Ah, illegal immigrants. We persecute them for taking our jobs that we don't want to do in the first place. The white trash idiots who say they are "taking their jobs away" use that as an excuse for not getting a f*cking job so they can continue to watch TV and drink the piss-water that is light beer. Maddox "hit that nail on the head" (that phrase makes no sense, where else would you hit a nail? The sides? Maybe if you're pants-on-head retarded).

I'll repeat myself. There are no jobs Americans won't do, just jobs Americans won't do at that wage. An American working in a meat packing plant at $8 an hour is not necessarily white trash, or even white - look at what has happened with unemployment among young black and Latino men in areas with high illegal populations. An American single mother working as a hotel maid for $7 an hour is not necessarily a bad person, just a person with few job skills. That $7 an hour job might be the difference in her working, with some pride and self-reliance, and her raising her child on welfare. And if she does that job well, she might well go on to a better job. Very few people who earn minimum wage still earn minimum wage years later. It's easiest to learn job skills in school, but experience works too.

Just because someone earns little money or has no job skills to protect them from competition with illegal immigrants doesn't make them bad people, and it certainly doesn't make you superior to them. There are a lot of reasons why people don't pick up marketable job skills - a divorce at home might make a kid so miserable he flunks out of school. A kid forced to move very often may fail to get a useful education simply because of social pressures and unhappiness. A girl might get pregnant and drop out to keep her baby. A kid might drop out of school because he has to work to support the family, or to follow a dream of being a musician, or because he gets hooked on drugs or alcohol. A kid can get diagnosed with mental illness or mild retardation or a learning disability and not be given access to the advanced educational opportunities needed to get job skills safe from illegal competition. Some kids drift through school not learning much simply because they have no role models; nothing in their world convinces them that education and hard work are desirable and useful things, at least to them. Some kids live in school districts where the kind of education that allows one to easily go on to earn valuable job skills is simply not available. Kids in these situations who don't learn valuable job skills are necessarily bad or dumb, they just aren't exceptional enough, or lucky enough, to overcome the odds stacked against them.

Many kids didn't learn a job skill now in demand because they expected to work in a local factory or mine - then that factory closed and went to China, that mine closed, leaving them with job skills that no one wanted. (That applies even in engineering - any idea how many aeronautical engineers went from $100K to $12K in one year?) Some people committed crimes and did jail time, or are registered sex offenders, and unskilled labor is all they can get. All these sorts of people are very vulnerable to sudden increases in unskilled labor, and illegals are the worst because employers can treat them worse, require more from them, give them fewer or no benefits, in addition to the wage lowering effect of any increase in any particular labor pool.

You need to get off your high horse. Very few of us haven't made some mistakes, some bad choices, in life. And no job skills are completely safe - new methods of outsourcing are always being tried, and existing industries are continually becoming obsolete. Just because you may have earned rare and valuable job skills doesn't make you a better person, just a more valuable one on the job market.

And the fact that Americas economy's is in a slump. And may job oppertunitys are being lost so less jobs means more unskilled workers which in turn makes competition worse since you have to fight for jobs with fellow Americans and immigrants.

actually, this has been discussed civilly before in this very thread.

Although, nobody said they didn't believe in global warming, only the cause was disputed.

Give us some credit, we love you no matter what.

WAL MART: police were called to a local Wal Mart recently with reports of a baby in a trash can, upon investigation it turned out to be a burrito.

That is a real police report.
Holy shit.

They thought a burrito was a baby? Who told the bacon? Jack Thompson? Jesus Christ, the gene pool DOES need some chlorine. One gallon a person.

now i find that... untrue, not stupid

It will get more expensive than that, just wait until Obama pulls out of Iraq (not that i think the man is wrong to do so, provided he does it right)

Imagine how many 'terrorist actions' can drive up prices then.

It annoys me that people widely believe the claim that "evangelical"(*) predictions of the apocalypse (like the ones you see in Left Behind) are "based on a literal interpretation of the Bible." I don't blame them, really -- this is how this stuff is always described by the media.

