Gone Gonzo Posts: 1431 Joined: 9 Aug 2008 | Batman, his villains, John Constantine: Hellblazer, and Neil Gaiman's Sandman are the only things that make me read DC Comics on any occasion. So, Marvel. They got every other cool superhero, and they have a very distinct lack of that asshole Superman. So yeah. Marvel! EXCELSIOR!!! |

If you're talking about just power, look at The Sentry. He was able to fight The Hulk (The new Hulk, who crushed Iron Man and broke both Colussuss' arms) to a standstill. He might be more powerful than Nate Gray, and the people who made him have openly stated that there's nothing he can't do. Hell, Sentry could fucking crush Superman. Of course, he is completely emotionally dependent on his wife, and he has about as much emotional fortitude as Cloud Strife (Cid: sissy boy Cloud: (tearfully) NO I'M NOT!). Add that to the fact that he has an alternate personality (or something, they're never really clear about that) called The Void that counteracts everything he does, and you've got one fucked up superhero. Which is exactly why I like him. Apologies to the DC fans. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 51 Joined: 12 Aug 2008 | I like both companies and have favorites on both sides. However, as of late it feels like DC is slipping. I preferred the "civil war" nonsense over the "reality is breaking apart at the seams" nonsense. Yes, I recognize that was ages ago I'm just putting up an example. Also, when they go off on a tangent, Marvel does stuff like "Marvel: 1602" whereas DC does stuff like "Superman and Batman vs Alien and Predator". |

DC do need to stop having Crises. I agree with the idea that Marvel comes across as less serious than DC. Even though it was a while back, look at the Black Mask/Spolier fight in War Games. That's some really nasty stuff. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1618 Joined: 29 Dec 2007 | The Civil War was good but I enjoyed the Watchmen more. Gonna throw in my lot with DC. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 3558 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | DARK HORSE... And I love cheese. IMHO, Marvel trumps DC because of volume. I'd say that marvel has something like 1 good character for every thirty crap ones, but they have thousands of characters so they end up with three or four dozen good characters. DC only has a couple hundred characters, good or bad, and they still don't have more than 1 good one per dozen bad, so even though they have less crap per winner, it's still overshadowed by Marvel's hordes. Also, Marvel has Deadpool... InstaWin. |

X-Man would go inside his mind and make him more of a pansy than he already is. Any way Marvel characters seem to be a lot more complex than DC characters, although DC tends to have better events and store arcs. Are we talking about DCU VS MU or just anything published by Marvel or DC? User was banned for: I'm Finished. (Permanent) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2029 Joined: 7 Mar 2008 | for me it was always marvel, they consistently have better stories and such, dc can have some good ones from time to time but it's really hit and miss and it's mostly on their other imprints rather than the actual dc name |

I think they have stopped, but I can't be sure. The only thing from DC that I still pick up is Justice League.
Agreed. Although the whole point of the New Avengers is to introduce a whole new team of super heroes every other issue. MVP for instance... who is but isn't a superhero at the same time. If I say anymore it would require a spoiler. --- Although one of my favorite comics of all time is the name of this poll. Back in the 90s they actually had a Marvel VS DC comic, though only 3 issues. It was amusing. The Amalgam that happened afterwards is less memorable. Just to note about Watchmen though, it doesn't take place in their DC universe, only published by them. That makes me not even really consider it DC. Much in the same way that a lot of games are being published by EA or Activision but the publisher doesn't really influence creation. Aside of course from throwing varying sums of money at the creators for every milestone they achieve. |

You sir, have not read Punisher Max. Or anything in the max series have you? They make Sandman look like a kids cartoon |
Paperboy Posts: 31 Joined: 6 Aug 2008 | If Vertigo counts, then I'd have to say DC, without a doubt. Anybody who hasn't yet read the Preacher series is doomed, and 100 Bullets is one of the most gripping comic tales I've read in a long time. That said, I'm reading Marvel's Annihilation right now, and enjoying the hell out of it. |

Dude... It's "Super NOT Hero", not "Not Super Hero". Edit: In case anyone takes it too seriously... Serially... I was the vice president you know... But anyways, don't take it too serial, I was being sarcastic/humerous. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1928 Joined: 15 Jun 2008 | ack... im a big Marvel fan, but DC's Vertigo label produces a lot of my favourite comics (Sandman, Preacher, Hellblazer, lots of Alan Moore titles)...and DC has Batman... so it's a tough decision... I'm not going to vote on the poll since I can't decide... although most of the normal DC titles aren't my cup of tea (and i really really hate Superman...grrrr...) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1465 Joined: 2 Jan 2008 | I have my favorites from each side, but in the end, I'd probably side with Marvel. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 382 Joined: 21 Jun 2008 | Iron Man, the Runaways, New Warriors, The Avengers, Thunderbolts, X-Men...yeah I'm a Marvel man. Not to say that I don't read DC stuff like Action Comics (the current arc kicks too much arse) and Green Lantern, I just prefer Marvel. Each to their own, right people? |
Paperboy Posts: 13 Joined: 19 Aug 2008 | I personally identify with more superheros from Marvel. I like DC because (generally speaking) when a character dies they stay dead; however, how many freaking crisis do you need before people stop caring. Plus Daredevil is Marvel and everybody knows (and i'm just speculating) that DD is the best. Yet ironically I have a pic of Guy Gardner (DC, Green Lantern; currently seen in the pages of Green Lantern Corps). Thats because Guy is awesome as well and I'm tired of staring at my sweet but brooding pics of DD. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 112 Joined: 7 Aug 2008 | Batman is clearly the best comic book hero around, but Marvel has a better overall lineup.....plus Marvel Zombies, which makes this a no contest. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1853 Joined: 13 Dec 2007 | As much as I like my superheroes separate, it's much more important for my superheroes to not be Superman. So Marvel gets my vote. |

Need I say more. Anyway, how can you not love Marvel: Civil War, World War Hulk, Marvel Frikken' Zombies! They fought Ash for christ sake! |

Nope the only person who stays dead is Uncle Ben. |
Beat Writer Posts: 133 Joined: 16 Aug 2008 | i know that marvel also has the incredable max series that i've been reading constantly. Anyone else here read punisher max by the way? |

Poor Ben, hundreds of villains killed and revived, but this old bastard stays six feet under, and doesn't even get zombie status. |

Personally i'm a die hard marvel fan, i find it's protagonists to be much more interesting, while DC heros generally have ridiculous powers (see superman for details). I don't care much for DC, but i'm wondering what everyone else thinks?
