Either way, a few day later one of the forum topics intrigued me and so I created a profile to reply and never left. Why? As people tell friends, they end up recruiting unwillingly... those friends tell their friends and soon enough there are a tide of 2 digit posters around my feet.

I think you may have misunderstood (or I am misunderstanding you.) What I meant was that if I were American I could go "yeah I joined on Independence Day that's pretty awesome." I'd have to have joined on Canada Day to get a similar sort of thing. I missed Canada day by 3 days. *Insert sad face.*

People join because The Escapist forums are where it be at! OR more likey because when hitting F5 while waiting for the new ZP, they spot a topic of interest. I dunno, I have noticed alot of newcomers to the board of late.

I have been noticing new threads getting quickly washed away by a load of necros lately, whether it has to do with the new sign up or not I don't know, but it is sad to see new topics overrun by old ones that have had their time.

As a boomer, I will give my own subjective account. Watched ZP every week. Saw some neat threads. Eventually found a thread demanding my post, and joined.

Moving a long, I joined cause of yahtzee video watching and then I found an interesting thread.

I have introduced pretty much all of my friends and acquaintances to Zero Punctuation recently (and every single one of them loved it) and a few of them probably have signed up for the forums so I'm doing my part getting the word out and expanding the community.

I do have a very low post count for how long I've been a member on reflection of some of the above posts. Oh well quality not quantity as they say.

It's an alright forum I guess, I've learned to mostly stay the fuck away from the Gaming Discussion up top and just lurk around here. I learned about The Escapist when I heard that it won a Webby. I only recently started reading the articles and liked what I saw so I hopped over to the forums. Overjoyed that I had found a forum unpolluted by shitty memes like most other message boards, I joined.
