It's well written (which is indeed a compliment) and I appreciate it, though I've heard heard the classical metal genre is being a bit overused, I don't let that damper my judgement. Path gets a solid 8/10 My song is: I Believe In Symmetry - Bright Eyes I know people moan and groan that Bright Eyes is emo. Sure it is, sometimes. Though the man can't sing too well, Conor is one of my favorite lyricists because of his grasp on writing, rhyme, symbolism and proper flow. EDIT: Booooourns at thread death. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1431 Joined: 9 Aug 2008 | I really like indie style music, and I actually liked this song. Real folky. I've never been a big fan of Bright Eyes, but it was nice. 8/10. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan The original and best version of the song. Also neat little Cowboy Bebop AMV to go with it. |

There's not much to discover after subsequent listens. 6/10 I Believe In Symmetry - Bright Eyes: The lyrics are pretty awesome and easy to appreciate with the music taking a backstage to the message being conveyed. However, the song itself doesn't float my boat enough, but I sense that it could grow on a listener quite easily. 7/10 |

I agree entirely that this Conor guy can't sing, but I have to disagree about his lyrics flowing. To me, it was halfway from smooth to disjointed. Writing was a different story; while depressingly strange, it had me listening. The words were also understandable, a feature that is hard to find in most music nowadays. Not my cup of tea, but I was able to listen to it without switching it off, so 6/10 for me. Now for something that is my cup of tea: The Real Thing by Russell Morris. Australian psychadelic 60's rock FTW! EDIT: I featured this song in particular because of the kickass piano riff in the second half. |

Bob dylan is classic. Conor has been compared to him on several occasions over the interwebs. I'm glad you enjoy the song. It's off an album that was focused more on a electronic sounds entitled "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn". While simultaneously he released "I'm wide awake It's Morning" which was an album focused strongly on acoustic and folksy songs. If you enjoy the folskyness, I suggest you check out Bowl of Oranges or We are nowhere and it's now. As for Dylan, can't give a classic anything less than a 10/10.
I can't deny it's emo. A lot of it is. But at least it's not the "whole wrist-cutting crawling in my skin emo". On subject matter I agree with you; the topics in most songs tend to vary. Personally I enjoy the flow of the words with the music. But that's me. As for "The Real Thing", I like. 8/10 |

Pretty good, not the sort of thing I usually listen to, but I liked it. 7/10. I present: I love this song and many others by Clutch because they just get my foot tapping and my head bobbing. And I like the singer's style and the guitar work too. |

I'll agree with that statement I suppose. It is only my first time hearing it but I really enjoyed it. I could see myself pursuing it outside this thread. A little backstory behind it would be nice. I tend to enjoy songs where the bassist sounds like he's breaking a sweat. In my eyes, it's a very underrated instrument and can change the whole mood of a song. Overall 9.2/10 In response, I suggest: Hey, Take It Easy! - Clap for Closure Yes, it's a local band made of of people that I went to elementary school with, as well as met during high school and college. I really enjoy their music and am curious to see what unbiased opinions have to say. The album in it's entirety was recorded in their own basement. |

Not something I would really seek out to listen to, but it was a nice, relaxing song. I listened to it all the way through and thought it was alright. 7/10 Probably one of the most amazing moments in music history. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2501 Joined: 3 Mar 2008 | LORD KRUNK REVIEWS: "Happy Hollow"? You didn't give much detail there. Instrumentally, this song is amazing. It has an awesome beat, is catchy and is incredibly well paced and written. I do however, have two problems: I don't really understand the lyrics, and the bits where his voice goes high-pitched and chanty sounds like a real blemish in what is otherwise an awesome song. A lyricless version of this song would be a delight to my ears. 8/10 for me. I will also thank you for introducing me to this song. EDIT: My song? Same as before. |

I had to use this link to see the video. Soapmakers - Clutch: I'm a sucker for guitar driven rock and that song definitely does. Mosh! ;-) 8/10 Thanks, man. Here's something right back at you... |

9. Great song there. |
Beat Writer Posts: 225 Joined: 22 Sep 2008 | Hmmm... 7/10. Listening to it, the song just seemed a lot longer than it really was, not necessarily in a good way. Almost like the band had three different songs they wanted to string together. However, the guitar playing was very interesting, and I rather enjoyed the end. Side note, I don't really care for people who sing with the punk-styled voice which this band's singer employs but that's just me. I remember watching that broadcast on TV back in the day; it was truly amazing. However, their music hasn't aged well with me and I honestly don't really care to hear their songs all that much any more, save for a few. 6/10 Happy now? ;-) |

That album is awesome, but the songs don't stand well on their own. I've tried to incorporate songs from the De-Loused album on mix CDs and it just doesn't work. Here's some classic, messy guitar work for you... |

Eh, it was ok. Not as heavy as I usually like stuff, and aside from that, it just didn't do anything to grab me. 5/10. Here's another: Destruction Overdrive by Black Label Society The frontman, Zakk Wylde, is Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist. He's just fuckin' nuts with an axe, and a great singer too, love BLS. |

Beat Writer Posts: 224 Joined: 11 Dec 2007 | Being a Canadian, I think it my moral duty to enjoy canadian artists that don't have the name Nickelback or celine dion. This wasn't my favourite song from K-OS, but this is the way I think rap music should have migrated to, not the crap you hear about making money. I would give this song a solid 8.5/10, its catchy, it has good lyrics, and K-OS is very talented. Now how about some Ska music for you guys to chew on: I present Mad Caddies - Backyard http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw0IY9mKIHo enjoy enjoy enjoy |

It's alright, not everyone can have good taste in music. =P I will say though that the music video has some odd editing. This is what it sounds like on the album. |

Just because I love to discuss music and talk about it on these here boards, I decided to copy an idea from another board and bring it here.
The idea is to post the URL link to YouTube video or MySpace account containing a song you wish for your fellow Escapists to hear. Then the next person replies, rates the song (scale of 1-10), discusses why they gave that rating (and I do mean discuss, don't just say "It sucked, 1/10") and then post their own video to be commented upon and rated. I will be making another thread for "metal" so we can keep the metalheads from clashing with everyone else.
So to get things started, I'll post my first link.
"Water & God" by All Get Out
BTW - if you post a myspace link, just identify the song you want to be heard.
