there, standard exercise works too. |