Now, I'm not a Bible-lover or a Christian, but there really is no way in hell that an elaborate interpretive framework based on carefully rearranging passages and looking for buried metaphors and secret code is "literal." As far as text-that-is-actually-in-the-Bible goes, even the very concept of "the Antichrist" is a huge stretch.

-- Alex

* - Technically the right term is "Premillenial Dispensationalist," since many "evangelical" Christians don't actually believe this stuff or anything remotely like it.

I also think comedies and action movies should have a category too, surely one big part of movies is to entertain? please don't let it all be about 'art', that way madness lies and more period dramas ( and I dont mean when I proved I was a new man and bought my girlfried some tampons but apparently 'its not a proper birthday present' )*thanks jimmy carr*.

Funny thing, the first couple years of Oscars did exactly that. Then it stopped. Stupidities.

...you're, you're kidding right? I'm not going to flame or anything but
1 unexplained mysteries is a forum devoted to that stuff
2 All the evidence so far has been debunked or has not been excepted by the scientific community. Every time there is an expedition to search for him they don't find a single trace but these loners in the woods see him all the time. The descriptions of him are very similar to that of the Native Americans well woopty-doo, have you ever played a sports game? it's the same thing over and over. If they were real a dead body would have been found by now and the original "footprints" that started it all were hoaxes. Before that there were no sightings or anything and after that there were tons. A little odd isn't it? We have found no hair, no feces, no bodies, no evidence besides eye witness reports, blurry out of focus videos/pictures and some footprints that can easily be fake or misidentified. An animal that size needs a lot of territory and despite the northwest being very large there still isn't enough. If an animal that size were roaming the woods, and if there were a breeding population, we would be able to find it. If we can track whales in an ocean, bears in the arctic, jaguars through dense jungles, bears throughout the mountains, then we should be able to find a bloody Bigfoot. Don't you think?

this pretty much applies to all pseudoscience. And it's called pseudoscience for a reason. Pseudoscience means fake science.

My mom thinks that the guy from Mindfreak is possessed by the devil.

Okay, this is probably a touchy thing to post about but I just have to mention a commercial I heard and saw the second half of.
My papa is in the stage of life where he feels that he needs to suddenly become a religious person so that he won't go to hell. He watches the Christian Network a lot, and due to his bad hearing it's always very loud.
My bathroom is across the hall from his office, so I was in there one day and heard this, "Are you in debt? Do you worry about where your family is going to be forced to live if you're house is taken away? Do you have money lenders calling you day and night, making you afraid to pick up the phone? *he waits for a dramatic effect and I walk out of the bathroom to catch the end of the commercial* Jesus can help you. By accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior you will find that your money troubles will eventually go away. Your lives will seem so much richer with His presence in your life."
Now, I don't know about everybody else, but I busted out laughing and kept laughing for a good hour off and on. That was just brilliant.
Now, I can understand that if you accept a certain faith and dedicate yourself to it, you may be able to organize your life a little bit more when you think some higher power cares for you, enabling you to feel like things have become easier and all that.
But unless Jesus plans to come in with some major cash in hand that he's going to split between all of his followers to get them out of debt, I don't think he's ACTUALLY going to help you.

You'd be supprised how easy it is to convince people when you not directly talking to them. I convinced my step brother that I'm the head of an evil corporation called The Establishment and that I control the most advanced technology ever created. I even made him my head of weapons development. All this was done by txt message by the way.

You have a very, very gullible step brother.

One of my friends convinced her younger sisters that she was never born, she just spawned out of a pool of murky liquid.
...granted, her sister was about seven at the time.

Funny though.

We had fun at school with the gullible freshmen at one point. Just stupid little things. One girl was convinced that my friend Chris's first name was actually Bonzai. He was telling her about it and would randomly turn to us and pull us in, we'd go with it out of instinct. Some of the things they would believe...

