Some favs are Linkin park, Zebrahead, Brand New, Disturbed, Foo Fighters, The Killers, Grinspoon, RHCP, Avenged Sevenfold, Blink 182, Coldplay, Muse, The Offspring, Papa Roach, Seether, Stroke 9, Sum 41, Taking Back Sunday, Three Days Grace, Weezer. Not entirely sure as to what genre my taste falls into... |

I gotta have something to counterweight the badass beats and rocking out so I don't get overamped and kill like 80 people. lol edit- oh, and Rammstein, LOTS of Rammstein. |

You also have very good music taste. I like you too. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1168 Joined: 6 Jun 2008 | I listen to music, not the poor excuses for harmonic constructs covered by lyrics that somehow became popular. He he, I'm a harsh bastard I know, and not very specific. Be satisfied by me saying: "If an artist focuses on lyrics, the result will be auditory crap." This rule has exceptions, the only one's I've seen are where the intent of the lyrics is to be funny (credits songs for Portal and Gears of War) or ocassionally a poem being sung (Greensleeves). So what I listen to mostly has no words, principly video game soundtracks (Halo, Gears of War, Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Prince of Persia, etc.) |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 586 Joined: 19 May 2008 | My prime choices are: out of most most them i prefer the music over lyrics. So many songs I have heard that have had wonderful music but crappy lyrics. I find that it takes a lot more talent and thought to pull of a musical number with no lyrics but lets the song tell the story itself. This is a prime reason i love game, movie soundtracks, they in themselves tell the story. and whoever invented hip hop should go die, seriously just DIE!! |

Copy Clerk Posts: 113 Joined: 31 Mar 2008 | I've yet to find a genre that I dislike without exception. I can always find something I like in any kind of music, and I hope that continues. My theory is that any band, regardless of how much I may dislike them, is capable of releasing one song that I'll enjoy. I don't believe I've been proven wrong on this yet. As far as favourite bands go, the exact list will tend to vary by the day, but I'll always be a big fan of things like Lagwagon, Silver Sun, Aerosmith, Mono, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Breeders... the list goes on. And on. Aaaaaand on. But on a regular day, I can veer from cheesy chart pop to death metal, via everything in between and a quick journey into the oft-cited left field where all the bizarre stuff comes from. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 67 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | I like something from pretty much every genre in existence. Most of what I listen to fits into electronic or rock, but there is so much diversity within those two categories that that doesn't really tell you anything, does it? It's like saying I like meat and vegetables. For this reason, it's a lot easier to list the genres I don't like than the ones I do, because there are fewer. So here goes: What I don't like. * Most modern pop music [I like a lot of 80s pop music, though] There you have it.
You are contradictory. That's something like saying you love rock but rock and roll should never have existed. Are you unaware that hip hop music and rap are (more or less) one and the same? |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 586 Joined: 19 May 2008 | nope to me they are two different genres, hence them being named differently. I'd rather not get into it all, since i don't got the time, but SOME rap mean very very little. I just hate pop artists, enough said. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 465 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | I love me my Rock. I like the ocassional Metal song as long as it's not screaming random crap, and a race to see who can break their guitar fastest. It's a rather big competition between the Rhythm Guitarist and the Lead Guitarist. |

Not really, as a very ad-hoc explanation, rapping - and, therefore, rap - is basically just the vocal technique, while hip hop is the music itself. It takes many different forms and a lot of different sub-genres have evolved. Besides the mainstream stuff, we're talking: -early electro Personally, I like some early hip hop (like Eric B. and Rakim) and some of the alternative and instrumental hip hop of today. Gorillaz, Dan the Automator, Deltron 3030, DJ Shadow, and Dr. Octagon are a few examples.
If by that you mean travesties like Soulja Boy, I agree completely. |
Muckraker Posts: 332 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | Radiohead is awesome, Led Zeppelin is great as well. But some of my favorite songs are featured in Wes Anderson movies. Wes has an amazing way of giving perspective to the music with the screne, rather than to the scene with the music. Quentin Tarantino does a nice job of this also, but Wes is better. |

(Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Poison, Kiss, AC/DC...) Angry or sad: Trance (Trance Wave, SinSonic, DarK NebuLa) Happy or excited: J-Pop / J-Rock (whatever is playing on Kawaii-Radio at the moment) |

I do have a guilty pleasure playing an old rare PS2 game called:E-jay Clubworld, where you can mix tracks of various genres.I found it after having gone through both frequency and amplitude(even though the latter was based towards more mainstream audience). |

I like classical, myself, but there are a few rock groups I like. Mostly classic rock, but a few slightly more recent ones:
Talking Heads (if anyone here has seen True Stories, more power to you. And if not, see it pal, see it.)
They Might Be Giants
Weird Al Yankovic
There are a modicum of songs I like, but not many by any particular artist apart from the above three.
