Even on his previous world record he was showing off at the end, though not nearly as much as this one. Note the reason that there are only pictures and no actual video for the 9.69 world record is that you-tube takes them down. They aren't allowed to post it until after the Olympics are over. |

It's a shame obikwelu didn't get a medal, though. |

It's not just the suits that were creating faster swim times. The pool itself lended to the faster swims: ten lanes instead of eight, gutters on the walls, three meters deep instead of two. All of those factors add up to smoother water allowing for faster swimming (easier to swim in smoother water). The suits had a part to play, but the pool itself helped as well. |

For anyone who missed it, Usain Bolt took the gold medal in the 100 meter sprint in an amazing display of athleticism and showmanship. He shattered his old world record of 9.72 seconds bringing it down to 9.69, now holding both the Olympic and World records for the event.
.03 of a second may not seem like much, but that wasn't even the amazing part about his run. The amazing part was that at about 80 meters he knew he had won, and let up. He could have easily run it in under 9.5 seconds. That was possibly the most amazing victory I have ever seen. For anyone who saw it, were you as impressed as I was?
