Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 722 Joined: 22 Mar 2008 | Saren recieved Gremlins message while leaning back on her chair, and she flipped her buzzing phone open. Reading quickly, she began to reply with the coordinates of the warehouse. As she finished her message, she added that she would be heading towards the meeting point. 'No good if this guy is better than we all thought, and that his moved Ashely or even worse, killed her.' Saren typed, and she sent the message. Looking towards the bars clock, she saw that she only had half an hour left to greet the bounty hunter. Standing, she headed to Rubens office where Ruben had said he would get the money. She knocked, and Ruben opened the door with a grim smile. He gave Saren the briefcase, and it hit the floor as Saren leapt into a full bodied hug with Ruben. It only lasted a few moments, and then Saren let go and headed outside the bar with case in hand. Along the way, while waiting for her train, she slipt a tracking device into the case. 'One of Rains high tech toys he gave me, sure hope its as good as he said it was' Saren thought grimly, and watched as the silver exterior of the train came slowing down. It stopped, and Saren entered. ~ The city square was a large, natural place of sorts. Surrounded by some of the city's greatest and tallest buildings, Saren barely had time to examine the abundant exotic plantlife as she frantically scanned the crowd for her meeting partner. Looking at her phones clock, she noticed that she still had ten minutes to go before the stalker had said the extraction would take place. Frantically tapping her foot, she stood within the bustle of human traffic as time ticked slowly away. OOC: So, I leave it up to you on how you find Ashely. Maybe she is being guarded, maybe she isnt there, maybe she is unconcious, who knows. Its your call Gremlin. Just as long as it isnt too severe, then its good. |

Dust covered all the surfaces, lights flicked on as the automated systems detected the beacon within the key. Opening his backpack Zalis drew out a tripwire and placed it on the now closed door, a warning in case of attack. Connecting his arm to a power source to be sure it was charged he lay down on a bed. 'Not bad, but I miss my house' he thought as he fell asleep. OOC: I guess I'm going for Maeror Hill (sorrow) because the killer has it in for Cybernet, and he doesn't like cyber-tech. Not a big leap of logic. |

