It is obvious that Shannon has never logged into The Sims Online and actually seen what was in the game. I personally think she has judged this game and confused it with another online virtual game put out named Second Life.

Recently with the announcement by Electric Arts on the closing of our beloved game The Sims Online, I have for the first time had to look for a new virtual home. I have tried different games to see if there was anything out there that I could enjoy as much as I love and enjoy The Sims Online. The answer to this was very quickly answered as NO. I actually tried the Second Life and was horrified to the amount of porn in the game. It is not a clean and family enviroment as The Sims Online is.

As to the reasons behind the failure as Shannon states of The Sims Online, well this really also to me a laugh. The failure is on EA executives that never put any effort into making The Sims Online succeed. In reality its almost like a sabotage of a game that could of been 100 times better then Second Life, if Electric Arts actually took the time to listen to its subscribers. For years we had no updates or upgrades to the game. There were bugs after bugs reported and issues that players asked to get fixed. Yet we kept on playing, why.. because the game is fun and we all became part of a great online family/community. We would rather play in a bug infested game then loose our game. We continued to pay our monthly subscription each month. Which EA had no issue in taking.

We then saw a light pop up one day, when announcement came that EA was going to finally upgrading our beloved game. Brining in a group of very talented people to help us get some of issues taken care of and new upgrades to improve the game. Boy were we gullible to believe in their lies. Yes we did have a great group of 19 Developers that worked overtime to get the game updated. A group that was listening but yet had constraints due to what EA put on them. They even helped us off work hours in game with issues that players were having. After years of nothing, the players had hope.

New updates and upgrades came with a lot of issues, yet we stuck by the developers and the game we all became a online family in. EA even sent out emails to old players announcing the improvements with promises of great things on the way. We had thousands come back to only find more promises broken by EA. We had many new players join as free members in hope in joining our online community.

Even with all the glitches and bugs everyone continued on with hopes and promises by EA of fixes and updates. Until a very sad day on April 28,2008 when EA announced to The Sims Online community they were shutting the doors. What a sad day it was, to top it off they insulted the community by calling us an experiment that failed. I am sorry, but this game was not an experiment... It was a game full of people that have built relationships in their virtual world. Established friendships in and out of game, built up businesses, and spent countless hours and money (yes Real money in some cases) on custom content for the game.

EA never came through for our game. Many in the community have different views on the failure of this game. But one thing we all know and feel is that EA failed the game not the game failing EA. By them giving no updates to this game, and then having a small team try to revamp it in a very short time. Which brought many issues on a daily basis. They never advertised the game. That alone I guess says a lot on what EA had plans for. How i see it is that EA wanted to separate the game name.... The Sims Online from the other PC versions of The Sims. To do this, they changed the name to what is now called - EALand.... this way it would be easier to close down our game since they would now be closing down EAland not The Sims Online. WRONG... We, The Sims Online players will not go down without a fight. Even after censoring us from their blog, we keep the fight going. Players banded together to save our beloved game. But back to who failed who and what. Electric Arts failed The Sims Online and its subscribers for years and even more so in the announcement of the game closing. They had a great game in their hands but never did anything to make it what it could be. Electric Arts has failed in many games in the past.. but this one they are failing in many virtual players minds. With statements from their EA executives saying that research shows that players don't like to play together. This to me is a laugh, since the huge community of online gamers in all different platforms available. Even in a similar game (yet very very different) of Second Life with millions not only individuals but companies to WOW. The difference with those companies and EA is that they listen to their subscribers and give the games updates and upgrades on a regular basis which keeps their subscribers happy and coming back for more. If EA actually did that never mind advertise, The Sims Online would of succeeded and would not be up for the chopping block on August 1,2008.

Keep in mind that we had well over 1100 signatures two days ago before they squashed our original petition. Can you say censoring us won't stop us?

1) You can comment on the actual article next time.
2) The article was written in 2006.
3) Shannon Drake is a guy.
4) Online petitions don't work.
