It might not be that Christianity is the most made fun of, it's just the one that you notice the most. Personally, I try to avoid "making fun" of any religion other than scientology, because there's no reason to insult someone's faith.

What I did was what most of the people who criticised Christianity on this thread have done. I made an incorrect generalization based on my own experiences. The average Christian and the average atheist are just that-average. They won't go "forcing their religion (or lack there of) down your throat."

In all honesty, I was trying to make the same point you were. We're arguing about how that point should be made, I think. I tried to make that point using examples and by trying to mirror some of hate towards Christianity that was expressed in previous posts. I suppose that this is the wrong method, because it can be easily misunderstood.

In my original post, I said that I enjoyed a Christian joke as much as the next guy, except when a joke or comment was made with malicious intent. I also pointed out some of the suffering that Christians have gone through, and some of the good things that Christians have done; these two things are often ignored by critics because then their hate figure isn't so hatable. That post got flak from two other people who basically said, "Told ya so," because I mentioned Christian persecution. In my responce, I went into the rant that set off this little argument between us.

Personally, I don't hate religious types at all. I do hate the ones that follow the word of the Bible or what have you and have absolutely no opinion of their own, they just follow blind faith. They seems to be all over the place on the internet so it gives regular Christians a bad name. They're as bad as the ones that try to convert you though. That pisses me off.
I do like to have a religious debate though, I like to hear about what other peoples belief systems are and such like. Sometimes I question them but not really out of malice, I want to know what makes different people tick. Don't mistake that for hostility.

You're mixing up something here. The Dark Ages were the chaotic time that followed the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. Much of the Roman knowledge and culture was lost during that time, but it was actually the Church that saved and preserved most of what survived.

It's mostly from the late Middle Ages onwards that the Church became a major obstacle for science.

I 'worship' (I give the odd prayer) to the Greek ACTUAL goddess Gaia, the goddess of Nature. ((I put Actual in there because all greek gods and such were Titans because they were born from the only two real gods Oranos (spelt wrong) and Gaia)) I see Christianity gets it all because like people say it's because they say things like you go to hell if you don't worship them and gays are bad. I'm bisexual you see so I find it horrible to hear on tv and forums but I know there is a lot of good christians out there helping people and I respect them so much it's unreal. Though another thing I have to not like about them is the way they say yes to some ideas and no to others. Waaaaay in the past they said yes to some science and medical treatments but when better things came along they brushed it off shouting "WITCHES! HERITICS! DESTROY ALL DEVIL WORKS!".

Then there is the corrupt preists throughout time that changed the 'holy' texts to meet their own means and such and to also spread their own propaganda to the religion.