I'm going to go for Maeror Hill, because of reasoning that is kind of out of character, i.e. that he's one of the only inactive players who hasn't been killed off by our skillful GM yet. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 964 Joined: 16 Jan 2008 | Gremlin swore as he received the message. So much for getting Ashley before the exchange; he'd have to try and watch over Saren during it. "Knew she was gonna be hard to look after!" he cursed as he sprinted out of the apartment, heading for his own. Luckily, it wasn't far, and before long he was in his makeshift armoury, grabbing a grubby sniper rifle and some body armour. Five minutes later, he was closing on the area, scanning for a suitable rooftop. He spied a likely looking building, tall but not quite as posh as the ones around it, and leapt for the fire escape, hammering up towards the roof. He was careful to be on the side of the building that wasn't visible from the square - their friend would certainly be watching and a heavily armed lizard scaling the side of a building might have been a give-away. He slowed down, becoming quieter as he reached the top; the assassin may well already be up there. Glancing over the edge of the roof, the top was clear. Gremlin hefted his rifle over the edge and scanned the visible rooftops. They all seemed to be clear too. Vaulting up, he edged to the side of the roof, lay down and got comfortable, and began scanning the square through his scope. With two minutes to go, he sighted Saren, and breathed a sigh of relief. So she hadn't managed to get herself killed yet, that was good. Now where was he? Gremlin returned to scanning the square. The deadline arrived, and he still couldn't see anything. People were milling around, Gremlin noticed a bus dropping off tourists at the edge of the greenery via a road between buildings. He frowned, and sighted through the bus's window. Sure enough, there was Ashley, looking a little worse the wear and accompanied by a remarkably large mercenary. They might've passed for father and daughter, if you were blind, but the Merc seemed big enough that people didn't question. However, it was not their assassin. The bus stopped, and the mercenary hauled Ashley to her feet and roughly led her off the bus. Gremlin noticed a squarish bulge around Ashley's chest. So the bomb was still there. Steadying his breathing, Gremlin settled his crosshair between the giant's eyes. Beside his head, something hit the ground very hard. Slowly glancing sideways, Gremlin saw a cybernetic fist, clutched around a detonator. Oh dear. A voice hissed in ear. "I thought I told her to come alone, scaley." Time seem to slow down as Gremlin glanced between the detonator and down his scope. The detonator's button was covered in a perspex case. He could manage this. A faint smile appeared on the lizard's features as he squeezed the trigger, and the mercenary's head exploded, as he had been nearing Saren, still hauling Ashley. At the same time, Gremlin's tail whipped up, striking the detonator out of the Assassin's hand. It rolled across the rooftop, and fell into a vent shaft. Ashley and Saren were safe. It suddenly occurred to him that he, however, wasn't. It also occurred that Ashley still had a bomb attached to her, but Gremlin didn't have much time to consider this as a very angry cybernetic grabbed him by the neck and threw him across the rooftop. OOC: Well now I'm in the poo. Hope that wasn't too bad, you're still in a bit of peril. And yeah, lets cap Maeror. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3353 Joined: 2 Dec 2007 | Story: Thrown across the building, Gremlin slammed into the ground with a hard thud. The cybernetic obviously had muscle implants on his body. The robotic figure, slightly see-through and misted in shadow, leaped across the rooftops at Gremlin. He landed with his fist buried deep into the lizard's ribcage. A vomit of blood projected out of Gremlins mouth as he lay on the ground clutching his chest. Saren looked at Ashley, who was shaking after the being covered in the merc's brain matter. Saren began to unwire the bomb around her chest unknowing of the danger Gremlin was in. The assassin picked up the sniper rifle. Gremlin got to his feet, still shaking out of pain, and raised his own pistol to combat the cybernetic. Gremlin took a few steps back and collapsed on the roof. The assassin leveled its gun at Ashley now. Taking no chances, it took its time to get a precise shot. Ashley struggled for words to tell Saren, whipping the tears from her eyes. The next seconds seemed to go so slow for Saren. Ashley's head seemed to grow wide and spit apart. The little chunks of matter and tissue that was Ashley had been blown open as a singe gun round hammered through the sky like thunder. The small girl fell to the ground leaving Saren standing there, in the middle of the road, now alone and covered in the last remnants of her only true friend. "Noooo!" Gremlin hissed as he slumped over towards the cybernetic. He pounced on the robot's back and drove his tail into it, penetrating its shell and digging into the going organics within. With his remaining arm he grabbed the cybernetic by its two glass eyes and tore upwards to tear them out of its face. The robot clutched Gremlin and threw him over the edge, yet he managed to hang on with his arm and tail. The assassins footing began to slip as he tripped over the edge along with Gremlin. The fall was hard for both of them. Gremlin managed to land in a neatly stacked pile of used boxes and crates damaging his tail and right leg, although the robot was impaled on a fire hydrant. The lifeless robot attempted to pull himself off from the thing only to go dead moments later. Saren sobbed on the ground as Gremlin pricked up his head to see what had happened. Crawling over to the girl in such an amount of pain he looked at her. (DEAD)Purple Rain - Patrick Rain - The Don |

Oh well, I was actually moved as Ashely died. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! =( IC: The world darkened as Saren half supported, half carried Gremlin back to the Bottoms Up. The sky, sunny moments ago, was now threatening to tear loose and pour down the tears that Saren wished she could have. But, it wasnt a sadness Saren was experiencing... it was a terrible rage that drove her now. Gremlin gasped out loud as Saren set him down on a bench, at the train station. She sat down next to him, face whiter than her white skin, devoid of any emotion. She glanced to the lizard, wondering if even with his regenerative powers could he survive such a wound, yet wishing he would just die as she partially blamed him. The notifying board announced that the train would be coming shortly, and Saren noticed that Gremlin had long sinced passed out. Making sure the station was empty, her sobs cried out in the brightness of the station. The train arrived, and passengers quickly fled as Saren carried/dragged the lizard onboard. One brave attendant asked her to leave, which she replied with a severe beating. After that, they were not disturbed again. Watching the same Coke billboard that she had seen earlier, Saren suddenly began to hullucinate, watching the scene were she had first met Ashely, her... daughter... Nearly crumpling again, Saren stood up and began to pace the length of the train. ~ The Bottoms Up sign was dead, as Saren arrived. Realising she couldnt enter yet, she laid the unconcious form of Gremlin there and dropped the suitcase, informing the doorman to take care of them. He firmly takes hand of both, and Saren stands outside the door for a few moments before disappearing into the dark streets of the city. Some blocks away, a C dealer would be found dead, his skull crushed in, with all of his C missing. |

