Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 30 Aug 2008 | I know that it is being made into a movie, that is why I am asking the question. I will also see it, I just think it will in no way be as good as the book. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 123 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | quite frankly DM992, i was highly considering NOT watching this film, because hollywood destroys comic book adaptations to please the non-source material reading crowd, and this is why i hate them. I still haven't watched Wanted, because the film story has NOTHING in common to its comic book source material other than the name of SOME of the main characters, they just chopped and changed one of the best comic books i ever read, it was horrific. my friend calls me a 'source material snob' but the reason i am so, is because adaptations are only made to draw in the comic book reading crowd, but when you go to the cinema, and the only resemblance it has to your favorite comic book or graphic novel is the title, you feel cheated and lied to, or at least i do. League of extroadinary gentlemen is another one, jesus i just wish they would leave Alan Moore alone, they've destroyed enough of his work. i could name the titles all day... i WILL be watching this, simply because they claimed they would be keeping it true to its source, but i swear if they are lying, i'm done with hollywood adaptations for life. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 533 Joined: 31 Jul 2008 | I will watch it, even though I have no idea what the hell it's about. All I know is it's based on either a novel, a graphic novel, or a comic book (I'm not sure which one). |

Same thing. Only people sensitive about being called nerds call them 'graphic novels' |

I hope that the movie does it justice, it seemed like they're taking a more vigilante/anti vigilante angle on the material, which isn't necessarily bad, but could be, I don't remember the novel dealing with the public perception of their actions as directly. Though maybe this is a sign of the times? |
Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 30 Aug 2008 | It is both a comic book and a novle. That is why they call it a graphic novle. I am also not sure about the movie because I am not sure how they will portray roarsarch. In my opinion, I think he was the true hero of the story, who was struck down in his apex. Yet some readers think that he is evil. The author ment it that way. I hope they keep it that way. Yet, knowing the hollywood liberal s"*( they will take my objectivist hero, throw him to the curb, and run him over with at truck. P.S. I woulden't judge you if you didn't see it. |

Paperboy Posts: 25 Joined: 30 Aug 2008 | I loved V for Vendetta. Even though the movie differed form the book, it was done in a good way. It was 1984 meets a clockwork orange in boath mediums. |

Rorschach is my personal favorite fictional character of all time. Screw the people who think he's evil. You know, in the trailer, they paraphrase his famous "I'll look down and whisper, 'No'" line. I think he's going to be the badass we know and love. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 564 Joined: 26 May 2008 | Do you even know what website you're posting on? The better question would be 'Who won't watch the Watchmen?' but I'm guessing you want replies. If the ensuing legal battle going on over Watchmen is lost by...well, I'm not sure who the key players are, but (I'm leading into a punchline, so stay with me) the one 'Who watches the Watchmen' might not be you. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 55 Joined: 18 Aug 2008 | ::Donning flameproof pants:: I hated the Graphic Novel. I felt it was boring and stodgy. I hated the characters, except the Comedian. He roxx. I will still watch the movie. I have seen most comic book movies and liked all of them. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1221 Joined: 1 Jan 2008 | I'm definatley going to see the movie, although I wish the trailer wasn't so stupid. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 102 Joined: 17 Jun 2008 | Yes, I am definitely going to see the movie. Hopefully they want ruin it, but if they stay to true to the comic, things should be okay. I love the trailer. The song gets stuck in my head all the time.
Any response to this that accurately reflects my feelings towards this post would get me banned so I will censor myself. |

It won't make you challenge your preconceptions about justice, fate, heroism or society as the book does. The movie won't have anything worthwhile to say. Just another boilerplate popcorn-muncher. Iron-clad rule: The book is always better. No exceptions. |

Still I think he's entitled to his opinion. Anyhoo, being the huge comic fan that I am I will defiently go and see this on opening day. I still wonder how the movie will embrace some of the wackier concepts in the Watchmen, but I'm sure Snyder can pull it off. |

I believe that too, just pointing out this site is heavily biased towards Alan Moore's works in general. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 403 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | I'm probably going to see it, but I'm not expecting a faithful adaptation of the source material, because that's probably not what I'm going to get. At this point, I'd settle for an entertaining, thought provoking movie. As long as it's not an awful movie, I don't really mind it deviating from the source material. *glares in Daredevil's direction* Sidenote... How about that Dr. Manhattan, huh? He actually came out looking pretty good. I was worried for a bit, but he's more or less spot on. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1543 Joined: 7 Sep 2008 | At the risk of sounding moronic..... Wasn't there a guy in the trailer for the movie who looked and sounded like Batman, complete with color scheme and pointy ear-things on the helmet (cowl)? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1397 Joined: 5 Aug 2008 | I have never really liked comic books, so I have never read The Watchmen, but I do plan to see the movie. I think I'll see the movie first, then maybe read it, so I don't get to disappointed with the movie. Also...
I'm not entirely sure on this, but I think the guy who looked like batman and the guy who sounded like batman were two different characters. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1465 Joined: 23 Dec 2007 | I realise the trailer is absoultely freakin' awesome, but am I the only one that thinks that perhaps they've screwed the pooch re: Ozymandias? I just really hope that they capture the aesthetic of the comic rather than the big-budget aesthetic, you see the comic was a superhero story that was just nasty in it's aesthetic. It's not stylish, it looks like just a normal comic book but with something just askew, the colour palette just a little bit darker and in that lay one of the many layers of meaning in the comic book. I personally think it should only be made on a budget of 50M max to avoid it becoming just another big-budget superhero film. It's so...so much more than that. It's the antithesis of the normal comic book. God I hope they don't screw this one up. |

In my opinion, something I like to call "fact", The Watchmen was easily one of the best books of the 20th century. I have read it several times, and have developed an appreciation to the cruel, almost sadistic beauty that the book possesses. It has a combination of the sheer powerful imagery of A Clockwork Orange, with the nostalgia of a batman comic. It is a shining beacon of truth in a world filled with lies.
But in the end "Who will watch the Watchmen?" I also loved V for Vendetta, both the book and the movie, however the movie made huge changes, which made me originally disappointed. I thought that the changes were good, and provided for a more cinematic view, while still portraying a story filled with intense characterization I loved in the book. Will they do that to the Watchmen? I feel that The Watchmen doesn't need change. It is too good for it. "Who will watch the Watchmen?" Will such a story stay safe in the terrible bowless of Hollywood. Does this story still need to be told?
