Paperboy Posts: 35 Joined: 28 Jul 2008 | I think I'm sane, but people always tell me I'm crazy. I think what keeps me so powerfully sane is my lack of compassion for or valuing of human life. My unique logic train is the basis of my sanity, and a key tenet of it is that nothing inherently has more value than anything else. If all things are basically equal- but not basically the same, then I am aware that the universe and its contents exist, but claim no further knowledge than what is in the present and available to my perception. Also my firm conviction that I'm smart, despite all evidence to the contrary. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1124 Joined: 17 Jun 2008 | Honestly when I really think about it I can think of no real reason as to why I shouldn't just off myself. I doubt I ever will though, so I guess what keeps me sane is just my unwillingness to become insane. Maybe music too. =) |

Copy Clerk Posts: 70 Joined: 6 Aug 2008 | I like to think I'm sane but I admit I secretly know that this is just a fantasy dreamworld and everything else in it is a figment of my imagination. My imagination is pretty dull to come up with things like bills, college but makes it back up with friends and girls. |

Muckraker Posts: 267 Joined: 11 Oct 2007 | Q: What keeps you sane? A: The fact that I can wiggle my toes. Q: ??!! A: Yes, really.... because I figure that the day I cannot do that any more I will really miss it. As long as I can still wiggle my toes I am still alive and not paralyzed. With that my life cannot be enough shite to warrant becoming insane. /S |

Then of course there is the question: What could make you go insane? Well now I can just point at abysss's and Zio's posts and say "Pretty much of that". /S |
Muckraker Posts: 300 Joined: 17 Aug 2008 | as a great man once said: The only people who are truly insane are those who wholeheartly claim they are not. of course this man was the local village drunk and the called him shifty steve. |

Beat Writer Posts: 158 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | As you may presume from one of my previous posts, I've had and 8 year running involvement with an assortment of psychiatric institutes. From personal experience, I can attest to the fact that the cornocopia of mental problems that can afflict a person are seldom if ever entertaining. More accurately, they are ugly, painful, pathetic and debilitating. Ironically, both within the 'community' of those diagnosed with psychiatric disorders and in the general public, insanity is fetishized. I suppose most see it as either a desirable eccentricity to add some sparkle to their self concept, or as an avenue to act in defiance of societal conventions while being absolved of the ownership of their behavior. Within the psychiatric patient community, it can actually engender a degree of empathy or understanding to share your diagnosis to your fellow crazies. Although they might be fucked up, individually, I've found people harbouring any manner of mental disorder to often be more accepting and tolerant of differences in others. I suppose every cloud has a silver lining, if you agree the glass is half full. |

Sorry to hear that you have not been at full health. Having had people dear to me, or famliy members of people dear to me, been afflicted with such illnesses, I can attest it's no picnic. That said... what we are discussing here - when reading between the lines - is not "true" insanity, and everyone knows that. Perhaps the question would have been better phrased as: "What serves to keep your frustration down, and which allows you to relax from stress and things that annoy you greatly?". It's just aht the question becomes a bit long then. /S |
Beat Writer Posts: 158 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | Thanks for the kind words. I do alright though, respectively. Yeah, I got the jist of the thread, just figured I'd throw in a more literal anecdote. In keeping with the discussion though... Incessant creativity: writing, composing music, programming synthesziers, sketching (pen & ink), photoshop-ing, video editing, animation. Keeps the head-noise focused. Beyond that, cycling, videogames, reading, movies, games, collecting things of interest. Head fuel. |
