Ok recent evens in my life have resulted in me going to the very brink of stress and back and there and back again, I cant tell you all my story as part of it is going to my grave but the other half got me thinking.

Ok so I developed a small gambling problem in recent weeks (dont worry I have it under control now) anyway there is a live casino (real dealers, not computerised) I play on and when I got paid on friday i accidentally lost all my wages. This as you can imagine left me in a very bad place so I decided to send them a little email. "i lost my entire wages for 2 weeks last night. now i have no money for 2 weeks, im going to get kicked out of my house, i cant even afford to get to work."

That was the whole email. so I get home from work and they tell me they are refunding the entire amount.

Now as I had already acquired enough money to keep me going this has made me a very happy person.

So I was wondering how many opportunities like this do we miss, how many times could we reverse our mistakes, how many things can you erase if only you had just send a simple email, made a simple phone call, what ever.

Similar stories please???

Someone about a month ago got a hold of my debit card and started making micro transactions. I immediately called the number on my card, at like 9 at nite, and got someone rite away who started handling it. Within 2 weeks my money had been refunded and the bank was chasing the muggers down.

What I learned is, never sit on something like that, no matter how small. People all over the world get paid to handle this kind of stuff and most of them know how to do their jobs. Never assume there's nothing you can do unless you've tried everything.

And by the way, friend, you should probably avoid the online gambling scene from now on. Just an idea.

Please tell me you don't live in America. Please forgive me, but your dumbass went to a casino, lost all your money, then cried about it and they gave you it back. That crap is the same reason you can't breathe in America without someone throwing a law suit at you, it's the reason every coffee cup from any store says, "Caution, contents may be hot."
I sympathise with you losing some money, but you spend ALL your money and they gave it back. That stuff just makes me sick. It's shit like that that the government feels the need to babey us. It's no better then, "Hey, you assholes cheated me out of all my money, give it back or I'll sue."
They should have replied with, "We didn't ask you to come in." Sorry, but that pisses me off. KNOW YOUR LIMIT!

Just curious, but assuming that because of these actions the company involved retains a customer who regulates their habit and by this point has developed loyalty based on their generosity and returns, thereby giving them more profit than if they cut him off, should they still have turned him away? Never mind the publicity black-eye they probably simultaneously avoided, and the word-of-mouth (just like this) that results.

Cui bono, man. If this wasn't in their best interest you can bet they wouldn't have done it. I agree that there is ugliness here, but it has nothing to do with the government and everything to do with capitalism as practiced by smart people.

And you should read up about that coffee cup thing before you hurt yourself with apoplectic rage.

Nay, a king is a monarch. I'm going for cold iron fist ya'll.

And Erin, do you honestly think that one lady was the only instance? Do you know what companies will pay to keep people quiet? There has been more than instance of hot coffee issues. It's like Wal-Mart. The Wal-Mart down my street just settled their second 200k lawsuit out of court on sheisters.

Yes but gentlemen like Erin, or gentlewomen, automatically assume that when ANYTHING is used as a minor reference that they automatically know exactly what someone was talking about.

EDIT: Example. Know why the McDonalds coffe cup says, Voiche Heist (sp?)? It's because some sheister burned himself on their coffee and said in court he could only read German. I mean, I don't give two shits what temperature the coffee was, the woman KNEW, SHE KNEW that coffee is hot. It all still boils down to blatant ignorance.

I would say it's a fair estimate that they pay a marginal percentage of their profits. You still haven't really answered my question. If they are net profiting off of giving this person back their two weeks' wages by keeping a customer, are you saying they should stop doing that and stop profiting? Because it would make you feel better?

What kind of puzzles me is that you have local experience with Walmart doing something that it wanted to pay $200k to shut someone up for, and you think the funny business is on the part of the person suing. I would ask if you honestly think a company would settle a lawsuit they thought they could win for that much cash, but I don't think I'd get a coherent answer.

What are you babbling about?

I have never in my life seen a coffee cup with "voiche heist" on it, but then I've never bought coffee in Germany.

And yes, when you pulled out the coffee reference I automatically assumed you were referring to the case in which there were 700 prior reports of coffee scalding that went unanswered, a QA analyst who said that individual burns (which were studied by the company) accounted for less than total profit for the efficiency of running coffee at higher temperatures, a woman was hospitalized for a week (with skin grafts) and bedridden for three, and the allotted settlement, which was not paid in full, was calculated as a factor of two days' worth of McDonalds coffee profits, and the initial suit launched only after McDonalds refused to pay an $11k medical bill. But it seems you were talking crazy instead. My mistake.

Necroswanson always talks crazy. Anwyay, you've never seen the voische heist? Over here in Washignton it's on every coffee cup I've ever seen, then again it may be that we're just a large port.

As for your questions: Three people in my community were banned from Casinos for asking for their money back. So, in the experience I've seen, most casinos wouldn't give back a two weeks wage and say, "Hey, come on back." It's shifty business practice to give money back to someone and expect them to come back.

As for the Wal-Mart. This is where the term sheisters coem sin. The lawsuit was over a broken arm. The security cameras had footage of the woman purposely spilling her drink in a lynoleum aisle. Walked away. Contacted noone about it, went back, slipped, and broke her arm. Purposely. Yes, for a much smaller amount of money, Wal-Mart could have gone to court and won, without even demanding money from the woman.

Yes I referenced an incident that pertains to another incident that is apparently popular, then again, if I start talking about a MMO and be vague, most people will assume it's WoW.

In America, casinos are illegal (Excepting Vegas), due to the fact that whatever land they give back to the American Indians, they turn into casinos.

An American band member I was billeting told me that!

Also, I don't know the situation, but Indians would probably not give refunds any time soon. You probably sent an email to some guy who REALLY hated his job or his boss.

I currently have nothing to say on-topic.

Listen to the (wo)man.

Seriously just go start a thread to complain/laugh about stupid warning labels or casinos or whatever. In fact, that's what I'm off to do. You can all have fun over there until you are back on topic.

Then he was retarded. There are four casinos within four miles of me, none of Indian lands.

To be honest I think the only gambling, gamboling, gamblingbling, that is illegal in America is non corporate run, private gamblingilinging.
