Paperboy Posts: 38 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | I've never had to deal with either group, irl, thankfully. But internet wise? Emos. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 92 Joined: 22 Jul 2008 | Very true. I actually don't really have anything against the people who identify with those groups. Just their music! |
Beat Writer Posts: 192 Joined: 12 Jun 2008 | Ah, yes the music from both groups does leave a bad taste in my mouth, but so long as they don't FORCE me to listen to it, I think to each their own. |
Paperboy Posts: 15 Joined: 24 Jul 2008 | OK, first thing. The vote goes to Goths. The amount of music thought to be metal, though actually emo, completely pisses me off. Next, your throat should be slit, stomach gashed, and body burned for even thinking of starting a thread like this. OK, emo's are annoying. We get it. Start a thread asking "do you think emos are annoying" or something of the sorts, but nothing comparing a goth to an emo without the latter being mutilated and burned. I am not goth, but I do side with them. And as for the one who said "There's a difference!?!", you should learn some basic facts about them before ever comparing goths to emos. |

With me it's the exact opposite. I don't mind the music, but christ - do you really have to wear a fucking uniform to show you like the music? What's the point? If I were to choose though, I'd say emo annoys me more. Some goths do actually look like works of art - not particularly my taste, but you have to admire the craftsmanship. All emofags do is wear clothes their grandfather wore in an effort to be meta-cool for some obscure reason. |

Too late. I'm already under sever horrible curses that shall not be named. Edit: And by the way. Have you noticed that so far the conversation is proving to be rather insightful. Maybe this poll is my backhanded way of collectively analyzing why we feel the way we do about those groups. And maybe I'm wiser than you give me credit for. ;) |
Beat Writer Posts: 192 Joined: 12 Jun 2008 | I think this thread is going to be locked at some point, someone's gonna get offended I can tell. The crunch of it is that people have different opinions on what they like, and others will always disagree with them. It won't be long before a flamewar starts on this thread I'm sure. I'm going home and then I'm going to the pub, bye! |

Actually, there is a misconception in this sentence. Although there is a genre of music known as emo (or emo rock, screamo, etc.), there is no real music called goth. The genre "gothic" is actually hundreds of years old and refers to the art style experienced in many medieval churches. Goths today listen to most types of metal, although generally listen to Black Metal. Edit: I give it to you, this conversation does seem to be getting a bit insightful. I congratulate you on opening a topic in which one can understand many misconceptions of today's culture. Edit: Very sorry, Psychochef, about the quote thing. I just changed it to the appropriate person. I'm new to the quoting system here, so it ended up saying that you quoted it instead of Spacelord |

Goths? Yes, they are reclusive. Emos, on the other hand, usually feel like they have to come and tell me all their problems. Since whining is the definition of their subculture (AFAIK), I've always assumed they do that everybody. So, yeah, Emos are more annoying. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 67 Joined: 8 Jul 2008 | I've never met a whiny emo kid. I've got no problem with anyone. And yeah, I don't get why they have to dress ridiculous, either. I love both metal and 'emo' music, yet I dress in prep clothes. Some of my friends dress scene, emo, goth, etc and yet I still hang out with them and actually look out of place in that group. But we're all people. Get over it. |

Are you talking shit? :D |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 712 Joined: 29 Jan 2008 | Screw 'em all... the only difference I can find between goths and emos is goths want to kill everyone around them, emos just want to kill themselves... or they just want to get attention. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 110 Joined: 17 Feb 2008 | its simple. goths are anti-socials who prefer to be locked inside. were as emo's have huge gatherings were they all get together and cry. and as we all know crying makes a droning sound which gets quite annouying were as their goth counter parts just stay at home and listen to cradle of filth. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 4066 Joined: 24 Apr 2008 | to me, both are groups of people founded on the idea of individuality or rebellion from the mass opinion. allow me to break that down
allow me to highlight this further.
Thats like holding a protest against euthanasia from inside a gas chamber you rented for the occasion. And not all of the music is appalling, only that which tries to sell itself through the Emo or Goth name and not the quality of the music... of which there is much. |
Red Guard Posts: 1789 Joined: 16 Dec 2007 | These sorts of "hate threads" never really turn out to be smiles and rainbows. By that, I mean "These sort of threads attract people who are trying to be funny at the expense of someone's desire to be part of a counter-culture." That's not really the community we want to foster here. There are all ages and kinds of people here. Keep that in mind I've said my piece; you're all precious snow flakes. Now go talk about the song you want them to play at your funeral. |
So. Being a newb to the boards, I though I'd just throw out one of those random question that enter in my head from time to time. Just to get a feel for this place. As to where the question came from, I plead the fifth (of bourbon).
P.S. I hope I'm not offending anyone with this question. So I'd just like to let it be know...my lawyer's on retainer.
