The stuff they have today is so poorly made, and really talks down to it's audience. We all know kids aren't the smartest bunch, but come on... Cartoons aren't supposed to throw it in their face like that. |

But for the old school stuff like G.I. Joe and Gargoyles? Yeah, I haven't seen stuff like that for kids in a long time. |

I pity the children of today who only have shit like Spongebob to watch & no classics like Count Duckula, Wacky Racers, He-Man or Thundercats. I know you could argue that I shouldn't think modern cartoons are good, since they're made for children & shouldn't appeal to an adult, but they're still shit. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 439 Joined: 15 Dec 2007 | im not sure about that errorfied, have you checked G.I. Joe sigma 6? that thing is just a anime rip-off if we talk about artwork |

I said that we were starting to get over it. It's not as bad as it once was; still kinda bad. If only Pokémon and Dragonball Z and their innumerable cohorts had known what they were condemning us to. |

jeje i dont like avatar... maybe you guy dont like it ... but the fairly odd parents are funny to me... and dave the barbarian jajaja XD |
Press Junketeer Posts: 443 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | Wait, did somebody actually defend Wacky Racers? That show had no decent humor and followed a set pattern more religiously than filler Pokemon episodes. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3806 Joined: 29 Nov 2007 | Spongebob is the most awesomest cartoon ever. If I could marry Spongebob, I totally would. |

Oh c'mon, The Slag Brothers and Penelope Pitstop having a vibrator in her car? |
Press Junketeer Posts: 443 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | I don't remember that second part. Probably censored out of the Boomerang version of the show if I tried to watch it anyway. |

I will back up this most Necro of swansons on this. But I still remember the good ol' cartoons (though wacky racers was a little before my time.) Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly dog, the old episodes of Rugrats and Angry Beavers aren't on anymore where I live, but by god would still I watch them if they were. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 408 Joined: 16 May 2008 |
Hell yes. Angry Beavers was great. I Am Weasel wasn't bad, either. I miss the old BatMan cartoons too, even though sometimes they used to creep me out as a kid. But man, the theme music.. So cool. |

You are forgetting Rocko's modern life, Two stupid dogs and Ren and stimpy. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 460 Joined: 12 Sep 2008 | I'm surprised so many people agree lol. Yeah, modern cartoons "for kids" really suck these days. It could be because I'm not a small child anymore, but I still do enjoy watching the cartoons I grew up with, so I don't think that's the reason. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3903 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | I agree that SpongeBob is good, but I am a HUGE fan of Fairly Odd Parents. I watch it whenever it is on. But other than those, I rarely find any good cartoons on. I never cared for Looney Toons after about age 11. Just so repetitive. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2034 Joined: 16 May 2008 | the problem isn't necessarily with the quality of the shows. I've watched some of them, and they're actually half decent. The problem may in fact be that kids don't need cartoons as much these days. Back when we were kids, what did we have? Cartoons. If we were lucky, we had a nintendo. If we were REALLY lucky we had a computer too. If we were VERY VERY lucky, we might have had a zippy 28.8 modem in it. Nowadays, kids are wired out the wazoo. Cell phones, superfast internet (with more and more stuff to actually do on it). pretty much every kid has a super powerful console, even the last gen consoles were vastly superior to anything we had growing up. Cartoons are just a much smaller part of kids lives today. |

No I'm not. I never liked those shows. Especially Cat Dog, god I hated Cat Dog... But now, looking at other people's posts. I also wish to add the old batman cartoons, The Fairly Oddparents and (though this has not been mentioned) The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (and definately also Evil Concarne) Though the last two may not be considered "old cartoons" Also I watch Southpark, which is weird because I didn't watch it as a kid, somehow I've become more immature as I grow older. |

Then what you mean to say is kids NEED cartoons. This digital age we raise our kids on has spawned those monsters on Xbox Live and Counterstrike. |

Have you tried watching most of that stuff today? It doesn't hold up well over time, most of them are repetively formulaic and sluggishly boring. |
Beat Writer Posts: 201 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | I think the reason high quality cartoons are dieing is because they are all trying to teach kids everything about life. They even state what the show is supposed to teach kids befor it starts. It looks like at some point someone just said that kids shows can't be to entertain kids anymore, every single one has to teach the same lesson over and over agian. |

I still watch Jamie and the Magic Torch, Bagpuss, Powerpuff Girls and, of course, Looney Tunes and they're still made of win. I challenge ANYONE not to applaud after watching The Cat Concerto or Cue Ball Cat. |
Muckraker Posts: 349 Joined: 8 Dec 2007 | There are good modern cartoons, it's just with such a massive amount to choose from, of course you're going to get some shit. A selection of good cartoons from the last few years: Dexter's Lab, Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy, Johnny Bravo, Invader Zim, Fairly Odd Parents, Dave The Barbarian and others I can't remember right now. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 369 Joined: 4 Jul 2008 | Nick is the only station with anything good on anymore. anything on (cartoon) network is crap.honestly. And,like so many of you,i miss the days of Ed,Edd,and eddy,Angry beavers, looney toons, and of course... DROOPY DOG! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1039 Joined: 10 Oct 2008 | No, cartoons are not dieing, you just have to know where to look. The new cartoon "The Secret Saturdays" on Cartoon Network is pretty damn cool. Also, "Ben 10: Alien Force" is very awesome. On the other hand the new "Transformers:Animated" is an abortion that should be shoved back in the the hole from where it came. I downloaded every old G1 Transformers cartoon for my 9 year old daughter just to show her why the new cartoon sucks a dead monkey's choad. I am also hoping that Harmony Gold continues along with the success of Robotech:The Shadow Chronicles. That shit was AWESOME!!! I just wish they would ditch the 3d part and hand draw the space mech battle again. :( That is my only slight against it. |
