Mudvayne has their new one coming out July 16th, Slipknot on August 26th and Trapt on August 5th.

Anyone else pumped?

They seem so far away. *Crys*

EDIT: They'll most likely be leaked early anyways. *Jumps for joy*, not too long to wait now.

Damn, I was gonna say slipknot (all hope is gone), and I supose the only other albums I show an interest in are:
.Dope - No regrets (delayed)
.MCR
.Greenday

I know! I'm not sure if the Mudvayne one is true, because they still haven't released a title for it. Although, I guess stuff that like isn't rare.

Trent Reznor didn't notify anyone about The Slip when he released that. I didn't even see it coming.

Unfortunately I agree. Year Zero and The Slip were major disappointments. Ghosts was good since most of the songs had the older, darker sound. With Teeth wasn't so bad though. More like the Fragile would be great.

even the fragile was bordering on bad, i've listened to them since pretty hate machine was released, i've thought everything since the fragile was kinda iffy

the year zero remix album was pretty good tho

Hate to change the subject, but no upcoming album interests me at all (and rarely does) not because I don't go for any of it but because there's so very much old stuff I'm more interested. I'm trying to collect the classic bands of early metal and hard rock. It's a monolithic project, so I don't have much money for more recent stuff.

That's why you download, Saskwach :P

There's A LOT of classic stuff. A lot of it isn't bad, and it makes me angry when people are like CLASSIC IS AWESOME I LOVE ACDC and etc. All the mainstream back in the day.

Alkaline Trio's album dropped recently, yet I haven't had the urge to acquire it too urgently given that their last album turned out to be rather a disappointment.

Still looking forward to Slipknot's new one, even though it'll never re-live the glory of their debut.

I know it's now become cool to knock on them, but DragonForce's album looks likely to be much more of the same from them, and as a result will be darned good, and even better live.

I hate those people, too; I just happen like a lot of music from that time but I don't have a blanket love of the stuff.
As for downloading: I don't look down at it, but it's something I don't do myself.

Yea lol. It's good, but it's not the best. Just like the mainstream modern music.

Speaking of which.. anyone that likes metal should look into Silent Civilian. Not many people know about them, but I love them so much! Another new album I can't wait for :S
I just don't know when they're even going to release another :\

Silent Civilian have another coming out? Rebirth of the Temple was great, can't wait for their next one then. Just wish some of them would reform Spineshank again though:( I liked them more than Silent Civilian though they are good in their own right.

I hope they do. Lol. I haven't heard anything about it, but they're still together. I think I read on Wiki that they've been doing some covers songs. For all we know, those may be on a new album.

Spineshank was pretty good, but I like SC more :P

Speaking of NIN, I'm going to their concert on the 26th here in Seattle, WA. I'm fucking stoked for that because I haven't been able to see them since 2005. I'm only missing a few halos to complete the set. I have halo twelve and the original halo nine, which are both hard to find now.

As for waiting for new albums, I only truly wait for a few bands anymore. NIN and Tool are the ones that I have to get as soon as possible. Other bands that I like getting their albums are Pearl Jam, Slipknot, Ramms+ein, and Mudvayne. Too many bands that I've really liked are no longer together or band members left (died). Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Korn, and the Murder City Devils are all bands that I liked, but are no longer (I realize Korn is still around, but they aren't the same).

Personally I'm happy to hear Black Stone Cherry are working on a new album. Heard them play Blind Man live (one of their new tracks) and I liked it a lot. Their first album was probably the best slice of rock I heard last year.

As for other albums, I hear Slash is working on a solo album which I will be buying, plus there's Chinese Democracy if that ever sees the light of day. Apparently the album itself is finished but if thats the case I do wonder why I haven't seen any pigs flying yet.

Yay! Of course it still breaks my heart that I missed not only this one but their Matter of Life and Death tour. I love to bits every song on that album and they played THE WHOLE THING live. *cries*

I freaking love that album... I love it so much I downloaded the Rock band tracks for it straight away and went on to find all the bonus tracks I don't get over here online.

I totally can't wait for the new slipknot one and I wouldn't mind finding out if Hot Action Cop are ever gonna finish their second album... they've been working on it for like forever.

I was surprised by the Slip as well. Ghosts is by far the best album i have hear though. You think they will be touring in other continents after North America?

No one else pumped for the Cure? I am more excited because it means they will probably come to AUS next year than the fact they have a new album.

I listen to all sorts of music. I generally listen to it when I want something pumping and violent. also once you've been to a metal gig normal gigs just don't feel right. I like my moshpits to be full of a 50 year old hairy biker guys punching and head butting you and not 12 year old girls stamping on your feet then apologising...

having said that the hippy fests I go to are brilliant and I would do anything to see the Dresden Dolls live despite the fact neither really play any true metal (flogging molly playing beautiful days though so it's pretty close :D)

Damn, he's stumped us.
To answer seriously, I wouldn't have a good answer beyond "just because". Luckily, that's what all answers come down to anyway.
Anywho, here are my opinions.
1. It's very energetic music. If you don't "get" this then all the following reasons won't sway you, so just stop reading. Edit: This isn't meant to be mean but it reads like it. Sorry about that.
2. It's often very complex music (the good stuff, that is). Granted, all other genres can be complex but not many other popular ones are so upfront about it. The bass pumps it, the drummer hits everything in sight, and the guitar goes totally bonkers playing all kinds of silly riffs and solos. All metalheads like to be dumbstruck by the sheer virtuosity of the players on stage. For the last three albums Iron Maiden has had a bass and three guitars. Three! Making good music for three guitars is hard.
I have other reasons but they get progressively more subjective and I'm sure someone could easily say "This rapper/rock band/jazz musician/electro-pop group does that too". Short and sweet: no other music gets me playing air guitar and banging my head to the beat like metal does.
Having said that, I have my beefs with the genre.
1. A fair part of metal is a bleeding edge obsessed with being harder, louder, less musical, more crunchy. I will never like this- I shudder to call it- music.
2. The themes/tones are a bit restricted. Death, war, the occult, religion, sexuality, anger, and variations on that. Basically, it's a very negative genre and while that's cool, I wouldn't look to it for, say, an ode to country living.

Screaming tends to get emotion across more than just singing as well.

And yea, like Saskwach said, it's more aggressive. Gets the blood pumping. Adrenaline rushing.

As well, he's also right about the negative attitudes. But having musical taste just limited to one genre isn't healthy, so you have to have a lot of other stuff like Radiohead, Incubus, Blue October, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc in your playlists as well :D

Oh, and you'd be surprised how good most soft songs are when they're made by metal bands.