I'll be honest, so do I. Not in a conspiricy sort of way, but more of an, it's a good trillion miles from us. How did they 1: Get there in the course of a week 2: why haven't we gone back and 3: We didn't actually have the technology to safely store a reproducing supply of oxygen until the later seventies early eighties. (I think we just really wanted to beat them ruskies.)
The reasons the government gives are just a little, empty. But hey, me being psychotic and terrified of planes is not the subject at hand :P.

first the moon is just under 400 000 km away, in under a week wouldn't be difficult
second there's no reason to go back to the moon, cept to say "yeah we went back"
third air tanks are a great thing and were around

also who's to say NASA hadn't made a renewable air supply in the 60s and it was declassified or made by a privatized firm after NASA made theirs?

actually he spoke aramaic not hebrew

To be fair, if you watch a documentary on the 9/11 stuff, there is some odd stuff in there. However, basing a conclusion on one fact is never a good idea.

actually not really, it's all pretty easily explainable, it's just most ppl would rather believe something stupid :)

Ok, I admit. That made me laugh.

actually that's an urban myth

my friend met a guy who told him that Canada was in the dark ages and we lived in igloos and had snow all year round, the funny part is they were standing on the shores of the detroit river, even funnier is detroit is north of windsor :)

Anyway, there's more to the world than science can prove and even scientists know it. Bottom line. They'll say crazy things that you don't understand, and "show" you proof, when chances are, it's probably a randomly drawn pie chart. I'm now going back to my hut so I can pray to the horrible thunder bird demon in hopes that my crops grow this year.

A rocket engine allows the space shuttle to travel at 8000 meters per second (28,800kph) to reach orbit and stay there. at the moons perigee (closest point to earth) its 363000 km away, and its apogee is 405,000 km away (furthest point from earth), at the furthest point, it would only take (theoretically) 14 hours to reach the moon, and about fuel, they can simply burn fuel to reach their speed (28,800 kph) and 'float' the rest of the way, then possibly either slingshot around or burn more fuel to come back. Within about a day and say, 8 hours (including 4h time to come around the moon, thats of course slowing down along the way for say, sight seeing :))

LOL I find it funny how people think Jesus spoke english. I also find it funny how alot of people figure Jesus was white (statistically speaking, he should have been almost arab-looking). But I DO believe the US Gov't was responsible for 9/11. The fire doesnt have to melt steel, they took out the structural integrity that held the upper bit up, when it starts crashing down, movement is increased and therefore hits the floors below it with more force (lets say between each floor the steel managed to hit 4.9m/s, that means that a 500KG steel girder (I think thats pretty light, not sure) would hit everything under it with 250KG of force, and the next with 500KG not including the extra weight from the next floor, nor the slow-down from impact. 8 floors down that 500KG girder plus say 9 more girders under it, are now moving at 44.1m/s, with 4500KG behind it = 9th floor impact takes a 20250KG hit). Keep in mind more than one girder was collapsed, while others were buckling because they had to take on the extra load, and eventually gave out. Heat didnt help the matters as they soften and expand the metal, giving it nowhere to go and BOOM! down comes the tower. Keep in mind these are 20 ton flying death-tubes going 750kph that hit the towers.

Also, I understand why bin-laden is so pissed of at america, same with saddam. Both were trained by the CIA (bin laden for the Vietam war I think) as special ops, or mercenaries or something, and the states said "see ya!" after the war was done. The US trains their own enemies, thats why its so difficult for them to get em LOL.

As for crap thats unbelievable: Check out bretharians. What a bunch of idiots. One guy is charging $25,000 a year for a class to teach this crap, he gets rich while others die. Its sickening, and I personally wish they would die as well... The world doesnt need people like them.

A friend of mine regularly tells his friends a completely made up fact, usually I wouldn't approve of this as tricking your friends isn't really that nice.
However, this one time he managed to trick a young teen into believing that coconuts were bear eggs and that a certain type of bear climbed palm trees at night and layed it's eggs there. Quite genius that the poor boy believed him.

Oh oh oh, extreme moment of stupidity!

A World History class at my school was studying the Middle East, and the religions in that area. They got on the topic of Jesus/Jews/Christians.

Teacher: What religion did Jesus create?
Idiot girl: Christianity, duh. *everybody chuckles*
Teacher: Okaaaay, what religion was he born into?
Idiot girl: What the f***? I already said it, Christianity.

Oh the joy I get from laughing at/wanting to smack the crap out of stupid people.
