(6) Turbine vs. (2) Capcom:

Turbine: With a tagline like "Powered by Our Fans" on the Turbine homepage, I have to agree seeing the votes Turbine got, bringing them to the next level of play. Can the Turbine community overpower Capcom?
Capcom: Capcom gave Arkane the big Hadouken! and knocked the studio out of the tournament, bringing Capcom one step closer to the main stage.

Turbine actually listens to it's fanbase...something that all other game developers need to emulate.

Agreed, Turbine's tech support and evolution of MMO's based on (the good and rational side) of community feedback is excellent.

MegaMan, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Breath of Fire, Dead Rising. I just can't say no to Capcom in this case.

I've never played a game by Turbine, and Capcom owned a share of my pocket for a looooong time. Capcom it is.

Voting against Turbine to offset the onslaught of rabid Turbine fans from Turbine's website.

Over the last year and a half Turbine has engaged me like no other gaming company. Failures of the past have been long overshadowed by the excellent talent and willingness to listen to player desires (and implement them!) by the LOTRO dev team. Turbine all the way!!!

If Capcom's best latest game is none other than Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, then they'll never get my vote. This is a TODAY developer's tourney, may the best developer today win. Turbine actually has good development and accomplished a lot with the lore-rich Lord of the Rings Online. My hat off to them.

Turbine in my book. They are a straight up developer and they do some excellent work.

Same; I've seen less sockpuppetry or fan manipulation from damn Wikipedia.

Doesn't the fact that so many players were so easily convinced to vote for them tell you something?

Turbine, again; or still.

Back when there were only three MMOs, of which Asheron's Call was the third, I read an article pointing out that most game companies (MMO and other) were founded by entrepreneurs in suits who figured, "People are spending money on games; let's start a game company and make some money." But Turbine was started, on the proverbial shoestring in the proverbial back bedroom, by gamers. I bet there are other gamer-founded game companies by now, but in the late nineties Turbine was just about unique. And Dean's right -- they *listen* to us.

I like Turbine, as I like Lotro DDO and the same.
Also a Turbine of online games is not a good feeling.
But Lotro enough for the DDO and I fell in love with Turbine

Definitely. I can actually never decide whether this sort of show of support is good or bad. Evidently the Turbine community cares about their company's reputation; even to the extent of being committed to winning a small, fun, forum contest. You have to admire the reciprocal loyalty between customer and developer here, even through this small show of support. But the vast majority of people may well never post on the Escapist again. That's the thing, I guess, I'm worried about.

I'm actually gonna try and tag along some, whatever thay may mean. And a lot of people here are right, the Turbine devs actually give some thought to feedback received on the forums so they get my vote.

I am definitely doing the same thing.. it is sort of unethical what Turbine is doing. Capcom does not make online games where they can alert all of their fans to vote for them. I would bet 100% that more people know and like Capcom more than Turbine.

This whole bracket is flawed for that reason

This bracket isn't flawed. Capcom has a website AND a community tab, just like Turbine does. Also, it doesn't matter who KNOWS whom better, it's who is a better developer and I bet you more people have played LotR that Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet put together. Turbine actually got my vote because they did a pretty decent job at LotR and didn't botch an epic story up like some other developer that already lost *cough* Star Wars Galaxies *cough*. If they had brought out Street Fighter IV 3 months ago, this may be a different race.

I learned of The Escapist through Turbine, and because of them linking me to the site, I'll surely be back. That's got to be worth something to The Escapist, does it not? I will say that the benefits aren't perfectly balanced however.

Voting for Turbine. I have played nearly every major MMO title out on the market now. None of them have been so engrossing as DDO has been for me. And if people think that Turbine is the only company thats advertised this little competition, those people are sorely mistaken...

I've been "gaming" and a dedicated video gamer since before the Atari 2600, and I can honestly say that Turbine has given me personally the BEST customer service I've ever received from a game development company.

Yeah, I heard about this bracket from the LOTRO website, so what? Because of the way Turbine has treated me as a customer over the years I've made it a point to come here and vote for them in Round 1, Round 2, and now Round 3.

It's called Customer Loyalty...

Something I guarantee to you any of the companies involved in this tourney would be ecstatic to have generated.

how many times a week does capcom fans go to their website? probably not more than once a year. When I play a capcom game, is there a thing that pops up and says vote for capcom? no when I play a capcom game i'm not using a computer. Turbine tells you to vote for their game when you log in to play their game on a computer.. it is definitely an unfair advantage.. and if Turbine wins it really does not mean anything.

You know, I hadn't noticed one, so I just started the launcher for LOTRO to see if I might have missed it and guess what? In the area of recent messages on the launcher there was a notice for upcoming maintenance, an advisory about maintaining account security, and some past messages about the announcement of the upcoming expansion pack and patches...NO WHERE WHEN I LOGGED ON WAS THERE A POP-UP ADVISING ME TO LEMMING MY WAY HERE TO VOTE...so there goes that point of your conspiracy theory up in smoke...

jrr6415sun:

Again FALSE, since there is no mythical pop-up telling me to come here. The only notice I saw about this whole tourney was on the LOTRO WEBSITE last week when the tourney started. There is a big difference between a blurb in the news section of a COMPANY'S WEBSITE which it's customers frequent and this Tyrannical Pop-Up Voting Adviser you seem to think exists. And as someone else said, I do believe Capcom has a website for their customers to check out also...

jrr6415sun:
...and if Turbine wins it really does not mean anything.

Other than the fact that Good Customer Service generates Customer Loyalty...deal with it.

Turbine has the best customer service of any game I have played. I'd never played an MMO prior to LotRO based on the horror stories of immaturity I received from my friends. However, those same friends recommended LotRO to me, and I thought I'd try it out. Not only is the world gorgeous, the story lines are amazing (for a game), and there aren't very many immature 12-year-olds just playing to bug the living hell out of you.

I had a problem with a bugged quest in-game, and the GM was very nice and solved it. Over the past few months Turbine has implemented quite a variety of user suggestions: THEY LISTEN TO THEIR CUSTOMERS! The developers frequently interact with players on the forums.

So Turbine all the way.

P.S. And for the record, I did come to vote based off a thread in the LotRO forums. However there is nothing about the voting in the launcher for the actual game itself. And also, I am quite glad to have had the chance to peruse this site (and forums). I may very well start posting here on a regular basis. I would disagree that Turbine having a link to the voting on their forums is unfair...Capcom (and any other company, or person with a webdite) can do the same thing. It would be unfair if it's in the game itself, but it is not. I'd think you guys would be happy for the free advertisement...

A double edged sword.
A huge influx of posting, turning into a long term, dedicated set of forum posters ends up causing bandwidth, and server load issues.
IDK about your setup here, but I've seen more than one popular Forum topple under the weight of it's overall post count. A lot of beautifully written work went into the ether.
Enjoy the 15 minutes. :D
edit:
Oh yeah, TURBIN ROCKS! :-)
