• Merging the searches into one multi-purpose search. [We have other plans]
• Are we allowed to know what these plans are?

what? and have all the suspence be ruined?

Here's one, why do some posters comment on someones grammar and spelling and not the actual topic?

It's in the guidelines that we should use english properly and we enjoy the words of people to be ledgeble, if we let grammer and spelling slip then "l337" may eventually become the norm and no-one wants that.

I just got a PM for one of the forum competitions. Dandy, great idea. But when I get to the entry page and read that it is for US citizens only I wonder why it got dumped on me. How hard would it be to add a country check so us internationals don't get notices like this that don't really bear any meaning on us?

I wanted to make the very same suggestion, did a search for this topic and see now that it has already been suggested, so I'll just second this and bump it.

*edit:

Also, maybe a 'suggest a news item' link somewhere? Though PM'ing a contributor works, it may be more efficient to make a centralized spot.

I suggest explaining (shortly) why a thread has been locked whenever one is locked. Transparency is important.

Virgil has already sent a response about this.

Huh. I never knew the Escapist spams. You'd think they's just post it on the front page without stuffing our mailboxes full of crap.

Well, for one thing, the country in your profile isn't a definitive setting. For example, I don't think wilsonscrazybed is actually living in Vatican City. I could be wrong though, it is the internet, he could even be the pope.

Second, the game (and related badge) is open to everyone regardless of location, and I wanted to make sure that nobody was complaining come next Friday that it wasn't fair they didn't get the badges because they didn't know.

And finally, just because you might not be interested or able to enter, there's always the chance that you'd have friends or relatives that would be.

We've had quite a few comments from people on the forums that we haven't advertised things we did in the past enough, despite the fact that we would have news posts, banners on the front page, and sticky forum threads about things we're doing. So I decided to try something new. If you have a better idea, you're welcome to share it.

You also have the option of disabling these PMs, as you can with the quote ones.

Does Virgil have any plans for making more interesting/useful tags for videos?
Thus:
[youtube=1a1a1a1a1 caption="This would come in handy, as would" align="left/right"[

Those are from the SQL server getting overloaded. Should be good for now!

No plans for captions on videos - video is either self-explanatory, or needs a deeper description. You can use and to do the alignment though, just wrap them around the video tag.

The ads that are appearing in the middle of the threads now, can you please move them out of the middle of the conversation?

They are really annoying.

You don't have to get rid of them, just move them so they aren't right in the middle.

Frosk beat me to it, but I have to agree that the Google ads smack dab in the middle of threads now are terribly annoying. I understand the necessity of advertising, but these ads really bother me and, IMHO, look bad.

Of course, I know you all have your own reasons for trying these things out.

They're no going to remove the ads, it's their main source of income. Solicitation to remove them results in banning.

Don't understand the problem with the ad thing myself.

A suggestion I have is that the 'topic index' button should take me back to the page I was on in the index or perhaps display the topic index page number banner in the thread, top or bottom of pages or both.

I never said they should be removed, I said they should be moved out of the middle of a thread. I just don't think the conversation should be broken up by ads.

This has been mentioned many times before in this thread. The search button needs to be improved or at least provide some functionality for me. And for me only.

Hey, I've been trying to change my profile picture, but it ended up changeing it to the default faceless man and leaveing me on this endless loading screen that says "Done Loading" in the corner but is blank except for adds. Any help on that?