People were talking about this private eye, Maeror Hill. Could he the the killer? He had connections to these types of people. He would have no problem in arranging these sorts of setups. She barged through the crowed of people now bustling through the live city streets. People Saren didn't know. People Saren didn't care about. Just people. Gaining the account address of Maeror, she headed over to his apartment. It wasn't too hard really. Jack had sent her a message with his name and address on it after Saren had asked. The people on the list had become paranoid that he had gone into hiding after so long. Making her way up to his apartment, she grabbed a pistol off a drugged out gangster and beat him to death with the butt of it. 'Just people,' she thought. Saren knocked on his door. Maeror looked through his camera positioned by the door to see Saren. The door opened to Maeror holding his own gun at Saren. Saren looked down at her shirt. She didn't even notice the brown stains covering her. She began to wipe them out as a few dry tears were squeezed out of her eyes. "Ok, come in. I trust you." 'It's over,' she repeated in her head. 'It's over.' OOC: ...or is it? (DEAD)Purple Rain - Patrick Rain - The Don |

As he lay the phone down there was a knock at the door and he was informed that Gremlin was downstairs. Gremlin was carried as gently as possible to Ruben's office before being seated in a chair, a glass was placed beside him and Ruben poured some of his finest whiskey into it before sitting back down and waiting for Gremlin to stir... |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 722 Joined: 22 Mar 2008 | Lying in a filthy alley, Saren was hard to spot, as herself was filthy as well. She was dreaming, twitching as she was being accused by both the security guard and her daughter. "No... please, I didnt mean... I tried.... I TRIED!" she jolted awake, crying pathetically and slumped to her side. She held herself tightly, not caring anymore. She had no memory of the past few moments, all she remembered was a gunshot, and the spray it had made on the floor. Her hip vibrated, and Saren picked herself up from the hard ground and stood, reaching for her phone. It was Zalis, and as she connected the call Zalis began to ask her his question. Saren simply stared, then "What do you think!? Ashelys dead, the bounty hunter is dead, we have no lead... We may as well give up, I know I have..." she burst out. Zalis quickly began to apologise, she assumed, but she didnt wait for his response. She disconnected before he could trace her, and just to be sure she dropped her phone into a nearby water drain, and exited the dank, dirty alley way. Walking, Saren drew many a disgusted glance. Some even tried to mess with her, but they soon realised that blood was mized among the dirt of her shirt, so they turned elsewere for amusement. Idly walking, she didnt stop until she was in front of her apartment complex, which seemed to now be condemmed and had police tape across the entrance. This confused Saren, it had only been a few days since... she couldnt remember. Deciding that squatting in her apartment wasnt such a bad thing, as she came back to herself as both C and alcohol lost their affects on her. Staggering over the two abondoned police white chalk drawings, she entered her apartment. The door was little more than fragments, and the place had been looted... or searched. Evalulating her apartment, Saren found only some clothes, food, her hidden stash and her heavier furniture. Her computer, along with all of its information, was gone causing a feeling of relief for Saren. At least, they might not come back now. Deciding that cleaning herself up and getting some proper food would be wise, she cleaned herself up and made as best a meal as possible with the remaining food around the apartment. Sitting in the living room, Saren swirled her cup of water, and planned what to do. |

He was sitting opposite Ruben. His mind raced as he glanced down at his missing arm. Why was he here? Saren had survived, he'd killed the bounty hunter. He'd done his job... mostly. Well, we would see. He sighed, and reached for the glass of whiskey in front of him. He looked Ruben in the eyes. "Boss. Your daughter is fine. The bounty hunter and his mercenary friend are both dead." He glanced down. "Ashley didn't make it though. I'm sorry boss." |

