Though it was of course going to be entertaining for any fan of the show, just like how a wrestling fan would enjoy Nacho Libre more than most people. Well actually, some of them might not like it because they consider it a disgrace to wrestling; as might fans say the same about The Simpsons movie in comparison to the series. People are just picky. Back on Futurama: Well I loved the series, though I never really thought it as a great satirical cartoon compared to other ones, like South Park specifically. I haven't gotten to see the movies either, but still I'd like them over nothing. (I paraphrased) |

Firefly to Serenity, there was a good (short) series turned into a good movie. But of coarse, everything is a matter of opinion. As to Futurama, even though my pic is of the awesome Dr. Farsworth, I didn't care too much for Bender's Big score and haven't bothered with the new one. Yes, they sold out. |

Gone Gonzo  Posts: 2249 Joined: 20 Dec 2007   | I swear the movies try to do too much at once, not to mention that it doesn't take advantage of the whole "movie" thing so it makes you feel like you are just watching a "long episode". Still, the movie (only seen Big Score, haven't even heard of the second one) was just so straightforward and never built up any of the humor so all the jokes just felt bland and had only a few funny moments, it was like reading CAD or something. I guess I'll finish up my Boondocks Season 2 before I watch that second movie, but it sounds like another flop. |

That's not a case of good show gone great movie. That's a case of kickawesome show gone EPIC movie. Me? I like the Futurama movies. You have to take them as the Simpsons movie, as they are built with the same idea. Matt Groenig said he didn't view the Simpson's movie as a movie, so much as an extended episode of The Simpsons. And taken as such, it's a triumph. I think it's just the same with Futurama. Often times the show tried to squeeze too much into a single half hour and it felt a little cramped, and the movies are a good pace for the show. |

I was laughing my ass off at 'beast with...' until it actually got into the story, the first 30 minutes or so was just like an episode but I really didn't like the story. In terms of money grabbing I would have to disagree because they are making these 4 films to see if there's the popularity for a new series. |

It is much better than the simpsons movie or any of the family guy movies or anything at all similar i have seen. I have not yet seen the new one. |

The imagination song is difficult. I personally think what's worse than TV series to movies, are movies to TV series. Unless it is a specific series, which I am interested in. Like I heard they are coming out with a live-action Star Wars series in 2009, exploring other characters in the series. That would be cool to me. |

They have the occasional hilarious pop culture or political joke but it is revolting crude humor most of the time and not tasteful good crude humor like the Monty Python boys. If they focused more on political and social commentary rather than immature jokes they would be much better. This is coming from a 16 yea old boy and not a grumpy old gamer btw. |

As with TV to Movie Movies, i love Serenity, found The South Park Movie to be awesome back in the day and loved the Cowboy Bebop Movie despite being a prolonged, but still very good episode. As such, i think you cant really say that any adaption sucks or rocks |
Paperboy Posts: 49 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | They do go for the freak-out factor quite a bit, but a lot of the time it is in relation to political or pop culture humor. Thinking of a few episodes that were just riddled with the stuff... Oh, the Scientology episode. Then there was the Chimpokomon episode, which made a nice shot at a common cliche'. Then one of the better ones, was the Atheist/Nintendo Wii episode. They go deeper into political humor far more than most other satirical cartoons do -- but it gets botched a lot by the off-putting jokes used for shock value. Like when Britani Spear's head was blown off, but she lived and no one treated her differently, which wasn't good to begin with, anyways. |

Imaginationland... ImaginaAAtionland... ImAGINationLand... Yeah, kinda hard... Alien Nation -> Alien Nation. Good movie, good series. They didn't keep the same actor as Sykes, but once you make the switch, it's still a damn good show. Firefly -> Serenity, epic show, great movie. All the original cast transfered over, going movie to show it's acceptable to switch some, but never show to movie, so more than anything it's that which made Serenity so good. Starship Troopers -> Roughnecks... ST wasn't at all accurate to the novel, but as a film unrelated to the book, it WAS a kickass movie. Roughnecks is the compromise between the film most people know, and the book some have read, and really served to connect the two well. |
Muckraker  Posts: 307 Joined: 4 Feb 2008 | I do like them. I do agree though, that the series has lost some of the satirical humor, replacing it with referiental humor. But hey, it's these or nothing. And if these sell well enough, maybe we'll get Futurama on tv again. Wouldn't that be great. |

Okay, so after watching the 2 new movies of the Futurama series : Benders Big Score and The Beast With A Billion Backs, I have mixed thoughts on what this series gives me. I am a huge fan of the series when it was actually slated to television, but now that it has become a DVD series I can't help but think the cartoon that I loved so much, has lost some of its humor. The jokes in the movies are bland at most points, completely juvenile most of the time, and have lost all depth and relevance to the real world. That sharply satirical humor in the television series was what made this cartoon so popular, when it actually touched on issues of our culture, in a setting 1000 years in the future.
I just wanted to know what most people thought about the movies thus far, whether you hated them/liked them and why, and also if you find the same issues with the humor as I do.
