Yes, the Jedi Civil war is covered in the Darth Bane novels as well as KOTOR 1 and 2. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4486 Joined: 23 Dec 2007 | Clone wars. That way I have more chance of being popular without an evil empire looming over me. At least for a little while. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 936 Joined: 27 Jan 2008 | Old Republic. Mandalorian Wars. Definitely. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 493 Joined: 22 Apr 2008 | clone wars. because i haven't played KOTOR and I don't know what's going on in it. and there's not much room for addition in the galactic civil war. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2185 Joined: 4 Nov 2007 | I voted post-Endor, pre-New Republic, but there are several eras I love just as well. Movie era is good so long as you stay away from the movie canon and do something new. Clone wars might be alright, but I have to say my 9 year old self had better ideas for that war than Lucas did. KOTOR 1 Star Wars ain't bad either. |
Paperboy Posts: 35 Joined: 2 Apr 2008 | Best era for Star War original roleplay would be that pretty blank period during the empires establisment, and luke realising he's a Jedi. It allows people to play Jedi, but limits the number of them. It also means that those Jedi characters will have to be less "Run in slashing everything and throwing your grandmother into a gigantic pit of doom", and more subtle. As if they reveal themselves they get a whole heap of imperial whoopass down on them. But that's not a selectable period, so eh. |

I have a sith in mind for both periods so i really dosen't matter. Also both time periods i mentioned have places were there is peace. |

I don't care how many of you are Jedi... But know this. If more than 20% of the group is Jedi, you are leading a strike on Myrkr... Think real hard on who is going to be a Jedi... As to movie or Expanded Universe settings, the whole thing is open because even though we CAN act in the movie timeline, you are all going to be a group of rebels, soldiers, mercenaries, bounty hunters, smugglers, or whatever you want, but I WILL NOT LET THE MAIN HEROES BE PLAYABLE. Luke, Han, Lando, Leia, C-3PO, R2D2, etc, will not be appearing in this RP, unless we do a Battle Recreation. At which point they will have one or two lines and never be seen again. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2113 Joined: 14 Sep 2007 | The, uh, the one with the lightsabers. ... I don't know much about the Expanded Universe, okay? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3903 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | There have been stories of people with no Force Powers using a Lightsaber. You can be a mercenary with a lightsaber, but beware, many people see it as an indication of Jedi Heritage, so in the Empire, it would likely draw more attention to a strike force, and make things unusually hard... Copter, as far as you are concerned, the storyline doesn't matter, if you want to be a Jedi, you can be... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2717 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | Oh how about we be really original and creative and have the fall of the second republic, set many years after the events of The Return of the Jedi, the setting? This way everything will be mush more creative and not bounded by the storyline. You (mobius) could create how the Republic falls (it doesn't have to involve sith), what replaces it (anarchy maybe) and what role our characters have in the events surrounding the fall and after it. Hmmm what do ya think? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3903 Joined: 26 Feb 2008 | Um, The New Republic Fell under the Yuuzhan Vong onslaught... And the Galactic Alliance is probably going to fall under Jacen's corrupting influence... There is so much room for an expanded story though... Say, 200 years After the Empire surrenders... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2717 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | 200 years sounds good. This sounds like the right amount of time for new major events to have occurred while also being able to retain aspects of the previous titles (such as an Empire cult or something). By doing this the players will not have to fall back on related material to understand the plot but the plot will also be set outside of the conventional setting. I would also like to say that I would like to be in the RP. Maybe as a Merc (Jedi have no fun). |
Muckraker Posts: 276 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | I did a New Jedi Order game once and it was incredibly fun. I mostly ended up shooting my teammates on bad rolls and had to play lawyer for our giant hairy killing machine, but it was always fun. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 59 Joined: 28 Nov 2007 | My favourite era has to be between episodes 4 and 5. I think it is possible one of the most dynamic in the Star Wars saga, as well as one of the most unexplored. It's just when the rebellion is getting started, the Empire is changing dramatically and people are beginning to see the Emperor's true colours, the Jedi are at an all time low (dont get me wrong, I love Jedi, but I love sporadic Jedi a hell of a lot more). I'm not sure what the obsession with a the Old Republic is myself. I mean, I've played KotOR and I thought it was a good RPG, but I rarely felt like I was in a Star Wars game. The books are a bit 'meh' around that period as well. I've watched, read and played just about everything Star Wars there is, and I really have never felt as immersed as I did in the few ABY years before episode 5. Also, I think if this DID go forward, people are gonna be a lot more familiar with the world and the goings on(ABY 0-3), which would make a more flowing and intergrated experience. Edit - Oh, and just to add, I completely appreciate that the 'heroes' won't be playable, but I think a few NPC cameos would go a long way. Especially for those of us who would like to join the fledgling Rebellion. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 391 Joined: 31 Oct 2007 | Yeah i'd love to play a smuggler or a bounty hunter, yeah they may be the scum of the galaxy but playing one would be fun. And ideally i'd like to play in the times of the Empire between Revenge of the Sith and New Hope (but no vote on that one) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1139 Joined: 16 Jan 2008 | We could carry out a twist on the stereotypes. I can an evil arms-smuggler, supplying gang wars and drug lords, you can be a virtuous bounty hunter out to stop me! |

BBY - Before the Battle of Yavin ABY - After the Battle of Yavin It's used as a point for dating the Star Wars universe, due to it's significance. |

hehe yeah could have some fun with this, a little like Spike crossed with Boba Fett. Though even Solo was a drug dealing scumbag, reminds me of the scene from Human Traffic when they are talking about Star Wars http://www.videosift.com/video/Human-Traffic-Star-Wars-Theory-on-Ecstasy |

This will eventually turn into a roleplay when enough people sign up. I don't intend to have any of the main heroes from the movies as playable characters or even in the roleplay except where ABSOLUTELY required (Q.E.D. If we do the Second Death Star battle, we will need to have Ackbar and Lando appear to give orders, but they won't be playable, and they will only have a few lines...). Also, you can have any characters you want. Rogue Jedi during the Clone or Jedi Civil Wars, Smuggler, Assassin, Bounty Hunter, Rebel (Separatist if we do Clone Wars)... The limit is your imagination... I would prefer Clone wars or newer as that is the time I am MOST familiar with, but it is entirely up to you.
