They didn't get respect, love, equality, or protection though. And they still don't. |
Beat Writer Posts: 217 Joined: 16 Jan 2008 | People who knock anything are usually either insecure or have little to zero knowledge of what they are knocking. Or they are on the "popular" bandwagon without giving it any real thought - they just bash something because everyone around them is. In all cases it is more a sign of a weak individual than anything, and a lack of respect to others who genuinely believe in something. The funny part....gamers who knock Jesus, a mystical ancient historical figure who wields magical forces.....hmmmm......let's see now - what are you gamers doing in many of your fantasy games? Pot kettle black irony irony irony. |

This is a really terrible argument unless you're intentionally trying to insult and belittle a man who is one of the most important people in the history of humanity. |
Paperboy Posts: 27 Joined: 8 Oct 2008 | Guys, to reply to both your problems, when people become christians, they cast away the old selves they were and are born again, new creations in the sight of God. The fact that they did not share their new discovery is unfortunate and that's what they should have done right off the bat. My heart goes out to you for the way they treated you guys. |

Far from it. I am insulting and belittling gamers who like the fantasy genre and yet like to take a stab at one of the most important people in the history of humanity - that stab being that he did "magic". |

Don't worry, this thread will go for another 10 pages yet. Im rapidly starting to think myself above religion and atheism. I don't have the faith for either. User was put on probation for: Kid loses Xbox, runs away, dies in a field.. (7 days) |

That's not entirely true. People knock things for a variety of reasons, and it does not always show a weak individual. It all depends on how they knock them. If they do so with evidence to back up their arguments or a personal reason for doing so, then if you ask me they are a stronger individual than one who refuses to say anything. |

You do realize that gamers don't think the magic wielding people they're playing as actually exist right? |
Beat Writer Posts: 217 Joined: 16 Jan 2008 |
I said usually - not always :-) A personal reason to bash something - is the only valid one - the "evidence" reason - what "evidence" can argue against religion?? Surely you know that religion is based moreso on faith and a belief than things you can touch right in front of your face. Evidence and religion are at opposite ends of the rainbow. |

Sorry, I didn't mean evidence as to religion, I meant evidence in knocking things in general. And true, there cannot be any irrefutable evidence for or against religion, but that won't stop people from trying to find some. |

Let me make an analogy your simple mind can understand. During the day, I outwardly knock and bash world war veterans and soldiers because I am anti-war. At night, I play Call of Duty and Brothers in Arms. Get it now? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2481 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 |
Even ignoring that this analogy doesn't correctly relate back to your original analogy, there's nothing hypocritical about being anti-war and enjoying Call of Duty. Unless you want to argue that by playing Call of Duty, you're proving the existence of World War 2 soldiers. |

I think following his "logic" on this one it would be a bad idea to play Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth... Meanwhile on topic: There are many reasons why people decry Christians. I for one have had much experience with questionable practices amongst Christian, especially Baptists. I know that at the Christian high school I attended that the views being beaten into myself and others were varying from wrong, excessively conservative or just plain stupid. I noticed that the easiest way for Christians to get employment is simply to be related to, or attend the same church as the interviewer. |

There's nothing hypocritical about being anti-war and enjoying call of duty? What drugs are you on? This is how pathetic society has become - no line in the sand anymore, everything is diluted. I can say one thing and do another, even if they conflict huh? A game might JUST be entertainment, but it is also the embracing of a CONCEPT while you are immersed in it. One you probably spent MONEY on, not just TIME. To play something you are outwardly against - reeks of hypocritical overload. Now excuse me while I go and buy Safari, a game where I shoot animals for fun. Just don't tell my wife who knows I am an animal liberationist actively involved in half a dozen animal rescue causes. |

I wish you would speak yourself when it comes to your inability to divorce your personal thoughts from external perception. I've reached the point in my life where I can take a nuanced approach to perception and cognition. Just because you haven't doesn't mean you have to drag the rest of us down with you. For example: do you feel like you want to be a serial killer when watching Hannibal or something? I suppose not everyone is as
And I'm not sure why you're comparing a form of purely harmless entertainment with one of the most horrific acts mankind has ever committed against itself. You really have a way with analogies :] And it's amusing that you decided to use a nonsensical and ranting copout to turn the discussion away from your original and rather poorly designed analogy about how an athiest playing an RPG is being hypocritical. |

Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 21 Jul 2008 | Hate on Christianity is not new, Christianity been around for a little over 2000 years it has grown and changed since its' conception. People hate on Christianity for a verity of reasons ranging from personal to impractical. Keep in mind that Christianity is also the biggest religion on the planet now why hate.. well it is in people nature to hate or disprove in any set of ideals or values that differ from their own. It as simple and mindless as that. Every reason for hate can be explain as such. |

I haven't laughed so hard in ages. Thanks. This new bewildering use of the English language to make yourself sound smart would make a good signature that's for sure! |
Copy Clerk Posts: 104 Joined: 22 Jul 2008 | Because Christianity is a very easy target. Since Muslims and Jews are minorities in most the Western world so bashing them would be interpented as racism. Christians, however, take up a high percentage of the population of most Western countries (especially America) ranting about them isn't such a problem. Personally I am an atheïst but I do not have any problem with any religion. People may think what they want and blaming religion for what is wrong in the world id just stupid. Religion, just like political ideologies, can be very easily be used to make war but also to make peace. |

Well, you've been the one offering the ridiculous idea that everyone who plays video games also believes that their internal rules somehow apply to the real world. I can enjoy a fantasy game because it's not realistic. That doesn't mean I have to believe in flying spaghetti monsters. |

Beat Writer Posts: 182 Joined: 31 Aug 2008 | This is frustrating, because a thread I set up to actually start explaining Christian issues or misconceptions is shut down and forces me into this detritus of petty argument. Anyhoo, I think we've come to the conclusion that people do target Christianity because they feel like it - specifically because they can't be called intolerant for doing so. |

Beat Writer Posts: 144 Joined: 27 Jul 2008 | I have a problem with Religion and with Faith. If you've ever read 1984, then you know exactly how I feel about Faith. The human mind is an incredible thing. It is so incredible that it truly can believe anything it wants to. Hence the idiocracy of Religion. Religion used to not be 'Religion' if that makes any sense. The real problem with modern relgion is that it is collapsing as a political agenda pushing force under the sheer weight of people finally getting an education. This is it's dying gasp. And I will be there, with my hand around it's throat, making sure this is it's LAST breath. Although I acknowledge the fact that people's feelings are being hurt, but frankly I don't care. If you're a religious person, or have ANY inclination towards beliving in divinity of any form, in my opinion you are a psychopath and don't want to contribute to the human species at all. You'd just be a frightened little ape-cousin, trembling at the thunder gods hiding in the long grass. If humans want to be superior to animals, then they actually have to BE better. And until we (to use a totally un-PC term) man-up, expect sympathy/0 from me. |

That picture was quite fun. To get on topic I would say that, as have been suggested, take things to serious. That picture did indeed contain Jesus, but I would say that it is a joke concerning republicans and their hijacking of said Messiah and their perversion of his teachings. |

I like to think of us as noble anchors in the storm, keeping a perspective at least occasionally through the thread. While TheDean and his type takes fire and brimstone to the believer... and the english language. Seriously Deano my boy, can you run that through a spellchecker? It hurts to read, and its not that hard to fix. User was put on probation for: Kid loses Xbox, runs away, dies in a field.. (7 days) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2491 Joined: 3 Mar 2008 | Now, personally, I would have to say that when I see preachers on the streets (I saw a couple today), the first word I think of is "Loony". I also consider the Old Testament God to be a hypocritical dickhead. But, so long as you don't blatantly advertise it and shun everyone outside Christianity (Even the other forms, such as Judaism and Catholicism/Protestantism), I'm fine with it. It's just that they seem to do exactly that. P.S. I'm a Deist. |
Yeah, no Iknew you weren't mad, some other guy I thought I was replying to, I accidently replied to yours instead, that was a mistake on my part
