Forbidden Planet always freaks me out because I can't take Leslie Nielsen seriously in it. I keep expecting a "Surely you can't be serious" line; but Forbidden Planet 'borrowed' a lot of it's tech from other shows though. Chatsworth House is a lovely place though. |

Leslie Nielsen serious... it was disconcerting, but he was a serious actor before he did Police Squad, which was later the basis for the Naked Gun movies. I still love Robbie the Robot tho. Best movie robot ever. |

And how about this, doctor who's next partner isn't another idiot from present day london. How about someone from the 13th century, or the 143rd century. All this saving planet earth bollocks is getting on my nerves. OK, now everyone knows aliens exist, right? So lets set up some kinda space agency to go forth and kick some ass? Ala torchwood. |

I've loved this show since I was a kid and always wondered why none of my friends have never heard of it. It's just the Atlantic and it's a big thing. I do agree with Typecast that the new series is retreading old ground too much, but they need all the old baddies in the new Doctor Who to make old fans happy, and just because they need some old stuff. Seriously though, why are there so many Daleks? If the Time Wars killed all of both sides, why is there one Time Lord and an infinite supply of Daleks? What must insurance cost in London? It gets invaded every other week. |

I looked to see if I could rent some dvd's but there were none to be found at Blockbuster, sadly. And the dvd sets I saw for purchase were really expensive :/ |

Lol, amusingly, both the films me and my friends did were filmed in an abandoned quarry near one of their houses. They are good for filming desolate looking landscapes!
As evidence of what can be done with old special effects tho, watch forbidden planet, it had a bit more funding then Dr. Who for sure, but it can stand up to todays special effects (excluding the monster that was drawn on the film frame by frame)
I'll see if I can get hold of the old stuff off my mate that did the filming, he did a Film Making/Animation degree and is off living it up in London somewhere now!
Another bad thing about UK productions is all the taxs and licences these days, since Labour came to power they slowly got rid of loop holes and added more requirements to be met over the last few years. Effectively this has killed the film industry in the UK, which is why its more or less limited to game shows, reality tv and the occation period drama filmed at Chatsworth House/Kedleston Hall (Seriously, they're practically ALL filmed at those two places!)
