Well I guessed there would be a lot of Oasis fans over here in England, and a few (not many) Hofonaughts in America. So you put the two together I am rather unique.
Yet so catchy. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1431 Joined: 9 Aug 2008 | My understanding of this board is that the majority of its members are: Alternative/Classic Rock and Metal fans who despise anything even hinting at emo and absolutely despise Hip Hop. Favorite bands of the average members are Led Zeppelin, Disturbed, Slipknot, and AC/DC. As for me, I am not the average member because the majority of music I listen to is Hip Hop, Deathcore, Electro, and Pop-Punk. Hurray for variety. |

I've been meaning to get some Sam Cooke albums for awhile now. In regards to the OP, music nerds and videogame nerds are two totally different breeds of nerd. Sure, sometimes they overlap, but it's not the same. |

I love 'Emo'. MCR, and according to Rock Band, Fallout Boy. |
Muckraker Posts: 266 Joined: 19 Jan 2008 | I've noticed a distinctly anti-rap tone in previous threads on this site concerning music, to the effect of "What music don't you like?" the answer often being "Rap. Any of it". Those people I ignore. Personally, I would identify more with rock, but I'm not adverse to soem Penderecki or MF Doom. |

The video was my favourite part. I'm certain he was poking fun and parodying his own cult following, which I just find funny. |

At least you can find people who listen to your type of music! Do you know hard it is to find a Harsh Noise or Power Electronics fan? It is not an easy thing! Even people who like actual Goth Rock and Death Rock are hard to find. But yes, I agree with you. Most of them have never even heard actual emo. They wouldn't know a Rites of Spring album if you hit them with it. And I can't stand Disturbed or Slipknot. I find them both to be like Death Metal with all of the interesting bits cut out. Although, I feel sorry for you, half of the people who listen to Deathcore are *shudder*Scenesters*shudder*. |

What's that supposed to mean?
I have heard like thirty seconds of one song by Stabbing Westward...what are they like? Also City of Caterpillar is wonderful. It's an actual emo band that is good. Really good. Check them out if you haven't heard of them. |

Does Psyclon 9, Cabaret Voltaire, Grendel, VNV Nation and Velvet Acid Christ count? I have some friends who are into the Electrogoth stuff and I've gotten a lot of cool tracks from them. As for Goth Rock, the only thing I've listened to is Bauhaus' Bela Lugosi's Dead which is pretty much common knowledge. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1325 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | What are some good rock/metal bands? No Death metal though please. Personally I tend to listen to alot of Rap but I will listen to anything I find not to reek of suck. |

I guess so? I stopped listening to Cybergoth stuff a while ago. EBM doesn't really appeal to me anymore. Which is sad, because I used to love it. I was thinking of stuff like FotN, Sex Gang Children, Black Ice, Kommunity FK, etc. |

Yeah, that bit does suck. Atleast scenester chicks are hot though. Me on the otherhand, I hang out with musicians within the genre and I am trying to be a vocalist myself, so I tend to avoid the people who are in it for the scene. As for emo, I don't pretend to listen to any of it other than Senses Fail, of whom I am a huge fan. Out of all the modern "emo" bands, Senses Fail seems to be the most original and interesting to me. |

Hibria - Great brazilian power metal band.
Hmm, well I've only heard of Kommunity FK (I have Goth Oddity), good stuff, but I usually lean towards EBM. |

Scenester girls are only hot half the time. The other half they look like denizens of candy-land with dead mammals on their head. And Senses Fail are not a band I've heard of. I only know a few bands in the genre that aren't fossils, so I guess I'm just like you in that respect. One of those bands is City of Caterpillar, who I adore. Oh and good luck with the Deathcore vocalist thing.
You haven't heard of Fields of the Nephilim? They are my favoritest rock of any type band ever. They can be a bit pretentious at times though. What's your favorite EBM act? |

This is true, but I live in a place where I avoid most of those chicks. Most of what I see is black bobs and emo swoops. Thank you sir. I actually think I'm getting pretty good. I started out really bad, but I've been working on it progressively over the past year and a friend of mine (vocalist of a popular local technical deathcore band for a few years) told me that I was already better than most of the vocalists around my area. And this is a guy who will tell you how much he disagrees with you to your face and then call you gay, so I trust his opinion. Edit: Senses Fail are pretty decent. They had a song on "Guitar Hero III" even on the unlock tracks, which is how I first heard them. After that I started looking for more of their music and found out that the them of their lyrics derive from eastern religions and what not. They might be a little too pop-punk for your tastes, but if I were to suggest any modern emo band to you, it'd be them. |

Yeah, I haven't gotten around to this genre, as I'm currently exploring Hip-hop right now. As for EBM a few favorites are Die sektor, :wumpscut:, Suicide Commando, Nitzer Ebb, and possibly VNV Nation as mentioned above, though they do mix a lot of styles. |

Im only a secret nerd, and I dont really listen to music any more, but I used to listen to , mix and make gabba.
When I was younger it was Jungle, various harder forms of techno, breakbeat hardcore techno, german and dutch tech...yeah, basically a lot of techno.
When I was a lot younger it was death and black metal, plus old Paradise Lost and Anathema kind of stuff.
...oh, and I've also aways like ambient stuff like FSOL and Aphex Twin.
Peoples taste in music tends to change through their lives, but theres usually a firm favourite that they will always love. However, I have to say my prime motivator for whatever music I listened to was the fact that I was doing the drugs most associated with it at the time.
...and finally in answer to your question, yeah, I have noticed a lot of internet types like rock/metal.
