it looks like it is not.

The trailer did look like it was going back to its roots. Number 2 really shook my faith (what little I had in sequels). I don't know, could be the smecks or it could just be another samy trilogy sequel.

Watched it already. So far I'd say it has a bit from both the first and second movie.
What I din't like was how the bugs were animated this time. They always seemed to be put in digitally after the film was filmed (which they were of course but still it looked odd), and when they were shot there were NO signs of bullet impact. Humans were torn apart in the good old brutal way.
After all I'd still say if you liked one of the previous films take your time and watch it.

Well it certainly looks more like the first. I only watched the second movie once and I remember I didn't like it too much.
It looks promising.

The biggest problem I have with all of this is that there is no sign of the powered armor which made the book cool.

Well, they didn't include the book's philosophy-heavy plot but who cares? This is choc full o' campy violence and win!