More death and destruction. This was becoming a bit much. Now only ten people on the list were still alive, and so if the murderer was still out there, there was a good 10% chance that he would be coming after Bakerfield next. Bakerfield allowed himself a moment of anger, then forced his mind to calmness. He had faced difficult clients before, he reminded himself. This was nothing more than another difficult situation. Now if only he could convince himself of that. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 722 Joined: 22 Mar 2008 | Sitting in her apartments living room, Saren was trying to figure out what had happened last night. She couldnt remember a thing, from all that C she had done last night. All she could really remember was a gun shot, and the blood splatter... Saren shook her head violenty, and threw her empty glass into the wall. Standing there, Saren realised that she needed help. As she left her apartment, she was uncertain wether the Bottoms Up was the best place to be right now. Though she knew Gremlin had tried, along with Ruben and Zalis, she couldnt bear to face them yet. Not yet, not until she could stand to look at them. Stepping out the front of the apartment complex, a squad car and two police officers were waiting for Saren, pistols out and ready. "Dont make a move, you street rat. We're taking you in, so just be cooperative and this will be easy enough." ordered the closest officer. Realising that the murder scene would of course prompt the police to place sensors around the building, Saren considered running. However, she realised that doing so would more than likely kill her, due to her still damaged leg. So Saren offered no resistance as they led her to a car. Before she was forced inside the car, a needle like device was slid into her veins, taking a small sample of blood. A light buzzed, and a officer snorted. He roughly shoved Saren into the back seat, asking "Why even bother, these rats never go a minute without C. Your wasting your time with checking these low lifes Brad." ~ Being shaken awake, she attempted to blink her tiredness away as she was led through the police station. She was stopped in front of a oak desk, which a officer sat behind to judge her. She was convicted with the interference of a police murder scene, squatting, and the illegal use of C. The officer making these charges sighed at the latter, murmuring "Its always C charges now days..." as Saren was led off. All this time, she had been quiet and cooperative. Yet, as her status as a rat, she was roughly dragged and thrown into a cell. The bars closed behind her, and Saren nearly fell onto the hard floor. "You have one phone call, then tomorrow you will be sentenced. Better hope you dont end up in the Cryogenic Prison." laughed the guard, then he walked away. As the guard disappeared, low life scum were already hooting and cat calling, some even recognising her role as dancer from the Bottoms Up. At that, she simply sat down onto a hard lumpy bed, head cast down. Eventually glancing up, Saren noticed a back room. It looked like a prison infirmary, and this was confirmed as Saren noticed a prisoner lying down on a bench. Squinting, she was shocked to see Drake the drug addict. Originally she would have spit on someone like him, but examining herself she noticed that now she had several things in common with him as well. This lead to her balling herself up on the hard bed and trying to get some proper sleep. |

He done Ruben's job, Saren was ok. But he still felt the worst he had for years. He glanced down at his arm, or lack thereof. It was a fascinating process, he thought, but it would take a while for him to be at one hundred percent once more. He rested his chin on the bar, and looked as despondent as his scaled features would allow. |

Cybernet had nothing, the shattered remains of Deus that he could access had nothing, and Bakerfield had nothing. Not even the slightest indication of who the killer might be. All the obvious suspects were dead, killed in this macabre game of cat-and-mouse. Nothing connected, nothing made sense anymore. Bakerfield cursed, and jumped slightly as a tone sounded in his head. Phone call. He read the number scrolling across his vision. It seemed familiar. Shrug. Connect. "William Bakerfield, Cybernet Special Projects division, how may I help you?" Gremlin was exploring old apartments when his phone bleeped. He flicked it open and watched the video from Saren, a grimace on his features. When it was done, he watched it through again, then put the phone down. "A bomb-button, eh?" he muttered. "No dead-man'sss handle, unlikely it'ss wired into him or he'd have mentioned it. Well, maybe it is and he's more professional than I thought." he sighed, and lay down, regarding the ceiling. He sent another message to Saren, asking if the call could be traced, then his thoughts drifted off.
