Anonymous Source Posts: 3 Joined: 8 May 2008 | This year's theme for the summer program I go to is "Epic." Which means that it's expanded far beyond the internet... EVERYONE in the program uses it. For EVERYTHING. I usually don't mind memes. I love them. All your base. I pwn. Etc. But... Epic? It's getting quite old. Enrich your vocabulary- read something more than game manuals. |

These days there's no accurate way to describe a long and thrilling movie, a lengthy powerful novel or the music of Mono and Mogwai, because 'epic' has become severely cheapened. |

Insult me if you like, but please try to prove that your vocabulary stretches to double figures, and try ANY other insult except' I believe that perhaps you are not as skilled as myself in this particular game'. Come on, there's a whole world of creative abuse out there, if you REALLY need to verbally knock me down, at least try! I'm with the above guy on pwnd, too. Anyone saying or typing that (unless you're doing it to abuse people who use it, heh), has instantly labelled themselves idiotic. It seems most multiplayer servers have a heavy approach to racist insults, which is a good thing, but I'd expand it to sexist, homophobic, retard comments, noob, and pwned, too, force people to go read a book a learn some new words if nothing else. |

Muckraker Posts: 272 Joined: 20 Jun 2008 | Think of it like a fad. Back in the 50s it was 'keen' in the 80's it was 'exellent-followed by an air guitar solo' and in the 90s it was either 'ober, or wicked' so give it time, we'll think of something else. I think we should start saying 'exellent-followed by and air guitar solo' again. Exellent! (air guitar solo) |

I was about to make a crack about you having no right to decide what's funny (with an avatar from that certain webcomic), but then I didn't. Then I looked at what I wrote in this post and realized I already did. |

False. You just don't know the right people. Or is it the wrong people? I'm not sure. All I am sure about is that I regularly refer to things as "epic" or "epic lulz" or "epic fail" or "fepic ail" etc and soforth. It's sort of like "fuckin'" for gamers. To quote George Carlin, may he rest in peace:

What's wrong with the word pwnt? Yes it's quite overused but it has it's place in gaming and I don't see anything really wrong with it's usage, unless you think it's just unfair to demean people for losing. I'm so tired of this snobbish attitiude people like you take. Why should others have to "go read a book" simply so that they can use more creative insults towards you? It seems like you're looking down on people because they have a smaller vocabulary or aren't as articulate as you, and it's not going to get you anywhere. Like you, I think the way people use the term n00b is inherently stupid because I don't think people should be made to feel bad for being new, unskilled or uninitiated at something, but it doesn't in any way make them "instantly idiotic". If anything it makes them a little elitist, but it's no different from the attitude you take towards those people! Also if you say they should ban people making "retard comments", then maybe you should refrain from using the word idiotic- have a look a it's origin. Instead of dismissing them why don't you try telling people what's wrong with calling people noobs? Maybe if you were nicer and more respectful to people they wouldn't need to go through the trouble of insulting you in the first place. |

Although I do agree 'n00b' is becoming annoying, just because everyone seems to be one these days, particularly on Xbox Live. Whether you're better than someone or worse than them, you are either a n00b for dying, or a n00b for killing them. |

i hate that phrase. it's so tired, over used, unoriginal, uncreative, and so vague that its arbitrary application is meaningless and devoid of relevance. |
